This IS the best song for a montage on any hockey station..... especially CBC! This reminds me of the time Vladdy Konstantinov was wheeled onto the ice after the Wings' second cup..... magical, brings a tear to your eye!
You are absolutely 💯 right my man.Its hard being a wins fan these past few.Sad because they are a shell of the great unstoppable team the used to be.The hockey gods are no longer in Detroit.Yzerman is and I hope he can build it into a winning team.
I remember being a red wings fan my whole life.Sitting up watching the wings win their first Stanley Cup in 42 years.I grew up being a huge huge Yzerman fan and to watch him win his first was mind blowing.9 players from that wing team went on to be hall of famers.Have I thought about this song over the years but never found it.Never understood why but I did today.AWESOME ! Just awesome thanks :)
I've been looking for this song since the moment it aired on CBC I fucken SWEAR LIKE WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW I CANT BELIEVE I FOUND IT FINALLY. After watching my red wings win an watching right till HNIC signed off and it ended with this song and montage it almost brought a tear to my eye. THANK YOU.
This song was the opening theme to CBC Hockey Night in Canada for the playoffs; and was used for "ALL" teams NOT just the wings. Some det fan made this vid and just added the song as the background music. It was for ALL the teams in the playoffs.
@LOKISlog7 Dude you are right they used to use this theme, for the playoffs usually using it to start each round..but after the wings won the cup in 1998 they did indeed use this to close out the broadcast,, I know I still have it on VHS !!!!
The Wings are the definition of a modern day Dynasty. 4 Cups (soon to be 5) in11 years. Not bad at all. Next cup win will put them ahead of the leafs. Go Wings!!
ill give you the fact that Canada is passionate about hockey. I go to tournaments all the time in Canada, and half of them close the city so that everybody can see the games but im from Detroit and the Wings still beat up on everybody and they still win cups so you habe to respect it.
Actually, Yzerman won the cup again with the Wings. 2002 vs. the Carolina Hurricanes. I agree...Yzerman is a true legend. My two fav players growing up; Yzerman & Sakic
that is a difficult, as well as an interesting question. i think crosby has more leadership and maturity, while jagr was more explosive and gamebreaking, albeit inconsistent at times and his maturity/effort often were questioned. jagr could change speeds like no one i've ever seen and it threw off opponents regularly, while crosby doesn't take a shift off and his quickness/vision often leaves defenders looking around wondering what happened. jagr is prob a better goal scorer, crosby the plymaker
Five years??!! More like 15 years!! I can't imagine the Red Wings ever missing the playoffs! Anyways, this video was made after they won the cup in 1997...they hadn't won it in 54 years, up until then.
trust me, most level-headed pens fans have ceded to the fact that we were beaten by a better team. by the time we had some momentum, it was too late. even after we took game 5, you weathered the storm like great teams do. my aggravation comes from all the wings fans pointing to having triumphed over crosby conspiracies and booking their stanley cup parade plans already. i'm sure normal wings fans know all too well that its very difficult to come out of the west every year
@TUdaToken He's won more than Yzerman won when Yzerman was 22, sure, but not over the course of Yzerman's career. Yzerman also wasn't one of five straight top five picks, including two number one picks overall.
@PurpleNightButterfly actually no datsyuk is our crosby, and zetterberg is our malkin, they are key people for a team to win, u guys 2nd and 3rd liners got the job done in game 6 and 7, with players like fedentenko and talbot, that's what wins. Crosby should also learn to lead his team in the handshake after a huge victory like that if he's one of the best captains in the league
@PurpleNightButterfly datsyuk was drafted in the 5th round after being scouted from the other side of the earth. he never really had the opporunity to win the cup at 22
The first time, it looks like Anders Eriksson, Kris Draper and Marty Lapointe. Second time, it looks like Marty Lapointe, Igor Larionov and Brendan Shanahan.
@PurpleNightButterfly A player doesn't need to be a captain to be amazing. Datsyuk has multiple titles under his belt. He is more of a complete player all around.
precisely, "Though the flame burns bright, in an instant its gone" these players spend there lives shooting for the cup and if they are privilaged enough to get a chance at the cup it may never happen again look at 2008 Roenick has never one a Stanely Cup, he came close with the blackhawks but for him the chance has never come again.
Actually, I think it was Malkin waking up in the last pair of games...and can't forget Kennedy....KENNEDY!! So funny, how Mr. Kennedy in WWE was released, and THEN they started calling him like that.
I remember hoping the wings would win back in 97 (I think) when it was wings/flyers in the final, because I felt they deserved it, and had one coming for a few years back then but now I feel like canadian fans are in debt. It would mean so much to montreal if the habs won, or edmonton if the oilers won. If detroit wins again it doesn't really mean that much to their fans, just another notch in the bedpost. Edmonton and montreal fans burned down parts of their city in 94 and 06
@PurpleNightButterfly zetterberg and datsyuk's style of play is hugely different than crosby and malkin's. Z and Dats are two-way players go back to play more defense, if Crosby and Malkin became two-way players and they are still very good players when they defend, they wouldn't have these 100 point seasons all the time, they lack that great two-way play that Zetterberg and Datsyuk have
@PurpleNightButterfly i meant you and standingroomonlyband are arguing bout steve yzerman and sydney crosby juss shoot pucks at each other now u understand
well, I think it's a hockeytown. I mean, what's the name of the arena! The only thing that viewers might not understand is that the lack in ticket sales isn't because the city doesn't like hockey. It's just that the automobile market is going down, so detroit citizens rarely have enough money to attend games. And if you weren't watching, you wouldn't know how good a team and city it is. And um.... Go sharks!!!! Sorry man, I'm not from Detroit.
@PurpleNightButterfly look i and hopefully wings fans can accept that he's won more than yzerman already at 22 than him, but yzerman had a stronger sense of the game at 22 than crosby and ovechkin will ever have. The situation was pretty much the same too when it came to us being the Dead Wings and you guys almost leaving before the lockout but it's a lot easier to get high draft picks, trade and A LOT better scouting in the league today than what it was in the 80's and 90's
@PurpleNightButterfly Sure Crosby can score goals. Datsyuk can too and plays defense better than any other forward in the NHL. Season after season he leads the league in takeaways and wins the defensive forward cup. In my opinion Datsyuk is miles ahead of Crosby in talent.
ya but we still have the rest of the wings zetterburg, osszie, lidstorm and lots more. the attendace is down just cause of the economy but we still have the pistons w/ us to but the loins are long gone for now
haha, it's no secret why sports illustrated had the avs-wings as the best rivalry of the 90s. if only that would come back again, stuff like that is good for hockey. as a pens fan, its the flyers who get victories rubbed in their faces, philly boasts some of the biggest half-breed fans in sports
tickets can be sold out, not everybody shows up though, especially with a team like Detroit, they're expected to win every time they suit up, so whats the point in going to some people?
i never thought i would see the day the wings would raise the cup. my dad has said i am spoiled. im 29 and my dad is 56. his favorite "GORDIE" mine "FEDOROV" I will have my 1st child in november and hopefully he will play hockey....or her...LOL!!!But i know 1 of them will bleed RED! RED wINGS that is! CROSBY SUX
Almost everyone I hang out with and talk to watch hockey. It's hard times here in Detroit so selling out a major sports venue is harder than it looks. Last year and previous years it was pretty much sold out all the time. Since you don't live here, you don't get to see the general public and their interest in sports teams. So for you to say that Detroit is not a hockeytown is just an uneducated statement.
as a pens fan i respect the red wings, especially after the final. what made it bitter was how we breezed through the east only to get stonewalled by what seemed to be a near-flawless team defense. your management has adjusted to the post-lockout well.what i think you should take from history is how often the wings are favored to win. you've won 4 in the last 11, but you should have won probably 8 or 9. as wings fan, i assume you know how difficult it is to come out of the west year after year.
yes the red wings lost it this year to a good pitt team with yes a cry baby crosby but still congrads to them, the wings are still the best team in hockey in the last 13 years easy, they still have won more cups than any other usa team and they will be there next season competeing for another one like they do every year, and there streak of consective years making the playoffs is the longest in the history of any majiorsport out there
yea you feel bad for guys like that, to me personally I think Sundin has it the worst, he played what? 17 seasons in Toronto as the captain and the go-to-guy and they never got anywhere, and now unless Vancouver somehow wins the cup which I just dont see happening he probably never will. At least he has an Olympic gold to hang onto.
ok first of all then how come i kept on seeing empty seats at the joe louis arena????and what the hell are you talkin about cant even sell out a fukin team? to let you know 6 of the top 7 teams in ticket revenue are canadian
I don't think the swearing was necessary...we're online, what good will those words do?? Anyhow, I say we're gonna see a Caps-Sens East Final and the winner will defeat either the Sharks or Canucks for the Cup.
While I don't doubt that is true that a fan made the vid and added the music, were you watching in 1998, the playoff that the vid covers?? Because I have seen CBC do a wrap-up version for a specific team, the Cup winners, after it's over, only it was shorter and didn't include the middle part. Perhaps it's possible that it did air. I don't remember that far back to say yes or no. And they used the theme for more than 3 yrs, I seem to remember it last playing in 2003.
Really why do Californians laugh at Canada so much??? They were super nice to me while I was there....then again I'm really good looking ....(joking yet, bit of truth)
All the good players are being bought out? Have you ever heard of a salary cap? And no, most of the best players are Russian these days. And this is coming from a native Swede whose favorite team is predominantly Swedish (wings).
This IS the best song for a montage on any hockey station..... especially CBC! This reminds me of the time Vladdy Konstantinov was wheeled onto the ice after the Wings' second cup..... magical, brings a tear to your eye!
The 90's were a great time to be a Wings fan. You felt the highs, and the lows.
And through it all was Steve Yzerman.
You are absolutely 💯 right my man.Its hard being a wins fan these past few.Sad because they are a shell of the great unstoppable team the used to be.The hockey gods are no longer in Detroit.Yzerman is and I hope he can build it into a winning team.
I’m a 2009 kid but I wish I can live in the 90s and witness what we have won 😢

Dude I have been looking for this song after the wings win the cup in 97.Its played right at the win.Awesome song!!!
No matter how far Detroit goes under the wings will always be there and so will the fans.
BRING THIS BACK 2024
The song is "The Chance May Never Come Again", and I believe it was recorded by one singer for CBC's use.
What a time in Michigan sports. 2 cups with a UM NC sandwiched in between. My favorite time of my life as a Detroit/MI sports fan.
Yzerman and Woodson... 2 icons!
that song is so awesome. i can't find a good copy of it anywhere though =(
"its a good thing your an octopus because now you can juggle two Stanley Cups" - Ron McLean - best quote ever
This song is so true. Grab it when the chance comes because it may never come again. I'm grabbing every chance I see from now on.
Well said Husker. I thank the lord my Red Wings have been graced with people who think just like you said.
What A Good Video
Dang I Miss Sergei Fedorov alot and Steve Yzerman!
and here they go again back to the cup
Go Wings Go!!

This would be good if it was played during any sports playoff game.
I personally love Canadas anthem. Especially the guy who sings it all the time in Ottawa. I am from Pittsburgh

You can't skate on a bad ankle without risk. It was a smart move by Babcock with the wings up 2 games.
@PurpleNightButterfly actually no datsyuk is our crosby, and zetterberg is our malkin, they are key people for a team to win, u guys 2nd and 3rd liners got the job done in game 6 and 7, with players like fedentenko and talbot, that's what wins. @PurpleNightButterfly
I am completely clueless as to why people constantly trash Crosby!
Who were the players when the singer said heroes carve their name, legends leave their mark???
The first time, it looks like Anders Eriksson, Kris Draper and Marty Lapointe. Second time, it looks like Marty Lapointe, Igor Larionov and Brendan Shanahan.
exactly as the title states... THE CHANCE, just cbc song... pretty impressive isn't it?
