About regiment 588 of the russian army in ww2, a group of FEMALE bomber pilots.
Female-ONLY unit of pilots, navigators, mechanics, suppliers and so on.
and they flew old wooden bombers from WWI, often going out onto the wings to make repairs DURING flight. On attack runs, they turned off their engines and glided in so they would truly catch the germans by surprise. Thats why they were nicknamed the Night Witches
They show Lydia Litvyak in the clip - the pretty blonde - she was in the 586th Fighter Regiment!

The way I had it explained to me was like this: they turned the engines off and glided towards the target and the canvas covering the wings of their planes made a particularly disturbing sound as they glided through the air that somehow reminded the Germans of a which's broom flying through the air. The German's would hear them coming but they didn't know from exactly what direction and they would bomb them and disappear into the night without a trace. As if by some dark magic. That's why they, in addition to being female I guess, earned the nickname The Night Witches or Nachthexen from the Germans.

And Heath? If you want a song that will amp you in the gym, I highly recommend "Sparta" by Sabaton. Every time I hear that song, I want to grab a spear, shield, go to the Hot Gates, and "slaughter Persians!"

I once read a story about why Sabaton sing about war: Joakim and Pär were watching Saving Private Ryan and when they saw the Normandy scene they thought: "this is what we want to do" :). or something like that :)
This particular video is produced by Wargaming, the developers of World of Tanks. Sabaton partnered with them to create this and the Bismark music video. The tank they are in is called 'Primo Victoria" and you can purchase it and play in game withe the crew of Sabaton haha :). You should check out Van Canto's version of this song. They do metal acapella and cover this song with Joakim. My current favorite from Sabaton is Attack of the Deadmen from their new album. That was has a whole different feel and I highly recommend it.

As much as I love this song, I despise this video. It has nothing to do with the events they sing about (D-Day) and the sound mixing is terrible, you can't hear much of the song. The video with the Saving Private Ryan footage would have been a much better call. They just did this one with Wargaming as a promo for World of tanks...

The Red Baron is a great song by Sabaton. Shiroyama is another great song that I enjoy. The first song I heard by Sabaton was the Last Stand, which is another great song.
There is a version of this one with scenes from saving private ryan on the background, that one is insane. The official music video has too much random noise and less impactful visuals.

I can never decide if this one or Panzerkamf is my favourite of Sabaton's many awesome songs. You should also check out the amazing cover Van Canto did of this with guest appearance/vocals from Sabaton's singer.
Like the song 'Bismark' this video was created as an advert for Wargaming's World of Tanks game (World of Warships for Bismark) where they actually made a tank just like the one in the vid with the band as the crew (and voice acting for the commander provided by the singer.) The song is much older, beu it got this video for the Wargaming promo.

Have you seen any of Gloryhammer's latest stuff? They do scottish fantasy metal and so far at least have maintained a consistent storyline with their albums (they have 3 out at this point: Tales of the Kingdom of Fife, Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards, and Legends of the Galactic Terrorvortex). Questlords of Inverness, Hootsforce, Gloryhammer, and Land of Unicorns are amazing songs and the second and third are fun music videos.

I LOVE this song, but I HATE this video. I get that they teamed up with the World of Tanks people to make it, but the tank sounds completely drown out the music, and it's the music we came for. Such a shame, 'cause this song is great.
