  • It's a battle of the mid-rangers as we review both the Google Pixel 6a and the Nothing Phone (1), and in the process pit these two similarly priced phones up against one another.
The Pixel 6a was announced a whole two months ago but we finally have the phone as pre-orders start, and Henry is ready to explain why he thinks this is the new best mid-ranger on the market after two weeks of putting it through its paces.
Dom has in turn been testing out the Nothing Phone (1), which sits at the same price but looks very different, and balances its specs in whole other way. Does it survive its own hype campaign, and can it unthrone the Pixel 6a - not to mention the OnePlus Nord 2T, iPhone SE, and Samsung Galaxy A53, all at about the same price.
Finally, Samsung has confirmed its next Galaxy Unpacked event in August. We run through everything we're expecting to see on the day, including the Flip 4, Fold 4, Watch 5, and Buds 2 Pro.

Seriously not happy with the battery life on pixel 6 series. The tensor chip optimization isn't simply working at all for Google. They should have stuck with snapdragon😅,the battery life on the 5a was amazing😍.Btw great podcast guys-loved it.

I had the Pixel 6a for 4 days, I wanted a smaller compact phone than the monolithic 6.7 inchers I have (Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Fold 3), but alas the 6a was a "bridge too far". I liked the compact lightweight design, camera, sound quality, I was not bothered about the 60Hz screen rating. My gripes (but liveable) were the battery life / battery recharge time, the finger print sensor was a tad hit and miss (despite adjusting the sensitivity, but I now know that it is slower to respond compared to a 6 or 6 Pro), but overall the 6.1 inch screen was just too small for me.
So despite the gripes I returned it and got the Nothing phone (1) and I'm extremely pleased, so far zero gripes, zero issues. 😀📱

Yeah, they're both really solid options at this price. Between the two, think it would mostly come down to which design you prefer, and whether you'd rather 6a's camera or Nothing's charging - Dom
