- We just gave an overview of the trailers from Ultratec, and today we're testing their newest trailer, the Flatbed Trailer. We're moving some large rocks and a pile of 3" stone. We'll see how it does in general, and we'll kind of compare it to last year moving the same 3" stone with the Tandem Axle Earth Moving Trailer. Assisting us in the process of picking up the large stones is Precision Manufacturing's Add-A-Grapple on our Summit TX25.

“Some of you out there know it all anyway”😂😂 truer words have never been spoken
Your luck runs like mine. Things don’t always go as planned. Thanks for another great video.
Hehe, things all worked out in the end. Thanks for watching!
You, me, and Wile E. Coyote, me thinks!😂😂😂😂
That Add-a-Grapple works nice with those stones. I’d like to see it working branches and brush. Thanks for the video! Stay Safe Folks!!!
This is the things my daddy told me you don't learn in school but you will not forget and you have to laugh at yourself and move on great video good luck and you didn't break the trailer
Haha, yeah I consider it a good day!
Huge fan of your videos! Just want to suggest the way that suspension on the trailer worked at the 11 min mark makes me think you have the wrong hitch setup!
Put a pintle mount on your receiver on the tractor and a ring on the trailer. Then you can lift your 3-point to dump the load! Get an adjustable pintle setup so at the 3-point’s lowest practical height the trailer is level so you can get as much dump height as possible.
You were breaking your back when your setup is so close to being able to do most of the work for you.
I really appreciate your videos. Very practical with good and necessary information.
thanks Ray, I appreciate it!
I appreciate all you do to help educate people like me. I've learned alot from what you've shown.
Very good video! Greetings from Finland
Hey, thanks for stopping by. Love your trailers :)

We have an Atwoods now in my town and the moment I saw the Summit I wanted one. I UA-camd it and have watched several videos on how it preforms. I think I would love one. Now it's just a matter of affording one.
I m liking the trailer and the stump remover you showed in one of your other videos also
Years ago an employee at a local quarry told me a 5 yard bucket of common gravel weighs ~ 3500 lbs. A friend of mine loaded one bucket in his Ford pickup. He broke the springs and blew out both rear tires on the spot. He did not weigh the material, of course, but the message was don't do anything that stupid.
Lol good call
More like 2200 lbs a yard.
He was way off. Wonder if he meant 3.5 tons
@@stuartrinker I remember it as I wrote it. At that that time I had to hand shovel another 5 yard pile of gravel. It took a few days. I can personally swear that it is heavy.
@@stuartrinker Yeah, wet gravel weighs 1.5-2 tons/yard. So 5 yards could be 15,000-20,000 lbs.
Courtney, I had a good chuckle watching this. This has been 75% or more of what I use my 2025r for, moving rocks! That grapple attachment looks very handy, and the trailer very sturdy. Yet, just like for me, it eventually comes down to getting your hands in there and moving those rocks.😂
I might suggest, for what it's worth, with the sight limitations of a solid bucket, it might be best to remove or fold down one side of the trailer so the boulders have lest distance to fall and possibly bounce or damage the bed.
Thanks for the video!
Haha, yep sometimes there's no avoiding the dirty work! :)
For those rocks.. spray / trim an area - land fabric. Add 2" or so of mulch, and set the large white rocks on it. Would look really good, I did it to the entry of my driveway. Zero maintenance, just add a little bit of mulch every year to freshen it up.
Did give that a thought as well, but I want this whole area to be wildflowers next year, so likely would just get drowned out by those anyways.
I don't know if you follow One Eye Customs ("Neighbor Doug" from Hometown Acres), but he made a couple of mods to his Ultratec. The most significant one was a safety latch for the dump lever. Apparently it's not too hard to knock the lever if you're stepping over tow bar, and if there's nothing in the trailer, when the bed lifts up on the shocks, it can cause some serious injury. Even more if the assist handle is extended. It would be nice if Ultratec added something like that to the production models.
Hmm, interesting. I'll have to take a look. I haven't had that happen or even come close to happening myself. I can see how it's a possibility though.
I use the Ultratec all the time in my forestry and firewood business, I have never even come close to accidentally releasing the dump lever.
The bolt-on grapple is a great idea. Maybe you could add a couple of short bolt-on forks to the bottom of the loader to help get under brush or logs. Similar to the add a grapple pallet forks but shorter and bolted to the loader bucket.
Yeah, maybe so...wasn't too bad with the current setup though. Thanks for watching!
"A learning curve, with just about everything we do" 👍 The 'Add a Grapple' seems like a great, less expensive way to go. Would a Toothbar get in the way? Edit
Hehe, never stop learning! I don't think a toothbar would hurt, likely would help!
I know most of us don’t have the luxury of two tractors, but if you got them, use them. Summit loading, 2038R pulling the trailer. Heck, you can let Chris drive and you can be the videographer.
Didn’t do that on purpose for that very reason. Shoot, I’d just use my skid steer, big Kubota, or JCB loader for all this type of thing if I was really looking to get work done fast. Trying to show how it goes in the real world for most of you with one compact tractor.
@@GoodWorksTractors I hear ya. I’m the one tractor guy and would’ve had the trailer hooked to my Ranger. Plus the tongue of the trailer and the back of the Ranger up in the air would get you more views. 🤣😂
Is the tongue of the trailer bent or is it an illusion because of the swivel function?
Just the swivel function, so has a little bit of play in it because of that
I wonder how much weight was there with those big boulders. Really cool video showing what you're up to at the property, and the products of course!
I don't know, but they were stout!
I have one trailer that the manufacturer claims to be rated at 2000 pound capacity. It has a 2000 pound axle. But loading it up, I blew out one tire bc....the tires, upon close examination, are only rated for 750 pounds. Single axle....so not 2000 pounds, it's 1500 pounds and anything close to that, you risk blowing the tires.
@@northdakotaham1752 Ultratec? Which model?
@@MetsaMachines nothing that came from GWT. Just a general comment about trailers in general. The weakest part might be the tires.
@@northdakotaham1752 Understood, that makes sense.
The hydraulic dump piston should in the front of trailer preferably double pistons so lift by pushing straight up possible hinged so they can angel slightly as bed reaches it full potential scissor lifts suck and easy to over load capacity to lift
Like to get your advice on a tractor. Which model, size for 50 acres wooded, heavy brush, mixed timber, forested land with sloped terrain.
What are the comparable tractors in the other brands? Kubota, Deere, Yanmar, kioti?
That last load is why I'm nervous every time someone loads without being connected to something yikes.
I'm thinking of getting the Summit tractor. What is the exact add on grapple you showed using?
here’s the listing for it: www.goodworkstractors.com/product/precision-mfg-add-a-grapple/
Do they make a backhoe for the summit?
check out Summit's UA-cam channel. They have a video featuring it...either out now or coming soon
It looks like that the trailer hitch is loose.
I'm just laughing when the trailer tipped and you spend more time trying to re-distribute some gravel with the tractor rather than hopping up there with a shovel and scraping a few rocks forward... Something I would do.
Would have taken me longer to go get a shovel and come back vs doing what I did. Two minutes with the loader bucket. So, it would have taken me more time to do what you did :)
