Kronos gave it his best effort ok 😂 Gotta put some safety disclaimers here as usual because i know some people worry a lot about what goes on behind the scenes in animal videos, so this is just to ease those concerns: He was not too stressed at any point in this video. He was NERVOUS at first as it was a new environment. But I carefully watched his breathing and mannerisms throughout the video. When a monitor is stressed or upset they will puff up and become extremely defensive. I would not be able to even film him, he would be extremely visibly angry. Also keep in mind he ate outside, which means he had to be comfortable and not stressed! Just wanted to make sure I made it clear that even though I make commentary that made the video more humorous, that I was not actually “annoyed” at him at all and let everything happen at his own pace. Editing took so long cause I just sat there and let him do everything his own pace and it was over a much longer period of time than this video was edited down to. Last disclaimer: this is after a year of working excessively with my monitor. Monitors are very powerful lizards and can severely harm younger children and people who haven’t learned how to handle them. I was fortunate in having a lot of people help me when I first got him and spent a LOT of my time taming him down. Just because he came off as cute and sweet in this video does not mean all monitors naturally are that way. This is after a lot of work with him. And there still are days I can’t handle him if he isn’t in the mood. They can severely hurt you and I find it best to warn y’all about that so I don’t “encourage” someone to get a monitor without knowing this. Anyways I love you guys!! So much. Isn’t it crazy that at this time she was using heroin frequently like everyday. Some people are really good at hiding their addiction and that makes it worse
gotta work for the money to pay for the drugs so gotta try to hide it the best ya can to do stuff like work and whatnot .. I'm a recovering addict myself and I could definitely see the signs still from her but I didn't want to say anything because she didnt address it so I didn't want to come off like I was making assumptions . Glad she is getting the help she needs. Praying for her.

yep, shot up right after filming and right before. tried really hard to act upbeat to mask it. you truly never know who's silently struggling. i wore wigs so much bc i never showered or cleaned my hair lol.

Yes! I bought cat bed when i moved but they had chosen boxes from move... So i kept one in room just for them. Its kinda in the way but they love it =D

Allow your cats out in the atrium. They would LOVE it. They can't escape and it's very safe for them. If I had a atrium, I'd allow my 5 cats out there.

When Roughnecks are scared, and they can't run, for some reason(temps?) Then their next move is to hold very still. And at that size, the cat will inflict far more damage than the lizard will, especially as cold as it is....monitors recognize cats as danger until they hit 4-4.5 feet and even then they much like them. As for your atrium, put a bunch of big plants in there, and then set up a couple high temp basking spots

For those of you who don’t know what’s going on and are commenting about where Taylor went I assume you don’t follow her other socials but she’s getting in-patient care for her addiction and has been clean for awhile now, she broke up with Jonny and got a restraining order against him (he was the one shooting her up which is private and I won’t say more but my heart hurts for Taylor and that situation) and she also moved towns, she rehomed a lot of her animals and only has around 24 now which she is taking great care of. I think for how hard people are on her she is taking amazing steps to get to a better place and the fact that she came back from all the Internet hate and an addiction is incredible and some of these nasty people online owe her apology for real. She’s human and I think she’s doing amazing recently. Just thought I’d update those who don’t know.
How about not getting a bird because she already had 50+ animals that she doesn't know how to care, and birds require much more attention than some of the pets she has already.

This monitor is not being "boring" or "dumb" - it's petrified and stressed. It should be mentioned that exposure to a new environment should be done very gradually, in a systematic fashion. Starting with 10 minutes sessions over the course of at least a week. Animals don't react well to change, so it should be made in the least stressful way possible. Feeding is a positive association but should be done calmly with the reaction of the animal in mind. No dangling food in the monitors face/putting it on it's head.
Naomi Grant a petrified monitor fights back, and at least puffs up. He has no signs of the words you are using. And I know he isn’t being dumb - it was a joke. I stated this in my pinned comment. He could’ve refused the food, eating means he was ok. Also, he swam, walked around, came inside fine, etc. he never once even let off a hiss. A monitor will fight back if they are scared, they aren’t like smaller lizards who freeze. He has been outside before, at my old apartment I took him on walks multiple times every couple of weeks for a year. (1-2 times per 2 weeks I mean). If this was his first time outside ever I would’ve treated it differently
Naomi Grant Sadly you are a stating a rather emotive opinion when it comes to monitors and goannas. We have them wild on the property where we live, we encounter them daily and know their behaviour intimately. My family and I saw no distress at all, maybe a little shyness because he was alert for threats and being cautious. Stressed monitors puff and panic ; their main mode is to flee, they dont freeze, play dead or go into passive shock, which you have assumed because of its calm behaviour. If it had run blindly into the windows or puffed and tail curled with an open mouth then yes, you'd have basis for your opinion ( which seems to be based on mammalian behaviour) Stressed monitors certainly don't eat, swim, bask or wander about with a dead mouse on their head. Please research different species behaviour, maybe get an experts opinion before commenting your misinformation as others may try to emulate it and cause untold grief to their pets.
Taylor, I say this out of true concern, not ill intent. That atrium is not safe for your reptiles. Texas has so many aerial predators (eagles, hawks, falcons, even owls) that could easily swoop down and take something. I know you have that fake owl but that could actually do more harm than good; predators see the owl and want to "show it who's boss". I know you might think that they're protected, but I've seen hawks swoop down and take snakes five feet in front of me. Coopers hawks, Red-Tailed hawks, Golden Eagles, and Red-shouldered hawks are all birds you HAVE to look out for. They'll come down in an instant. I'd especially keep a look out during winter, when it's a bit harder for the raptors to find prey, so they get more desperate. Another notable time would be june-august, when young birds born this year are old enough to find prey on their own. They don't know what they're doing, so they'll get gutsy and might try things they normally wouldn't. Also, during hawk migration (november), Texas gets loads of broad-winged hawks. If I recall correctly, peak flock count was over 80k. You might want to keep an eye on EBird for hawk, eagle, and falcon sightings just for an idea? I just want what's best for your animals, and it would just be so awful to have to watch one carried away before your eyes. ebird.org/region/US-TX-029?yr=all . There is a way to set it up so you get an email when certain species are reported.
Yeah, I was slightly concerned about this as well. If she’s watching, it isn’t really an issue, but the thought of her leaving Kronos out while she charged her camera and having some sort of predatory bird swoop in definitely crossed my mind. That said, I don’t know anywhere near enough about the subject to do more than voice my concerns, and I’m sure she’s already thought this through. I’m a worry wart when it comes to animals.

Hey Taylor here's a bit of incite to your monitors behaviour, I've broken it down. 1) Kronos encounters new territory. 2) Territory has water, sun, space and basking spots. 3) Suitable territory for a rough necked monitor. 4) Kronos goes on high alert, becomes cautious because.... 5) Territory may already be taken by bigger established monitor as it's a good area! 6) Move with caution and check for signs of other monitors (as a sub adult he'd definitely come off worse in a territorial dispute) 7) Enough exploration, back to familiar territory. 8) You, youself are also familiar territory, hence climbing on arm, back etc. 9) Back to enclosure. Kronos is being cautious not because of fear of a new place but because of an instinctual threat of other bigger monitors . Until he learns this is his territory he will always be on high alert and curtail his curiosity ( even though he's probably dying to explore and wander!) This is what they do in the wild, until they are an adult and can defend themselves they are very secretive and cautious. Usually they have a retreat and spend most their time close to it with occasional forays for food. We have many goannas around our property but have yet to see a juvenile and the rare sub adults I've glimpsed have acted similar to Kronos, quiet, slow and cautious. If he was a full adult, he would have given the atrium a good explore. With repeated exposure to the atrium he'll soon associate the area as his territory and his alone with no other monitors. He'll really start to enjoy the area!

It’s amazing how despite everything you where going through, you still did everything you could for your pets, to feed them, love them, and take care of them. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for you, but I’m proud of you for what you’ve accomplished and I’m sure many many people are ❤️

For those of you who don’t know what’s going on and are commenting about where Taylor went I assume you don’t follow her other socials but she’s getting in-patient care for her addiction and has been clean for awhile now, she broke up with Jonny and got a restraining order against him (he was the one shooting her up which is private and I won’t say more but my heart hurts for Taylor and that situation) and she also moved towns, she rehomed a lot of her animals and only has around 24 now which she is taking great care of.
I think for how hard people are on her she is taking amazing steps to get to a better place and the fact that she came back from all the Internet hate and an addiction is incredible and some of these nasty people online owe her apology for real. She’s human and I think she’s doing amazing recently.
Just thought I’d update those who don’t know.

This monitor is not being "boring" or "dumb" - it's petrified and stressed. It should be mentioned that exposure to a new environment should be done very gradually, in a systematic fashion. Starting with 10 minutes sessions over the course of at least a week. Animals don't react well to change, so it should be made in the least stressful way possible. Feeding is a positive association but should be done calmly with the reaction of the animal in mind. No dangling food in the monitors face/putting it on it's head.
Naomi Grant a petrified monitor fights back, and at least puffs up. He has no signs of the words you are using. And I know he isn’t being dumb - it was a joke. I stated this in my pinned comment. He could’ve refused the food, eating means he was ok. Also, he swam, walked around, came inside fine, etc. he never once even let off a hiss. A monitor will fight back if they are scared, they aren’t like smaller lizards who freeze. He has been outside before, at my old apartment I took him on walks multiple times every couple of weeks for a year. (1-2 times per 2 weeks I mean). If this was his first time outside ever I would’ve treated it differently
Naomi Grant Sadly you are a stating a rather emotive opinion when it comes to monitors and goannas.
We have them wild on the property where we live, we encounter them daily and know their behaviour intimately.
My family and I saw no distress at all, maybe a little shyness because he was alert for threats and being cautious.
Stressed monitors puff and panic ; their main mode is to flee, they dont freeze, play dead or go into passive shock, which you have assumed because of its calm behaviour.
If it had run blindly into the windows or puffed and tail curled with an open mouth then yes, you'd have basis for your opinion ( which seems to be based on mammalian behaviour)
Stressed monitors certainly don't eat, swim, bask or wander about with a dead mouse on their head.
Please research different species behaviour, maybe get an experts opinion before commenting your misinformation as others may try to emulate it and cause untold grief to their pets.

Taylor, I say this out of true concern, not ill intent. That atrium is not safe for your reptiles. Texas has so many aerial predators (eagles, hawks, falcons, even owls) that could easily swoop down and take something. I know you have that fake owl but that could actually do more harm than good; predators see the owl and want to "show it who's boss". I know you might think that they're protected, but I've seen hawks swoop down and take snakes five feet in front of me. Coopers hawks, Red-Tailed hawks, Golden Eagles, and Red-shouldered hawks are all birds you HAVE to look out for. They'll come down in an instant. I'd especially keep a look out during winter, when it's a bit harder for the raptors to find prey, so they get more desperate. Another notable time would be june-august, when young birds born this year are old enough to find prey on their own. They don't know what they're doing, so they'll get gutsy and might try things they normally wouldn't. Also, during hawk migration (november), Texas gets loads of broad-winged hawks. If I recall correctly, peak flock count was over 80k. You might want to keep an eye on EBird for hawk, eagle, and falcon sightings just for an idea? I just want what's best for your animals, and it would just be so awful to have to watch one carried away before your eyes. ebird.org/region/US-TX-029?yr=all . There is a way to set it up so you get an email when certain species are reported.

I live in California and there's a huge coyote issue along with aerial predators taking dogs and cats..... So I should never get an animal?

Yeah, I was slightly concerned about this as well. If she’s watching, it isn’t really an issue, but the thought of her leaving Kronos out while she charged her camera and having some sort of predatory bird swoop in definitely crossed my mind.
That said, I don’t know anywhere near enough about the subject to do more than voice my concerns, and I’m sure she’s already thought this through. I’m a worry wart when it comes to animals.

Hey Taylor here's a bit of incite to your monitors behaviour, I've broken it down.
1) Kronos encounters new territory.
2) Territory has water, sun, space and basking spots.
3) Suitable territory for a rough necked monitor.
4) Kronos goes on high alert, becomes cautious because....
5) Territory may already be taken by bigger established monitor as it's a good area!
6) Move with caution and check for signs of other monitors (as a sub adult he'd definitely come off worse in a territorial dispute)
7) Enough exploration, back to familiar territory.
8) You, youself are also familiar territory, hence climbing on arm, back etc.
9) Back to enclosure.
Kronos is being cautious not because of fear of a new place but because of an instinctual threat of other bigger monitors . Until he learns this is his territory he will always be on high alert and curtail his curiosity ( even though he's probably dying to explore and wander!)
This is what they do in the wild, until they are an adult and can defend themselves they are very secretive and cautious. Usually they have a retreat and spend most their time close to it with occasional forays for food.
We have many goannas around our property but have yet to see a juvenile and the rare sub adults I've glimpsed have acted similar to Kronos, quiet, slow and cautious.
If he was a full adult, he would have given the atrium a good explore.
With repeated exposure to the atrium he'll soon associate the area as his territory and his alone with no other monitors. He'll really start to enjoy the area!
