  • If you also get layers for curly hair, you may want to consider not doing as many layers if your hair is fine and low density like mine. I stopped getting layers in my curly hair and it looks much better! Watch the video to learn why and find out how it changed my curls.

    Yes. Finally someone who gets it. Thank you so much. I have the same hair type as yours.

    This will be helpful for a lot of viewers. I also have hair that's a lot like yours and recently discovered that the worst thing I can do, especially for the back view, is have layers cut into my hair. I'm now trying to grow out my layers -- I had them cut in for the first time almost a year ago, and it was such a mistake. I also need a few face framing pieces like you have, but I'm not going to get any others. I'm hoping that in another year my hair starts looking better at the bottom.

    You saved me! I have low density curls too and i was about to get a layered haircut, because i wanted to do something else with my hair. I wasn't fully convinced though that it would work on me. Thanks to you i know for certain that i don't want a layered haircut. I think seeing this video at this particular time was meant to be. Bless you 🙏

      You could always try it at some point and see if it works or not. Juts a few layers. Then you can do a blunt cut after if you don't love it.

    I have the same fine hair with the same curl pattern. However I have high density hair. It's kinda ridiculous. I also prefer the blunt cut. If I get layers it's just strange looking. It doesn't lay right and looks soo much less dense.

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  5 днів тому

      Maybe fine hair also has this issue regardless of the density? Some other comments are making it seem that way.

  • @simplycurlyde
    @simplycurlyde 5 днів тому +4

    Yeah, I think layers are out now. I see so many curlies not getting their hair layered, especially those with low density hair. Mine is on the thick side & I just do very little layers too.

    I've only had layers in my hair once and never again. I also prefer a one length haircut.

  • @paulawalsh4979

    I too avoid layers. I actually have medium density, but my individual hairs are really fine, so layers just make me look like I have a lot less hair.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I keep pondering this, and yet my stylist (who has curly hair) keeps telling me I need the layers. You just confirmed my thoughts.

      Yeah, you can always try and if it's not better, cut the layers. The good thing is cuts aren't permanent 😊

    Yep blunt cut works for me too, got a layered bob and it looks complete different to my blunt cut bob a few years back. Looked fuller and more. Curls.

    Thank you for this video Delilah! I have low porosity, low-medium density hair but wavy (2A-B) and think that this must also apply to wavy hair too. My hair is slighty layered and I've noticed now that it's grown out it's stringy looking at the bottom where it's longer so I think I will ask for a blunt cut with only face framing layers next time I get a cut.

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  5 днів тому +1

      Yeah wavy hair is included for sure. It still clumps like curly so I imagine it would have the same effect.

    This! Thank you! Enough with the layers for me. And oils. I've seen layers and oils do beautiful things for some curlies, but they are a definite no for me. Nevermind triangle head. Layers give me diamond head. Flat on top, poofy sides, and thin almost non-existent ends. I lose my ringlets and piecey flippy bits take their place. I'm 5 months post-chop and I'm finally getting my ringlets back. The only good thing from this cut is that it gave my hair a nice reset. It's growing back in so healthy and nice. Lesson learned. All one length is the way to go for me.
    Thank you for your videos! Always such useful and informative content.

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  2 дні тому +1

      Yeah, oils don't do my hair any favors either. And why didn't I think of saying diamond head?! Perfect analogy!

    You are so right! Great video! My hair is similar to your hair. I have fine curly/wavy hair and get a blunt hair cut. I had hair disasters in the past with layered hair cuts.

  • @DanteVelasquez
    @DanteVelasquez 2 дні тому +1

    That's because your layers were too spaced out before. There are many ways of layering hair and it should always be based on the individual's hair type (density/deneer/texture). I don't have low-density hair but I always want my layers longer with more weight at the bottom because I prefer how it looks and feels. I still layer the face frame and the rest though, just longer so that it appears fuller. Stylists are supposed to take this into account when they consult with someone, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. Having pictures of your desired result helps with this. Either way one should always choose to do what they want and not feel restricted by "rules" as you chose to do. Your hair is gorgeous 🙂

    I had blunt bob for years when I was straightening my hair. I tried the whole layers, round cut thingy the I started my curly journey about a year ago, and it doesn't grow out well plus the top layers shrink so much more than the rest of my hair. I'm currently growing the top layers and keeping the rest in a blunt bob until everything is one length and I can let my hair grow for the first time in over 10 years.

    It seems to mess up my wave patten for a while .... I just ask for a dusting anymore. The last time I got it cut on the top as recommended by a stylist to get volume did that but also pouffed out strangely on the sides . so no...

      Thinning shears & slicing are not for waves & curls. They're just hacking up them up.

    Delilah, my hair is a lot like yours. Only shorter and it's silver which contributes to the fineness of it.. at what point... Because I'm growing my hair.. should I stop getting layers?

      Probably around shoulder length, maybe even a tad shorter, is when I would test it out.

    Great video! Can you do a 360 of your haircut and say what you ask for when you go to the salon? Sorry if it's confusing, English is my second language and I'm still learning

  • @freedomthroughspirit

    My hair sounds like yours and I'm very curious to try this. I've been giving myself the butterfly cut bc I can do it easily at home whenever I like so maybe next time I'll just cut it myself only trimming the front layers (and blunt cut the rest). I'm skeptical it will work bc my curls are wimpy and fall at the slightest breeze so more weight usually equals fewer curls but perhaps with product it will be fine. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for this video and your others too. I have these exact problems and wrecked my cut with layers too many times because so many “experts” say that a curly cut “layered” was what I should do to get fullness and better curls. This just doesn’t work for me with baby fine, thin hair. I do a lot of what you do but always felt like I was going against the grain of the curly girls. Which do you do more often, use the bounce-curl brush or clump by hand?

  • @claudiamelvin9423

    • @HolisticEnchilada

      Yes, I tried to pick pictures with a mix of light and dark tops for both with and without layers to help illustrate this.

  • @Dogandcatmom51

    I have short curly layered hair and was trying to grow out the layers so has a stylist cut only the back bottom a few times . Then my hair was jutting out in the back of my head too much because I had only very long layers compared to the overall length and a short overall length. So it seems like my hair has to be layered when it’s short at least or else it is just too puffy in the back of my head especially. My hair is thin and fine but puffs a lot. I’m going to let it grow for a while like this and see.
    How did you grow your layers out? Your hair is much longer than mine.

  • @samira15823

    Hi Delilah. I have grown out my layers and I have low density hair as well. Why is it that my hair still falls out into a triangle whenever I style my hair into a half up half down style?

    • @HolisticEnchilada

      Maybe your hair needs some layers. Curl type and texture will affect the shape.
