- Terra Star Jackson was a vibrant young sixth grader at Grange Middle School in Fairfield. Her family gave the nickname "Kissy" because of how sweet she was.

Even if you did have buttons at that crosswalk, it would be hard to see during the day. Usually the button lights are meant for the night. But.....there should be a cross walk person there. All the person has to do is wear a bright yellow vest and come out with a stop sign panel for when a child is about to cross. There could be another stop sign in place to make cars slow down or use a bunch of speed bumps.
Seriously. While walking my son to school this week, on two occasion we almost got hit by a car. And it wasn't that we didn't look. They were STOP at the sign. Only until we got to the middle they decided to take off and one car came within 1 foot from my knee. People are not paying attention and forgetting how to drive or maybe they dont care. Looking down at their phones too!
RIP Can’t even imagine the families pain.
This is what happens when we constantly allow people to drive like animals. Speeding around a school? Thoughtless inconsiderate animals.
If the person that was driving was impaired where is the manslaughter charge?
I grew up in Fairfield. It was ok 20 years ago. I went to Grange middle school. Now it's extremely ghetto there.

What are you serious no crossing guards for the school that's not right at all, all the schools are supposed to have crossing guards for the elementary schools at the nearest crosswalk by the school so the kids can cross safely. May that little girl rest in peace and I'll be praying for her family and God bless them, all i just hope is that the mom can get through this pain with her loving family together in peace together. My heart goes out to her family they lost a beautiful happy little girl and now she's her mom's angel forever.

@@TheCommentSpy769. I’m not blaming the mom, it’s the drivers fault- but I personally would have done exactly what you suggested (Get on the correct side of the road before drop off) rather than let my child have that risk. Especially if there is no crossing guard or light or anything.
@@bestiefswlady5251 you actually are wrong because more than half the kids walk to school in the morning because they live close or near the school, so it's not the parents fault about where they drop the kids off because we have crossing guards at the nearest crosswalks making sure kids cross the street safely. It's the drivers that need to watch out because at that time in the morning when kids are getting dropped off at the school it's pretty busy and slow with all the traffic so the drivers have enough time to watch what they are doing especially when your in a 15mph zone at most all schools roads mainly elementary schools but all schools have crosswalks so that traffic is slower and safer for the students and staff.
So sad I'm very sorry ..hope that drunk pays

Parents drive so crazy dropping off and picking up kids.
It would be nice if police would show up and patrol before and after school. The presence alone would make a difference.

Crosswalks that have signs posted and flashing lights warning drivers that a pedestrian is using the crosswalk seems to work only 25% of the time. A traffic enforcement police officer using a motorcycle is the only way to cut down on these violators plus a stiff fine of at least $275 for not stopping. This poor child should not have had her life taken away because of this reckless and irresponsible driver. I doubt if she has any remorseful behavior for the charges filed against her. Her only regret will be the time and money she has to spend defending her innocence.

Shades of the same incident that killed a young boy in West San Jose on Driftwood Drive. He was walking to school with his babysitter and was struck by a car as they were also in a crosswalk

That poor family! Please, people, slow down and pay attention to the road in front of you.
Sadly we always do something to fix a problem after the worst occurs. Hopefully the young girl was not suffering, very tragic. Always believe something can happen to you or your loved ones even if you feel like its not your problem. People need to be held accountable.
I HATE THAT ROAD. When i was there, there was no cross guard or lights. From the other side, it's a blind spot looking left because of the parked cars. I usually cross if there's no cars or if there is no cars on a lane but then stop in the middle if there's a speeding car

Having buttons means installing traffic lights at the intersection instead of no traffic lights at all.
