- An elderly man was beaten after he tried to stop a suspected package thief in Richmond. The incident happened on the victim's 77th birthday.

It's a shame that our society has lost respect for people, their property, and lives. It's also a shame that rather than address this, so that it can be changed, our society focuses instead on race or finds justifications for these acts to be done instead. Eldery abuse is up. We no longer teach respecting our elders, or anyone else for that matter. That's what needs to change. We need to do better as a community and not let our biases or fears stop us from doing the right thing. We need to not protect those who commit these heinous acts, but at the same time, not lump everyone who looks like that together. There were neighbors who saved this man's life. There was also a neighbor who stood by and did nothing. We must choose who we want to be or what we want our society to become. Respect. We need it to come back.
