- Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describing the anatomy and associated injuries of the knee joint.
Disrupted quadriceps
•Patient is unable to actively extend the knee.
The most common cause of ACL ruptures:
•Traumatic force being applied during twisting motion.
•Side stepping or landing from a jump.
Patient complains of:
•Immediate pain
•Knee giving way
•Swelling
Aspiration of the knee
•If aspiration of the knee joint shows evidence of blood within the joint there is 75-80% chance of ACL and meniscal injury.
Lachamn’s test- ACL knee exam
•Knee is flexed at 30 degrees.
•ACL tear of the knee is identified by pulling on the tibia and examining the frontward motion of the lower leg in comparison to the upper leg.
Radiological exam - ACL
•MRI of the knee joint shows bone lesions or bruising associated with tears of the ACL. Injury is found in the typical location; middle of the femoral condyle and posterior part of the tibia laterally.
Posterior cruciate ligament tear (PCL)
•Common cause of injury is a bent knee hitting a dashboard in a car accident.
Tibial Sag Test -PCL knee exam
Quadriceps active test-PCL knee exam
•The examiner stabilizes the leg of the patient and then the patient is asked to actively contract the quadriceps muscle.
•The tibia is seen actively reduced from the posterior subluxed position.
Lachman’s test-PCL knee exam
•Knee is bent 20-30 degrees.
•The posterior drawer test is carried out while the patient is in a supine position and the knee is flexed to 90 degrees.
•The amount of translation of the tibia relative to the femur is observed.
The dial test is performed while the patient is in the supine or prone position and both knees are in 90 and 30 degrees of flexion. More than 10 degrees of external rotation indicates significant injury.
Common meniscal tears
Symptoms include
•Knee pain
•Pain with straightening the knee
•Swelling
•Locking
•Weakness

It is an awesome exclusive product for learning how to fix chronic knee pain without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor got great success with it.

The treatment is usually ice, NSAIDS, decreased physical activity, crutches, bracing, therapy. If it is an isolated injury, surgery is usually not needed. However, when there is associated injuries with other ligaments, surgery may be needed to prevent future instability. Always consult your doctor before you make decisions for your medical care.
I was in your office today, just wanted to say thank you again for everything that you have done to help my with my knee injuries. These videos are excellent and very informative, keep up the good work, - Amanda (Right knee microfracture).

It depends on your definition of locking. Locking typically occurs from meniscus tear.

Today, I went into hospital for knee surgery. When I awoke, I was surprised to find a bandage wrapped around my throbbing head. The nurse explained that a student observer had fainted in the operating room and his head had smashed against mine on the way down.

Thanks for the video!
Very touchable information Thank you so much doctor Nabil
I'd been suffering with bad knee pain for about 2 weeks, coming from the back of my knee & partly above & below my knee at the rear of it. I put it down to a strain on the hamstring, but it was really painful for a while in the mornings.i work manually & found one morning i was like a spectator on the job as I was working on hill like ground. However I was working on a few home projects over the following week & the pain in the area wasn't getting any better. I was getting into my car a few days later & i felt a crack like noise coming from my knee & instantly my knee gave in, I found it extremely hard to try & stand & bare weight, it took me about 15 minutes to get back into my home because of the extreme pain.
I'm using crutches for the past 2 days, I realize I'll have to get to my doctor to get a proper diagnoses. This video has been a great help to understanding the injury I may have. Thank you for the information guys!
Thank Leonard J for your reply! Very interesting & helpful!

It depends on what is shown on the MRI. You should have a better idea of your treatment plan after the scan and your doctor see's the results.

Thank you so much for this...Im using some of this information for a report in my massage therapy class.
This would be better if you included as much detail into the LCL/MCL injury - I would really like to have seen a live video showing the test and/or injury like you did for the ACL/PCL.
Thank you!
Very informative thanks for video
Great information - Helped me understand my right knee likely hyperextension problems
hey Jim how u doing now? did u ever find a exercise to fix your hyperextension?
Very informative thank you
@carrotpick It sounds like you are describing an injury to the medial collateral ligament of the knee. This injury may require bracing and sometimes even surgery, you should be examined by an orthopaedic surgeon.
make sure you check your ligaments and the knee cap
Thank you, very ilustrative.
Now I'm waiting for the magnetic resonance and the diagnostic......
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
I just fell sideways and hurt both knees. Your video, while not not as good as a trip to the doctor, was still very informitive.

I am a regular adventurer. Or at least, I used to be. Recently, I received a puncturing injury to my right knee due to an accident involving a misfired arrow. I'm able to walk on it and the pain is subsiding on some occasions with proper medication and less lollygagging, but my job has been affected as I am forced into guard duty while my cousin, whose knee is still perfectly intact, is out fighting dragons.
@Cellat1071 need to see a doc
may need PT and examination
thank you
For a 2010 video, this is very well explained with nice pictures.
good video. I landed on my right knee a week ago coming off from a lift doing snowboarding. went to see a chiro yesterday and he said i sprained my MCL. came here to look for exercise to help me heal faster because i still want to go snowboarding this time but will be wearing knee pads for sure.
@san d how are you doing right now, I've sprained my knee today and haven't visited the doctors yet
You probably need to see an Orthopedic surgeon for an examination. It could be arthritis, ligaments, really anything. Without an examination and possible studies it is hard to tell.
@MrKangavar thanks
I have no idea what is wrong with my knee.. but this sounds like the one that fits the description best
@mwidmer84 you can use MRI
@1sedgebeer check your knee
see a doc
worry about the meniscus and ligaments
@rosh543 see a doc you may have injured the ligaments,may need an MRI
Many Thanks......
@donTMFron see a doc
may need MRI
very informative
@Miroslawsnketr thanks for understanding
Thanks for this very informative video.
I am a regular badminton player. Recently, I am getting knee ache on my left knee. Typically, it pains a lot in the beginning of games and after a while it goes away. Also i notice pain when I climb stairs. Normal walking is fine. Your advice is much appreciated.
Well good to see you here I'm a badminton player too and I slipped on the court and hurt my knee now I can't even play the game I love most
@EndureTemptation SORRY ABOUT THAT
hope you are ok
Just partially broken ACL and LCL , weird thing is that I only heard a crack but no pain. I hope to recover as soon as possible and go back climbing =/
What can I help you with?
Tks for this video. that hep me in my class. Tksssssssss.
@1Nekit1 hope you will be ok
At time 5:29, can you please explain that we are viewing is the right knee, and at 5:42 that we are viewing TWO *right* knees seen side by side. Explanation could be in the form of marking the pictures, and also stating the facts in the audio track. The only reason I can decode the picture is that the kneecap is visible, hence frontal (=anterior) view, and that lateral means outside (to the side) and medial means inside (in the middle).
Even better, show both right and left leg at the same time, instead of two right legs, and most of the opportunity for confusion goes away.
Otherwise a great video, I'm going to finish watching now. Thanks!
fell by the pool 2 days ago, and doc said today Knee Effusion ~ here I am learning now (:
