One of my favourite things about the remake is that the guides for the original '94 game are still helpful.
Yes, the decapitated head you need for a retinal scanner is still in the same location!
Nightdive is known for being extremely faithful to the originals in all the games it remakes, warts and all. Remakes are pretty much all they do. Ofc that also means that all the same frustrations from the original, except the ancient UI, are also still present.
So are the Isolinear Chips and the C-4. Some stuff, like the computer node on Storage, is noticably changed and can throw you off your routine first time through.
Love the game, absolutely brilliant remake. Played through three times by now - on top of the 10+ playthroughs of the Enhanced Edition. :)
I played this game and this trailer is absolutely 100% accurate
You could even say....It's Honest.
When did it come out
@@lordbellis514 a few weeks ago
we need a SIMPSONS HIT AND RUN Honest Game Trailer!!!
Barm
No, we need a hit and run remake or reboot
YES
Yes, this! You definitely need one of these!
@@Psych0Daddy still need a HT
Man it's so great that this didn't suck. Like I was a bit worried, but nah. It makes me feel like a kid again and not only that it's super well polished and optimized so it even runs decent settings on my old outdated laptop. Hell yeah, lets get these guys to do System Shock 2 also.

You can even use old System Shock guides to navigate the remake. Ofc that also means that all the same frustrations from the original, except the ancient UI, are also still present. And yes, they're planning on doing System Shock 2 next.
@@ArawnOfAnnwn
This may be a bit pedantic, but the only outright remake Nightdive has made is System Shock (the one in this video). The rest are remasters, like Turok or Blade Runner, and the one they're doing for System Shock 2.
@@TheJFGB93 Fair enough.
Man a reference to Descent? What a nostalgia throwback 😭 thank you
Wow, Hackers and Descent references in the same episode. Well done.
I died so many times, but somehow I managed to scramble through it to the end by huffing copious amounts of nostalgia. I'm chasing the dragon with a playthrough of the original Deus Ex. I need help...
I played the original Deus Ex recently. It ain't that bad. The worst thing about it is the graphics, otherwise it's fine. Just don't try carrying everything you find.
It's a long time since I played it, but I remember the stealth gameplay was not great, with all enemies on the map instantly knowing where you were when you failed to drop someone in a single hit.
But that is something you can easily look past, I reckon, as the story and atmosphere is _sooo good._
@@R0ssMM The story is good. I wouldn't call the atmosphere good. Human Revolution did beat the original in several respects, and art direction, music and atmosphere are some of them. The original doesn't really feel like much tbh, and JC Denton is basically cardboard next to Adam Jensen. So are the rest of the NPCs in the original next to Human Revolution. Human Revolution also has a good story. I'd say it's at least equal to that of the original.
@@ArawnOfAnnwn Ah, I've only played the original and Invisible War. I got Human Revolution cheap on Steam but haven't gotten around to playing it; it is on my list!
@@ArawnOfAnnwn Deus Ex 1's story is incredibly timeless and prescient, the intro cutscene alone predicted certain world leaders' response to a certain worldwide unUA-camfriendly event to mention. The game artfully balanced over-the-top conspiracy theories with style and humor. Human Revolution's main conflict is between idiots who are basically anti-medicine run by the Illuminati and Sarif "No government regulation on augs, nightmare cannons for everyone!" Industries. While the game raises some points of its own like the ways augs could facilitate worker exploitation, it's barely explored and the game's most prominent critique of augs is the completely emotional argument of it taking away "soul" and humanity "not being meant to play God" (and the people saying this, again, are being controlled by the Illuminati) rather than any really valid critique. There's just no comparison.
Also JC Denton isn't meant to be incredibly deep and well characterized yes, because Ion Storm had a design philosophy of the player's agency being put above all else. He spoke for himself occasionally but otherwise he was a blank slate for the player to project themselves in and make him do all the cool stuff all on their own. Jensen unfortunately doesn't get the same treatment, making choices on his own all the time and being more of a character with his own agency in the story, which unfortunately takes away from the player's. Not to mention the many times where he becomes suddenly incompetent in cutscenes without the player's input, because they couldn't think of any way to drive the story forward otherwise. That's something the original game never did. If you made mistakes, it's something you could have fixed or prevented with a little bit of planning.
It's a real shame that Shamus Young never got a chance to play this game before he died. He was a huge fan of the original, he was eagerly anticipating the release of this remake, and he was even one of the crowdfunding backers. A pity. He should have had the chance to experience this for himself, and write about it on his blog.
4:24- Snacktron is nice, but I'll ALWAYS have a soft spot for Ken Levine's voice as Bioshock's Circus of Values machine.
Well done honest trailer. Definitely covers how the game plays very well.
SHODAN was one of my first video game crushes. I bought this on sale this month, because of course I did.
That throwback to Descent was epic. I just looked it up: It came out in 1994. Now I feel really old... -.-
To think this is what led to the Bioshock series...
Have you had a chance to play the System Shock remake yet? It's amazing.
And atomic heart
I love the Descent clip. One of the best series of all time.
Do an Honest Game Trailer on the Descent series! (starting with the first one)
That would be awesome! I'd love a concluding video of Overload, great game from the makers of Descent but definitely ripe for some HGT teasing.
@@yoshimitsu5537 Overload's an amazing game!
Make an Honest Trailer for Final Fantasy XVI
Wooo! What a breath of fresh air. On par with your RE4 Remake video. Thanks, I needed this tonight.

We need a Spyro reignited trilogy ❤
Ummm show someone tell him?
Do Honest Trailers for the Simcity/Cities Skylines games, Dwarf Fortress and Hyperdimension Neptunia!
Please say, "I would hug your cactus facsimile, but it would only hurt me further."
-Wambus (Bugsnax)
This was awesome. Thank you for making it!
I actually kind of agree. It is a ripe time for a Daikatana Remake.
As long as the helper A.I. _functions_ then that would be enough for me.
Haha, whoever remembers Daikatana must be (at the very least) in their 30s by now, but more like 40ish. I remember Daikatana. Not fondly.
@@davideberhardt6150 Do you also remember Planescape Torment? If so, how do you remember it?
@@ArawnOfAnnwn Updated my journal
Great choice! Now do one for the Jagged Alliance series (or just JA2 or JA3).
A Daikatana remaster/reimagining might actually work and bring what John Romero intended it to be with today's advancements in computing power if it was developed with enough time and not rushed like many games today.
I'd definitely want a Daikatana *Remake*, not a remaster. That game needs much more love than an upscale and compatibility.
Now if we're talking a remaster (or a faithful remake like this) the immersive sim of choice is *Deus Ex* and above all else.
Deus Ex doesn't need a remake or remaster, Deus Ex: Revision is all we needed
@@carnifexx I think Deus Ex would benefit immensely from the visual enhancement of a remake. Revision does a good job, but there's only so much polish you can do to something that's decades old.
Once more, I have failed to get an Honest Game Trailer for SimCity made.
I am disappointed, but I have incentive to keep trying- my girlfriend said if it gets made, she will get me a special present.
I would like a special present!
Do SimCity!
SimCity! SimCity! SimCity!
I only remember you from my late middle school years, but you are just as good as I remembered you. Considering most people start to degrade in quality over the years, congratulations on staying high quality after all this time!
Please do a Dwarf Fortress Honest Trailer!
1:04 "What?? How the shit was I supposed to know that?!.. Ahh, I missed this.."
My sentiments playing this game EXACTLY. Still absolutely loved it.
Make a video for Ghost Trick now that the remaster is out, please!
We need a Roller Coaster Tycoon honest trailer!!
The Chaos Gods require a tribute in the form of an Honest Trailer for the Total War: Warhammer trilogy!!
Don't you dare insult TS-04 Laser Rapier, this beauty carry me through entire game.
The world needs an Assassin's Creed Syndicate Honest Trailer. We need it!!!!!!!
Honest Trailer for Exoprimal!
2:35 *System Shock 2 'Nam Flashbacks intensify*
Yup. The inventory is the hardest enemy in System Shock.
Give me the chills with the line "Welcome to PlayPaintChill. You just gained honor +2 for following us ! ".
for anyone wondering at 3:10 the red text says: as a cyborg, you will serve shodon well
Yay! You said last week's comment! Thanks! 👍🏻
Catching on
You should make one for the dot hack series, it really deserves one.
I actually wouldn't mind remakes of games like Daikatana, even if it's just to rehabilitate the original's reputation.
I'd rather have a Planescape Torment remake. It deserves one far more than Daikatana.
Romero just did an AMA on Reddit and people have been constantly asking him about a Daikatana remake. What a zeitgeist, eh?
Erm, actually, the Laser Rapier from System Shock predates the light saber on Star Wars.
System Shock came out in 1994.
Episode One came out in 1999.
never played, but this video makes it look like that old mystery date game, "open the door and see who's waiting for you!"
Except in this case, every possible date wants to kill you. So i guess kind of like tinder
Say "I'm going to propose to my girlfriend when we get back to base! I even bought flowers!" And/or do an Ace Combat Honest Trailer
I love the Bioshock series, as well as many immersive sims from the last 10-15 years. But I could not get into the System Shock Remake. I never played the original either. I seem alone in this though.
Try System Shock 2? Graphics are... acceptable even now and gameplay is arguably much better.
0:40 fun fact: you could turn off the screech on the dial up modems, that noise was intentional
Make an Honest Trailer for Exoprimal
I would love to drunkenly play Descent!
Never mind Daikatana, how about a Planescape Torment remake instead?
Arthritic fistbump for the Descent reference, yo.
This is a rebooted version of mortal Kombat 1 but with more characters
Appreciate the scenes from "Lawnmower Man"
Thanks for the Descent reference.
Oh, say, "We are the borg. You will be assimilated!"
Do an Honest Game Trailer for the first Xenoblade!!
I'd love to see an Honest Game Trailer of City of Heroes: Homecoming!
I original 'lemmings jumping off cliffs film' was a set-up that gathered lemmings and drove them off the cliff. Lemmings do not jump off cliffs en mass. I love you and hold you sacred, but I am nitpicking.
I cannot count how many times I have died to the most difficult adversary of all!
Take a spin, now you're in with the techno set, you're going surfing on the internet!
Say, "The only fantasy here is yours. And we shall be its final witness."
A Daikatana remaster would actually be pretty cool
for it being done in the style of classic games: do boltgun
Say, "I can't believe we still haven't done a Honest Trailer for Hyperdimension Neptunia."

Holy shit, I didn't think anyone remembered Descent.
ooh got my name on the pleading screen
Shout out to Descent and Computer screams, ah nostalgia😊
When cs188 YTP makes it into honest game trailers I know my life is complete.
Please do a trailer for the original Donkey Kong game!
Say: “One man’s trash is another mans “do I have room for this in my inventory?””
Ayyyyy a GameFAQs shout out!!
Please say: "Damn son where'd you find this!?"
We need a C.R.Y.S.I.S honest trailer. PLEEEEEASE!!!!
Please say: "Thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell."
Please make an Honest Game Trailer for "Bugsnax".
Great! Now please do Hollow Knight. It's been six years.
Say: "Mm, I love this one. My old man gave it to me."
Please do a boltgun honest trailer
Please say the following: "That's my name. Don't wear it out. Or else!!"
Ayyy my comment got featured. Very cool 😎
Windows 2077: Now *THERE'S* a cyber-horror game!
Missed opportunity to release this on consoles. Could've introduced a whole new generation to a classic. Instead, the same people who played it last time got it again. Wonderful
Ok, for that Daikatana deep cut, I demand that in the next video you say, "John Romero's about to make you his bitch!"
.... please?
Daikatana remake?! Don't put that evil on us, EVG! Don't you put that on us!
Yay for Descent!!
Can you please say in your epic voice " Fight Forever gets seven and three-quarter stars sticks out tongue."
Say "That's rough, buddy."
Yo Honest Gamer Trailers, it's yo boy Kranitoko coming along to ask again for an Alan Wake honest trailer. Feeling a bit sicky 🤧 but I'll live
Cya next week
Do an Honest Game Trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
Do one for Exoprimal
DESCENT MENTIONED!!!
When I played the original, I could barely understand English, so I never could complete it without using guides.
Time to actually try to do it the "right" way.
Can we get an Honest Game Trailer of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code?
lol @ the limited inventory space dig. hahaha.
May I humbly request a Kid Icarus: Uprising honest trailer?
Hey, can you please say "the Bond's name, James Name"
Please say "6:30 is the best time on a clock, hands down."
Please make an Honest Game Trailer for "Killer Frequency"
