Spring 1989, in Spain on holiday with my new gf, we had four albums on cassette to keep us happy. Buzzcocks 'Singles, Going Steady.'..Leonard Cohen 'I'm Your Man', Lou Reed 'Transformer' and Bongwater 'Double Bummer Plus'. I'm there again when I hear this...
This is why I ❤ the comments section so much- awesome spring break in Spain soundtrack! For me, study abroad in London 1995: The Muffs- Muffs + Blonder & Blonder, Masters of the Obvious- Bolt!, Portishead- Dummy, and Where The Pyramid Meets The Eye, the Roky Erickson tribute album with this Bongwater cover. Mind the gap…😊
When the depression gets intense, I find some way to be alone and blast Bongwater - "The Big Sell-Out", "Breaking No New Ground" and this one. This is about every relationship I've ever been in.
I was introduced to bong water in the early 90s by my ex-husband while we were still dating. He comes over and tells me enthusiastically that he got the CD he's been trying to get for a long time and it turned out to bongwaters double bummer CD. When I heard the last two songs which turned out to be covers of you don't love me yet by Rocky Erickson and dolphin song by The Monkees. When I first heard you don't love me yet it was like a revelation it's been handed to me it was totally amazing and I've always loved this version the best not making a lot of Rocky Erickson but I don't know bong Waters version it's just like a revelation to me and I've always loved the song
I haven't heard this in decades. Bongwater was always on the menu in those days. Bongwater, DK, Manowar, Ramones, Misfits, GWAR, all sorts of Motown. We had a helluva playlist in high school.
Hello boys and girls, wanna read something cool mixed with sadness that in the end turned hopeful? Okay, here we go My dearest sweetest friend Beth V. is a nurse whom some years ago was working at a mental health facility in Austin, TX and it turns out that one of the patients was the author of this song: Roky Erickson - singer and songwriter of the legendary '60s band 13th Floor Elevators. Roky experienced mental problems of which much is documented, and due to his mother had him committed and Beth ended up being his nurse, she related that it sadden her seeing him there, his mother may have kept him longer than needed ( this was beth's suspicion) but he was released and he went on play and record music again. Roky died but he left a wonderful musical legacy that inspired many artists.
i always categorize these Magnuson songs as Anthemic Romantic Dystopic - an untapped pop genre that she utilized well. you can always see people singing together at a bar to these tunes like soccer players together on a saturday night.
My boyfriend put this on a mix tape, (it was a cd version of a mixtape) but it always makes me teary eyed. I do enjoy this band, and I will especially love this song forever. Thank you Bongwater.
Just a beautiful gorgeous tune and I had the original where the pyramid meets the eye cd.... and this song was the highlight. In these hardest and saddest of times for me, this brings back so many gorgeous memories and with it, tears.
Twenty-nine years later the mystery is solved. Their cover of Slap Happy's "The Drum" introduced me to Manly Palmer Hall through their use of samples from his lecture "The Spirit of Zen."
THANK YOU, I have been obsessed with this song lately and I needed to figure it out. Their voice is now taped in my memory, and I'm not even a christian.

If you only have 4 albums, can't go wrong with those four.
Sounds like good times

So genius. I put this on the Village jukebox in Richmond, Virginia when it came out and all my favorite people fell in love with it.
This version brings tears to my eyes, and I just listened to it for the first time in maybe 20 years? Sobbing. Beautiful and haunting. Thank you
me too
The brilliant Ann Magnuson. Her voice brings me to tears too.
One of my favorite covers ever. Roky and Bongwater is a perfect marriage

This is a timeless version of an excruciatingly beautiful song. Thank you Bongwater, and thank you Roky.
Where The Pyramid Meets The Eye is probably the best tribute album ever... and this is one of its best tracks.
You're right... that and "I'm Your Fan" (Leonard Cohen)
Goodbye, Roky, and Godspeed. You made it.
Awesome cover of Roky Erickson. Respect!
When I'd get blazed out of my mind this was my favorite song to listen to; it's so beautiful. I still love it.
Beautiful....God bless Roky

If any cover could be better than the original, this is it.
Instantly 21 years old again.🌊

beautiful singing
Rest in peace Roky. I love and miss you.
This is such great song writing
greatness love it 💛
Yeah it's Lil' Markie. Those samples pop up a few times on the Double Bummer album. Lil' Markie is far more disturbing without Bongwater on hand!
Why is this song so under viewed?
It’s spoken introduction ( in case anyone’s is interested ) is by demented Christian children’s entertainer, Little Markie. Milo
Twenty-nine years later the mystery is solved. Their cover of Slap Happy's "The Drum" introduced me to Manly Palmer Hall through their use of samples from his lecture "The Spirit of Zen."

Edit: We miss you when you’re gone, RIP
Great post,TY

i love the lil markie intro.
i got the porpoise song video on vhs, need to upload...
I'm sure this is a variation on the Godzilla march
See, this is, this is where the pyramid meets the eye.
There's a guy in my small town who has dirty carny skin and we call him bong water.
what talking? I don't hear any voices, are you sure it isn't just you?
;)
lyrics "hes not a boy that u can change"

Roky's version is better.
Wasn't Ann in a sitcom with Richard Lewis + Jamie Lee Curtis?
Great cover version... but for me, Rocky Erickson's original version has more "heart and soul".
howie mandel
The Peel session version is better in my opinion
From God, to Religionists...
what a great comment, pardon my historical contrast. "lightning doesn't strike anymore..." it's like a lecture
