The Clark Michigan 675 is my #1 favorite old classic heavy equipment piece. I know they made bigger and better and newer ones, but this is the coolest one of all.
this is when americans did what we do best, built and dreamed, companies stood behind their product mostly and workers, men/women weren't afraid to be offended or work a job that gets your hands dirty. now days, we are lazy and don't dream as much or want to get our hands dirty or think we are always owed or cry because one person said something or a fool paid for their stupidity but yet they blame it on others. Sad watching these old videos, see the old trades and other things that have disappeared due to upper management micro managing and thinking they know whats best instead of listening to the workers or getting rid of workers. I could be wrong to, but its sad to see it though, just watch the video from the workers at Carrier.
These great men needed only 2things to do this job @10:00 - Mechanical knowledge, and the ability to work. NOW, they would be required to take months of "Sensitivity Training" !!
One drawback of the Michigan 675 when introduced was its tire size.Tires then weren t just big enough for it.In this video the 675 is equipped with Goodyear 36.00-51,58PR(L4)tires which were the biggest tires back then. They weren t sufficient for it.The tire life span for these Goodyears was just 200-300 hours.Later on in 1976 Goodyear introduced the right tire for the massive 675 which was the 67-51XT,54PR(L-5) which was the right tire for this big wheel loader.Overall just 18 675s built
The size to ration worked better with the 475 back in the day i used to weld these buckets was fun but dirty work lol- will post up a link soon with the pics from those days when the uk had an industry.
great video. The letourneau is a great machine but to me did not have the retro look of the clark michigan 675 kitted right out with the larger tyes and larger rock bucket which i believe was 25 sq yard ! This machine was awesome -then i beliieve they did a 50 square yard coal bucket but proved to big as in the 475 had a 12 yard rock and had a 25 yard coal bucket ,,
I hope I'm not sounding presumptuous or anything like that, its just that you cant really compare the two loaders, they aren't really on the same level. But there's nothing wrong with the Cats either, any machine from this era is awesome, I love them all. Cat was smart anyways, they focused on business acquisitions that actually had something to do with heavy equipment... not buying French financial organizations like Clark was. I'm glad Cat is still around, they were smart... but I'm sad
@generationll That being said, I still think that the 675B was far superior to the 992, maybe not quite so much the C but definitely the B model. Wait a sec, the 992B only had a bucket capacity around 10 cubic yards and the 992C only went up to about 13, so how are you comparing these loaders anyways??
@generationll Yes but that doesn't necessarily mean that the 992 was the best wheel loader. You have to take into account the sales and management of each individual company. Clark engineers were the best out there at the time, but the business managers sucked and bought basically every company they could and overdiversified. This resulted in the subsequent failure of Clark/Michigan loaders because the company had failed, not because the wheel loader had failed.
Sad to know our industry changed so drastically...we made everything we needed right here now names like daewoo, komatsu, kobelco,Hyundai, samsung make better stuff well actually they make the stuff...cuz we dont anymore
sorry guys i meant the cat 992/4 series even still i still think the michigan was the best looker! mean and looked like it was put together with thought. Thanks for these videos i thought it had all been forgotten. I have posted some pics of the uk ones fabricated at jack oldings hatfield Its under myspace with the name sldolding- Thanks
Thank you so much for posting these videos. Wonderful footage of not only some amazing machines but a bygone era of American industrial history.
i have skinned a lot of knuckles on the old Michigans! Volvo bought Clark/Michigan and let the big loaders fade away.. thanks 4 the memerories!
Running two V-16's! MERCY! And a lifetime supply of hearing aid batteries and loving every second of it!
What a bygone era of greatness, the machines in this video are bleed pure excellence. Shit was just built better.

to see that a company like Clark/Michigan that produced such awesome loaders had to leave the industry.
And I thought my clark 175B was huge!! This really is a monster, even for today's standards.

Back in the day you had a bubble in your butt, a bad sunburn and def from listening to those Detroit’s all day!
That 675 was really something in its day.
The 675 still is something to behold and tbh still out performs more modern equipment you can't beat a clark Michigan
That is a nice video and a lot of work
i thought the Big Bud 747 4wd tractor was big it has a V16 Detroit. this 675 has 2 V16 Detroits dam that is huge.
thanks for this video. for me, the most durable boots, I have a small and I'm satisfied.
Top notch welders👍

Fantastic machine!!!!
The 475,H-400 and the 570 are now all gone. But the Caterpillar 992 is still being produced
Back when America did things and made stuff :(
No cabs i love it freedom with nature running those old girls
12ton bucket that crazzy i think my friends 190 is huge its like a garden tractor compared
the truck at 1:31 its a IH Payhauler?
Did some equipment like these have natural rubber or butyl innertubes in the tires?
The Detroit Diesel 16V-71 is the same in the Big Bud 16V-747

Alguém pode mim falar em em que ano foi montado essa máquina da Klark. Brasil

If it's the first production 475, why is the model number 475-III-A ?
176 or 316 tonn?
@generationll Yes but that doesn't necessarily mean that the 992 was the best wheel loader. You have to take into account the sales and management of each individual company. I feel like a pussy with my Dana 30
my old boss had 2 smaller ones with the 555 cummins and 471 Detroit
Big is all relative.
Mingafatcha this guy narrating means it
If yiu want to compare big wheel loaders lets start with the Cat 994 vs the 675
why is this 475 listed under a 675
I should have watched the whole video before I made a comment, I stand corrected
Sounds like the guy from the NFL films
The company I work for don’t want us moving our loaders more than we have up down a haul road I run 992 CAT
Back when cigarettes where healthy and you could get stuff done off of a handshake
Sad to know our industry changed so drastically...we made everything we needed right here now names like daewoo, komatsu, kobelco,Hyundai, samsung make better stuff well actually they make the stuff...cuz we dont anymore
