  • Baby Ball Python care is easy - they need similar temperature, humidity, hygiene, and food to adults after all. As you’ll find out though, what changes is how you maintain/alter some of these things, and how sensitive hatchlings are to them…
If you’d like a more in-depth look at Baby Ball Python care, check out this blog post: ballpythonbree...
If you are concerned about feeding hatchlings for the first time, or assist feeding - watch this video:

Overall, I find growing on hatchlings to be a fun, straightforward experience. My advice is to watch this video for tips - but also do a lot of research before breeding/buying and think about what kind of setup will help you maintain the best humidity and temperature.
In general, once feeding consistently these snakes grow quickly and become hardier with age. All this video is about is just how I do things very slightly differently when they’re young.
In this video we’ll take a look at:
    • Temperature
    • Humidity
    • Setup (including substrate)
    • Hygiene
    • Handling
    • Food (including food size)

From this video, you should have some ideas about how you’ll go about caring for your hatchling Ball Pythons. As always, please get in touch if there’s anything else you’d like to know…

I love the tub divider idea. I’d like to see how to build something like this.

Hey thanks for commenting! Unfortunately I can't take credit for the idea - they are prefabricated ones that I buy. I think they are made out of milled pvc. I have tried making them myself in the past and it is doable but a bit tricky. Some kind of hard plastic works best. Wood can work but it quickly gets stained and unhygienic. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hi there and thank you for subscribing! That is definitely a long time to go without shedding, but I have heard of it before. To help you out, I first need to ask some questions: 1. Have you been weighing the snake? 2. How much has the snake been eating? And how much does the food weigh? 3. Is the snake doing any part of the shed cycle? Or literally not at all? 4. Has the snake done anything weird like regurgitate?

They had been kept in a rack with substrate and a water bowl . But now have two identical hides each made from black guttering with a 32mm hole as well as 32 mm waste pipe with fittings on and I mix up the fake plants and Branches even though they are in 9 liter really useful tubs at the moment .

Changing the light cycle has worked wanders. I used to only see them if they were hungry but now I go in with a head torch and they are out and about .I take the tops off and see if they want to come out . Today, they were out exploring for an hour with supervision and the odd bit of handling when necessary.

I am trying out target training and choice based handling so far my female killerbee seems to slowly follow the green target but the male banana freezes up 😂. The main problem is getting them to go home when I want to put them back .

I have taken to only defrosting one rat fluff because the female is not as reliable a feeder, but the male is a right pig and will eat every time so he gets it if she doesn't.
The head torch doesn't seem to bother them in fact I am starting to think it's a trigger for them getting more active . So mine seem to have adapted very well from a basic rack tub to getting enrichment and adventure time very well .

I plan to start target training for food tomorrow with a blue target . my adult male is still off his food, so he has been left alone for a week to see if that helps .

Hi! What hide would you recommend for a 9month old ball python? Don’t want too big or too small :) thanks!

That's a tough one without knowing the snake's weight, but I would say have a look at the Exo Terra reptile caves. A large will probably be about right 🙂
