MAXIMALIST to EXTREME MINIMALIST │ my minimalist journey

    I owned at least 100 Barbie dolls growing up, I used to buy new clothes for every event, and I could just not get rid of the clutter (that was also driving me insane!). But when I learnt about minimalism it all changed!
    It was all prompted by a travelling lifestyle, and I am so grateful to have learnt what I know today. Less stuff, more life!
    Thank you so much for watching this video! If you have any questions please leave them in the comments. And if you watched until the end, please leave a comment letting me know if you grew up minimalist or maximalist!
    Thank you xxx

    Hello johanna. I'm the mom of 2 from the philippines who commented in one of your videos. I really love your ideas and insights towards minimalism and being eco-friendly. Our family also do our best to save the environment by reducing our stuff and waste. An environmentalist once said we may get rid of our stuff or declutter 90% of our things but always remember that everything we throw/get rid of still exist somewhere in our planet. So our main goal is not to reduce but to refuse and stop buying as much as possible and live sustainably.

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jenny! I remember :D Yes, I think that is so important. I really like to focus on not buying stuff instead of throwing things away. I used to throw clothes away, but now I make them in to scrunchies, or cloths for cleaning, or I mend them! Making their own scrunchies from old clothes might be a fun project for you and your kids!

    Oh my goodness, I nearly fell off my chair when you mentioned me! 🙏🌈. Thank you for sharing your story, it is so interesting. Sometimes it seems as though the only point of our human existence is to sell stuff to each other!! Seems to be a big part of our time here. But you are right, cutting through the conditioning and realising that I don't HAVE TO buy all these things was such a massive expansion in consciousness for me.

    I am a minimalist since a few years and i love it. Everytime i find something to declutter i am so happy. Friends and Family dont understand this and say „oh its so empty“ and laughing about me.But thats not my problem. To glad my husband like our home so empty and clean 😊 Love your videos. Can you show us your wardrobe please?

    Really enjoyed this video! So interesting to hear about all the places you have lived! I definitely was a maximalist while growing up - when I think of all the toys we had in our house (I'm one of four children), I can just feel the busy-ness and clutter of the house haha! Much prefer keeping a space with only things that have a purpose and I'm working towards that in my home now!

    I'm struggling to deal with all the stuff I accumulated to the point it makes me feel helpless. I've heard about minimalism and cleaning methods, but I have trouble putting any of that knowledge into action. Watching your video gave me a new inspiration, because you show how good it may feel like to be free of stuff. I think deep down I was afraid I'm just going to regret not having the familiarity of "my dear mess" around me. I know full well that all that stuff is in fact just a prison I built around myself because I'm afraid of moving on with my life. Thank you!

      Thank you so much for your lovely comment! And I am so happy to hear that I could be of help! I too feel scared at times (even now), thinking that I might need more stuff or should hold on to things. But then I remind myself that I want to be present here and now, and not hold on to the past or future. And my possessions are not what make me happy. Freedom is!

    I am binge-watching your channel today.
    I coined the term 'Stoic beauty'. I am still moved by aesthetics; a calm and warm space. I find that can be readily achieved with very little expense. A nice wood floor needs not a Persian rug. Plain white walls. Furnishing with plants, as you noted in another video. The use of negative space (ma, in Japanese design). Warmth in lighting - such beautiful soft light from inexpensive Ikea paper lights. And quality in things that really matter - two examples only, a really firm, organic mattress and a Japanese petty knife for cooking.
    Your content affirms so much of what I have realised about what matters in my life since discovering minimalism in 2014. It's a joy to watch. As, of course, extreme minimalism is very counter-cultural and all the messages - from advertising and society about what amounts to 'winning life' - are the exact opposite.

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  Рік тому

      Yay, thank you so much for your support. Alec is it?
      That sounds very similar to what we're planning for the future. Clay natural plastered walls don't need paintings or pictures. A calm bedroom does not need decorations or "stuff". A built in sofa with organic mattresses means no furniture, and a solid wood table is enough to decorate a whole room.

      Hi! How fun to hear that you are back on your journey 🥰 I also like going thrifting, I just gotta be careful I don’t buy things that make me stressed. I tend to buy a lot of fabric for future projects, but then I get overwhelmed when I buy too much!

  • @Bumbledora

    Wow! What journeys you have done! Thanks for sharing a lovely video! I wasn't a minimalist when I started decluttering my wardrobe. You know "I have nothing to wear!!!" screaming in my head whilst looking at all clothes I wasn't wearing. After that I saw the documentary on Netflix or HBO, I can't remember, about The Mininmalists and something clicked in me. That's how it all started out for me. I'm not done yet decluttering all things since I do live with my husband who is a non-minimalist, though not a hoarder. We do have gotten much stuff since moving in together (ages ago) and bringing up three children. So I'm much into The Swedish Death Cleaning-method combined with minimalism. It's a slow journey since I have several health issues and it will take it's time, but it's so much better than before. My wardrobe is pretty small. I only have what I love to wear and feel comfortable in. I sold of handbags, clothes, shoes etc and also donated plus recycled. If I need something, I think about it for a while and then I buy it. Like I bought my new Birkenstocks a while ago since I really wanted them. My old ones lasted for 13 yrs and then they completely kind of broke down lol!

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much. I had a similar journey! And clothes used to be so difficult to me. That’s why I only buy dresses now. So I don’t have to create an outfit!
      Slow I think is better. Good to make sure we do it without getting rid of things we might need.
      Oh and I totally get the shoes! I try not to buy things but then one things break and I just have to! Luckily in NZ there are a lot of second hand shops so at least all home wear we can buy second hand!

    • @Bumbledora
      @Bumbledora 2 роки тому

      @@SagaJohanna The only things I don’t buy secondhand are shoes. That’s because we all walk differently and it can cause backpains etc. Actually, I haven’t really bought much secondhand, I’ve inherently clothes from my daughter lol! She’s a bit taller than I am, but some clothes are just a perfect fit and even suitable for a middle age woman (52 yrs). She’s not a minimalist. She’s a maximalist for sure. But so was I when I was 20. 💗🌸💗🌸

So far I'm moving out from Portugal to Iceland and honestly I've stored too much things in Portugal (after living there just for 2 years). Keeping this in mind I will sell some more stuff and try to take to Iceland only really necessary things. You also inspired me to organize stuff in my family home since these stuff are my resposability (although I don't have here a lot). I was growing up as a maximalist and nowaydays I'm much more minimalist.

    Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, & with His STRIPES we are HEALED."
    God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin.Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people & went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith & trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) & stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?cool video you did on minimalism!
