I've danced this with a faster tempo at several wedding receptions, non Greek included, here in the USA. It's a great ice breaker and fun. Thank you for the video

This is not Misirlou. This is made by Mikis Theodorakis. Misir is arabian word for Egypt. Lou means girl. Misirlou is made by a boy from Greek for his girl frend in Egypt. But the dance actually is from Misirlou.

It's a bit more complicated. I would refer you to the Wikipedia article. Note, meanwhile, that Misir is the Turkish word for Egypt, ultimately from Arabic, lou in and of itself does not mean girl - it is a derivative ending also ultimately from Turkish, and the dance titled Misirlou is a product of Pennsylvania, although other versions appeared subsequently. Is there a Finnish version?

@@johnparrish9089 Thank you of your comment - many interesting facts. I have danced it, but I have never known that it is from Pennsylvania. Very estetic dance. There is no Finnish versions and not many in Finland knows the dance. The melody is better known.
