- Gotta start brushing up on the SFX skills for Halloween 2015 amirite?! This creepy eroded zombie mouth jawn was built using regular cotton balls and liquid latex (mine is from Nigel's).

This is my favourite tutorial of Mykie's. Not just because of the amazing sfx makeup she did (though I still adoreeee that), but because her hair and her eye makeup and everything just looks so gorgeous in this video even after she has the creepy mouth 😂 I'm just in love with her hair here idk.

This is why halloween is easy for people who are experienced with sfx
It's amazing how so many of these effects are more simple than I'd have imagined (though by simple I don't mean easy, I mean like how everyday items can be used to do some of these effects). Now, if you wanted to, since you were able to peel that whole thing off in one piece, could you save it, then apply it again for another use, & just apply more makeup to blend it back in?

Absolutely! You can use spirit gum or the like to reattach it :D i do sfx makeup as well. I save some of my crazy elaborate designs.

How do you cover the cotton in latex? Like its looks really easy but every time I tried, the sponge just picked up all the cotton. Can I have some help?
ItsMeSmiley Wait for the liquid latex to dry for the first coat. Then keep doing it until your done haha
ItsMeSmiley I used my fingers to press down the cotton as I put latex on it. It messes up your hands, but latex is easy to get off your hands

When you are lifting to sponge off, hold it down with your finger or palette knife , or I use a pencil a lot in this look,
First u put down latex and then the cotton and let that dry so then the cotton will stivck to the already dried latex and then proceed

None of these are really hard to find, though. Most of these are best bought online as well and with sfx, most brands work just as well as others.

I did this! After watching this I was inspired but I used glue because I had no liquid latex and I did it on my friend BUT IT WAS AWESOME I recommend this for beginners!

Just bring a large handkerchief, scarf, or something and wrap that part over it carefully after it's dried if you're wearing it on Halloween at school. Now it's covered but you can still show it off.

HeyyItsMatthew Yes, but you would generally have a lot less control over the shape of it, and you might have a hard time getting it to sit away from your mouth so that you can still talk.

I use elmers glue in replacement of latex sometimes. Works really well too :3
+isskyrawr I tried that when I started to do SFX a little while back and learned that the smell of the glue kills brain cells and it made my heart speed up I wouldn't recommend it. I use liquid latex now and it's not expensive ordering online.

What could you use in place of the latex, for those of us with allergies?

I used tissues and water based moisturizer ^^ works pretty good

I know this is a bizarre question, but does liquid latex smell strong, bad etc? Lovely tutorial by the way :3
The liquid latex I use has a very heavy ammonia smell. It is pretty bad but I usually pour it into my bowl I use and set it outside for a few minutes while I gather the rest of my stuff. It helps a little, hopefully this was helpful :-)
Not all liquid latexes are created equal! I use to use Cinema Secret's latex and I had an extremely difficult time putting it anywhere near my mouth nose or eyes because the ammonia burn was so awful. The latex I use now (from Nigel's Beauty Emporium) is a complete difference though- didn't notice the smell once even though I was working right under my nose and all around my mouth. It's also much more gentle on the skin and doesn't cause me break outs like the old one I use to use. Google Nigel's Beauty Emporium and go to their website -you can order it online. :)

BashMyTrash if she would get demonitized for the thumbnail, she was up shit creek anyways. I beleive the reason she did it is so people with severe phobias don't get triggered into a panic/puking attack if they're scrolling yourube and stumble upon it.
