A10 is a tank killer designed for infantry support and not for air superiority, ❤❤❤
Its usefulness as a tank destroyer is also dubious and it'd likely end up used as anti infantry given how things turned out in Iraq and Afghanistan coupled with how the tests it did on stationary armour did.

Infantry strongly desires loitering aircraft that can provide close air support not an hour away.
The tactic is not to have air alone but both support each other.
Aircraft support the ground troops with specific strikes and ground forces need to provide protection from anti aircraft assets.
It's the same for Armor and Infantry.
The Iraq and Afghan war outcome has no bearing on this aircraft's effectiveness.
F-16 engine is mounted on the belly and will ingest FOD. That's probably more of a worry than the landing gear.

Not so much because it is the magical all-overpowering weapon of Mass destruction, but more because it is like a missing piece of a puzzle. It is the missing piece of on overall military capability. It should slot into that very specific function of air defense and offense that Ukraine is lacking currently. It can now help to push back the ruzzian jets that is wreaking havoc in Ukraine. I am absolutely no military expert - no military education at all, but following the Ukraine situation fairly diligently, and that is the view I formed in my mind.
As long as you don't expect it to change the war in short order, sure.
F16 will not arrive , and if they do it is the very worst plane the USA could let them have like sending gloster gladiator to Malta they may do the job but it's not a hurricane or spitfire.

Remember that these upcoming Ukrainian F-16s are beginners and will need several years of training before becoming rigorously talented to deal with this kind of aircraft,
and I think these pilots will only be held around at home around their conquered territory as protection against Russian Fighter- Bombs and fighter aircraft.

The F-16 isn't a dogfighting airplane like the Eurofighter or F-22. It's all about the missiles, radar, &c.

There have been pilots in the USA training since the first weeks of the war. Part of the reason why the F-16 was chosen was because Ukrainian pilots preferred them over the F-15 and F-22.
@Doctadeth the F-22 would have been an outlier in any case because it's almost as much of a maintenance nightmare as the Eurofighter 😅
Turns on a dime but needs five years of maintenance per hour in the air because air superiority fighter.
F-16 otoh drives like a School bus and shoots down targets 1000 km beyond the horizon using the same electronics but without breaking a sweat because it's not going at Mach 3 all the time 😅

Those oil tankers are very susceptible to fighter aircraft munitions. The operating costs, even when docked, will mean that many of their older tankers will be broken up for scrap. The demerge cost on the tankers I rode was $20K -> $40K/ hr, depending on facility, cargo, and circumstance.
Ukraine's Navy has also started sea trials for the new Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette. I hope they will be able to make good use of it once trials and training are done.
I believe the remark about the landing gear of the F-16'S is about if landing strips are not available where can they land? A hard dirt road or highway?

The F-16's will make a big difference, because NATO will show Ukraine how to integrate them effectively for combined Air/Ground/Sea operations guided and steered by AWACs, its a major difference between how the East and West fight.... we will see if WWI/II tactics currently employed by Russia can withstand modern sophisticated warfare
The F-16 is a great multi-role plane but it is not the best multi-role plane. I do agree that given the current theatre that it is a good choice. One of it's biggest advantages is that it is hard to radar lock without stealth tech if it it is trying to fight or evade once it drops its stations. If it gets captured etc. we dont risk losing stealth tech. Its cheap and effective.
Defenestrate is the correct term for people being thrown out of windows. Defenestration was how the thirty-year war (1618 until 1635) started.
The issue is the large air intake - it will suck stuff off the tarmac into the engine - so Ukraine needs clean long runways

The Griffon can take off on short runways or even a highway and of course it’s a multi role aircraft so definitely a great bit of kit 🇺🇦✌️🇬🇧

The landing gear is not the only difference in aircraft design in harder landings. Notice the wings, elevators slap down and back during landing? The mounting points are reinforced for that impact as if it were light like the F16 they would have to be replaced every so many landings. The aircrafts are made a lot stronger, but also increase the weight of the aircraft.
I have to disagree with you on USA being weak telling Poland to not escalate. The F16 Fighting Falcon is one of the best all weather, multi purpose fighter bombers ever made in my view. They are the equivalent to our Hawker Hurricanes in WW2. The hurricane had the highest kill rate of the British fighter bombers, (yes even beating the Super marine Spitfire). The Psychological effect to the Russians will be enormous; those ' Backfire' bomber boys will always be waiting for the growl of their missile lock-on warnings as all the other aircraft types. A game changer? you bet, and they are nuclear ready, able to deploy the B61 nuclear gravity bomb; ( not that the UAF will use them of course) but the threat is there. I wish the UAF fly-boys all the best and they WILL prevail. Of course this is a war and the '16s are not invincible and losses can be expected. Slava Ukraini.

F16s have serious downsides vs modernized Su aircraft. Mind you these are not the most modern F16s eithrr. However and this is important. Most issues the F16 has is missile and radar range. Which data link with AWACs solves one of those problems. Russia's AWACs fleet being grounded also negates the superior range of Russian ATA missiles.
F16s longest ranged missiles can go farther than Russian fighter's radar range. So, with AWACs and data link combined with Russia's lack of AWACs, technically the F16 should have the advantage even an older F16 over even Russia's best fighters because without AWACs the F16s should be able to shoot first.
Russia's strategy two win an air battle was to out range, shoot down say an American AWACs then pick off American aircraft outside their radar range. But without AWACs themselves Russian aircraft can not out range because despite having longer range missiles they rely on ground and air radar systems to find targets for the pilots. This is also likely why ground radar has been major target as well those year.
F16s should dominate if Russian pilots are blind.
There is a reason the F-16 has a sophisticated flare and flak system. Elimination or minimization of Russia's anti-aircraft systems will help. Can't a SAM rocket be fired from a hand-held device?

The A10 requires air superiority to fly sorties, which the F16 might finally help Ukriane achieve. A10s are also very vulnerable to shoulder fired surface-air misslies, especially since A10s do low altitude combat missions. The A10 is a great close air support platform for ground troops, and they aren't ridiculously expensive. A10s would tear up the front line if they could counter anti-air threats. F16s will help create anti-access/denial zones and will allow Ukraine to defend their bombers closer to the front. I am curious about what Ukraine will do.
You'd quickly find out why everyone to ever fight under the umbrella of an A10 would beg fir an F16 in its place.
@@nodnarb54it's the mission that makes shoulder launched missiles a problem you get A10s and F16 both flying low attitude ground attack missions you will lose the F16s much more quickly.

I suspect the F-16 will be used to drop guided munitions on ground targets, provide anti-access/denial zones for Russian jets, take out ground radar and intercept misslies. F-16 are also vulnerable to shoulder fired ground to air misslies, but I suspect the F-16 will not have to get that close to the front in order to complete its missions. I am 100% certain an F16 will get shot down. The cost is worth it because the F16 is filling a role needed in Ukriane. They will take down the combat planes that have been dropping glide bombs on Ukrainian troops on the front line and intercept cruise missles heading for it's cities.
@@nodnarb54 you are right if the have any sense f16 will not be used for close ground support, that a role that may become drone only, but a10 is very good at a very hard role were as the f16 is okish at a much easier role so it annoys me when people make stupid statements about how much better the f16 is in every role. The problem is the Air Force hate the A10 and want the money for pretty planes so lie about it all the time, those that call it up for aid in a fire fight have a very different view , for example there was a trail against m60 tanks where 7xA10 armed only with their guns destroyed 50 plus tanks in under 15 minutes but of course the gun cannot kill a tank according to the Air Force (search y tube for the report) .
As to any missile exploding in 50 feet killing the pilot , go look at the Gulf war stats and see all the dead pilots telling you how much they love the plane that got them home after multiple hits.

F16s will definitely play a major role in combating enemy aircraft given that they have advanced avionics linked to a central information system allowing immediate response to enemy aircraft movements this will I hope take out aircraft and missiles as for the number of F16 s my thinking is they number 40 plus 7 more given Ukraine have at the 20 pilots and 50 ground staff fully trained then these pilots are going to be bizzy and I’m sure they are chomping at the bit to have a crack at the enemy if Poland send that squadron of Mig29s this year then even better 🇺🇦✌️🇬🇧

The A10 pilot sits in a titanium tub a lot safer than the F16, these will only be used on strike missions as the SU35 is a superiority aircraft & will decimate the F16s at a far greater distance with superior avionics & munitions.
