This is the best looking Toyota/Lexus SUV, in my opinion. Very sleek design.
Staying true to its Harrier name, sleek, sharp and just the right amount of aggression.
As usual some comments why so expensive, why no turbo, why less hp, blah blah. Better get X1 or even some will say X70. I think people who AFFORD to buy Harrier always concerned on comfort, luxury, reliability and after sales.
Loving the new look Harrier with all the features, especially the automatic tailgate.
6:07 tat is why he is the best auto journalist in malaysia. no one else can explain this. no one...
The design is good. It's a well balanced car. I believe it will be tail happy at Genting.
I love the old Harrier with the V6 engine and AWD.
certainly not for speed, i bet this gonna be more comfortable than competitor
comfortability & fuel efficiency definitely the main direction for this new gen Harrier
love that dials & physical button for the climate control, just disappointed that infotainment & speaker system is not like the US version..should have that as upgrade option
Because of your review I just paid down payment for all new fortuner trd. Indonesia
Excellent choice!
when the 1st generation launch 14 years ago this car became soo phenomenal.of course harrier is the icon of crossover and later on rename as lexus for us market. Now its in 4th generation but there are parts that are overlooked such as meter should fully digital, don't have chrome cover for exhaust and don't have hydraulic front bonet.why lexus had changes drastically compare with harrier?.but for 250k and 30% cheaper then lexus it really worth for money
You get what you pay for, my friend.
@@YSKhongDriving absolutely true boss...
The button next to the boot release button is for steering wheel heating - very nice on a cold winter's morning but probably not needed for Malaysia :-)
Thanks Ian. Yes, probably redundant here.
I wonder how this car performs wif an NA 2.0. Would hv been nice to hv the 2.5L from the Rav4.
Hopefully we can get a chance to drive it later.
@@YSKhongDriving Looking forward to you breaking this car in at a Genting run!
Just what I needed before I go to a Toyota showroom tomorrow to have a closer, SOP sanctioned, look at it.
Looking forward to your drive up Genting with it.
Harrier India me kab tak aayega sir please launch in india with affordable price range
@@casper5181 I heard its not launching in India
Would love to watch you give it a go at Genting boss!
Car is plush and has its charm. I don’t agree it is a slouch. We can’t expect it to be the fastest with good handling and highest trim and equipment level and still be at the price point it is at. No doubt we want it be everything to everyone but that’s how it works.
So this car only sold in 4 countries in the world? Japan, US, Singapore and Malaysia?
Bought one from australia too
I have no idea.
No gas struts for the bonnet?
No, just the metal prop
@@YSKhongDriving joke
Hi Mr Khong, pls may I know if you have driven this car especially for the Genting run? Would like your view of the car’s drivability in view of its 2L Dynamic Force engine, more so now with the newly launched Camry with the 2.5L Dynamic Force engine. Thanks,
No I have not.
Hi Mr. Khong, what do you mean by `Bi-LED head Light' ? Thank You.
Two instead of one?
Lacking wow factor on the old tech engine ,slow as snail
0-100 9.7sec still slow as snail for SUV? Fuel consumption is even better then the previous generation and how is it old?
@@hendrickt3672 0-100km/hr at 9.7 secs is consider snail pace while some SUV achieving 0-100km/hr, at 8 sec , some people are also saying snail pace too.
For the price 250k asking , it is not a value buy . Even other premium or non premium brands are way better than this .
Dated engine with slight improvement only not by a large margin.
Snail pace? are you sure 9.7 seconds to reach 100/h is snail pace? Don’t think so bro. And well, that’s your choice but not everyone else. Even people saying this is snail pace, I don’t think they haven’t go tried before instead some people saying complain about this new NA engine known as Dynamic Force Engine. Maybe you also assume this too. Why don’t you tried? 9.7 seconds to reach 100km/h is not even snail pace which gives better ride and good power
Besides, this is not even so dated engine. This Dynamic Force Engine totally fully replaces dated engine with more margin bro. Should study more on Dynamic Force Engine. And how it works.
Lastly, RM250k is still value buy but that’s your suit too but not everyone else follow your suit bro. And how can non-premium brands can be better than this? You know that this car have many features with more luxurious design compare to non-premium brands including some of premium brand. And also you wouldn’t know that turbo engine will unreliable sometimes compare to NA Engine and more costlier than NA Engine based on maintenance.
@@esk4105 Thanks for your reply bro.
Would like to highlight to you people who buy luxury SUV like GLC, X3, XC60 often do not pay attention to harrier. FYI , these buyers are having deeper pockets they look for top class comfort, safety , design, features, performance and status . These turbos are reliable and very quick too .
Harrier engine on the other hand is just NA . NA engine does not appeal to modern trend buyers even CRV turbo is quite reliable and fast too at a much cheaper price.
So I would stress that the equation that is right and justify for you in buying a Harrier does not necessary be right for people looking beyond a Toyota Harrier .
Harrier was good in the 90s till 2010. But so much fishes had swim under the bridge making the harrier seems a bit technically obsolete now .

Hi Mr Khong, I was just wondering if you're still planning to do a test drive of the 2021 Harrier at Genting? I know I'm late to the party haha
Waiting for Genting to be open.
Do you have a plan to launch the same model in India?
Hahaha, it's not up to me.
Uncle, next time show when the lights are on leh..
recon price almost like new from umw malaysia, whats the different sir?
Recond is a used car. Perhaps they have a high mark up
Does this model harrier has any ambient light interior
Not too sure: quite possible. Normally I dont worry too much about these little dress up items
When will come in india..
We have no news on that, sorry. Maybe Toyota India can answer that.
Why toyota entertainment head unit r mounted so high up? Obstructing.
The seat height is adjustable. It's the camera angle. You are meamt to see over the top of the frame.
Uncle. In your opinion Which car is the most comfortable for family use ? Max 2 kids.
Not enough facts to decide. Almost any vehicle above RM100k would fit the bill.
Nice review but I was expecting something better for that price range!
Nice car
Will this be launched in India?
If it... Then am gonna sell my creta and buy this... Such a lovely car
We do not have any news about India. We hope your wish comes true, and thanks for supporting our channel.
Is the price not important? No mention is made of that..
It's RM247k if you want one.
Instrument cluster looks like same design and resolution from Camry, the infotainment screen not nice, frame too thick, the rest is great
But infortainment screen size improves from 7 inch to 8 inch and doesn’t look bad though.
Questions:
1. Will all units be CBU Japan?
2. The horrible looking headunit, can it be upgraded to the full 10" size locally?
3. Warranty how long? Any free service and maintenance package for it?
4. What colours are available?
Thanks for this walk-around. Really helps.
Not sure about the rest. Answer to number 3 is 5 yrs unlimited mileage.
Why no tapau hook? I don't like it... haha
Okay seriously, why that big screen is up there? Just like covering my view
Being a car designer is a tough job. Too small, got problem, go big, also got problem.
Nice ouside and inside but with insufficient power train.
But reliability. With brand new dynamic force engine, it improves performance and fuel economy too.
It was 2.0 turbo before. Should have atleast fit in the 2.5 NA.
We will hopefully get to test it and check out how the new engine works. Same engine is in the Lexus UX.
Tata harrier buyed by Toyota?.. or just borrowed the name
I don't think Toyota would be borrowing any name from Tata.
UNCLE, I have some concerns about rear Harrier's taillights... the placement of indicators and reverse lights onto bumper... so low apart compared to main brake light housing... as motorcyclist, my vision to find indicators just quite dangerous..I mean just size of that blinkers MAYBE as wide as few millimeters.. I potentially missed out even it is made with brighter LED. I don't want to unintentionally rear ended this car.but those indicators just to atrocious.. your thoughts UNCLE?
I think the ones on the bumper are just reflectors.
@@YSKhongDriving oh..ok
Mix of honda amaze and baleno
Nice 👍
but no turbo. could be underpowered like cx5 2.0.
No turbo is actually good sometimes. Using turbo engine could cause problem due to turbo lag and turbo maintenance will be expensive to maintain. Even Harrier 2.0T got problems on turbo engine. That’s why they bring back with NA Engine but with Dynamic Force Engine is very new thing which is improves power and fuel economy is also quite good. So for this Harrier is not so underpowered at all which is quite good power with better ride.
My x70 will eat this for breakfast.
@@djtan3313 X70 can’t able to compare with this. Both are wrong comparison. Not saying X70 is not good. Both Harrier and X70 are good too. But Harrier fuel economy is better than X70. Even, both X70 and Harrier power are at the same level, despite Harrier is using NA Engine while X70 is using turbo engine.
@@djtan3313 this car 0-100 is 9.7 second for 0-100 while x70 is 9.5 second. not much difference. so x70 won't eat this for breakfast. x70 is not even faster than rav4 2.5l dynamic force
@@rausyansafwan9720 ok lor. U wanna pay 130k more for 0.2 secs slower acc... ok lor.
Toyota Harrier aka Range rover velar

Please send me invitation.
Very poorly specced lah ys....plus at this price no gas struts for bonnet n only 2.0 na???? Definitely a step backwards lor...should have installed the 2.0 turbo at the very least.....:(
It was Toyota decision to put the NA engine . I agree 2 litre NA engine sound uninspiring for a spirited driving .
No point putting a turbo engine if the maximum speed you can go is only 180 km/ hr just like the previous Harrier which has turbo.
@@zaf2643 and Hon Guen Loh NA Engine doesn’t make sounds uninspiring at all, This NA engine using Dynamic Force Engine is very new thing with improving power, improved NVH and fuel economy is also quite good. Actually no turbo is actually good sometimes. Using turbo engine could cause problem due to turbo lag and turbo maintenance will be expensive to maintain. Even Harrier 2.0T got problems on turbo engine. That’s why they bring back with NA Engine but with Dynamic Force Engine. So for this Harrier is not so underpowered at all which is quite good power with better ride and high speed too compare with Harrier 2.0T
do you even know what is dynamic force engine ?it's not old tech engine and it's even more advanced than 2.0 turbo in previous harrier.
@@esk4105 it is obvious this engine is for fuel economy & for sure this suv is focus on smooth driving & not for performance . This suv can handle normal daily driving . If you compare to Mazda CX 5 which also has a GDI engine 2.0 litre which produce 162 hp & 210 nm , it does have almost similar output .
Cx5 does well on normal driving but if you want to push further it has limitation especially driving on a heavy load.
I agree that turbo engine will give problem to owners in terms of maintainence .
This injin is for diehard, tightass toyota unkers lah
It’s a bird not lion....uncle🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha, yes, it's a bird.
Rear looks like cayenne
But it doesn’t look like cayenne though.
Beautiful car but the interior looks pretty bad.
Not really. The interior also looks good.
It’s not a lion. It’s a harrier...
Hahaha, yes.
back wow macam ativa's design,
Ativa is also known as Toyota Raize, so any resemblance is possible.
Back doesn’t look like Ativa design.
Hahaha, you need to really stretch your imagination...
Lmao go get your brain checked.
I got confused thinking Tata Harrier
Toyota Harrier launched since 1997 while Tata Harrier launched in 2019
170hp, 200Nm?? 250k?!
Joke.
So complaining about this engine? Nope and it is not joke bro. This 2.0 NA Engine is not that bad and acceleration is very smooth and greater bro. Even high speed for this Harrier is really awesome.
x70 is a joke too cause got turbo but still sluggish in acceleration. lol.
@@rausyansafwan9720 got dual clutch transmission and turbo engine but still slow, that's Geely for you, all show and no go.
Surprisingly, many people still go for it, and they don't complain at all. I have not driven it.
