@literallykevin, thanks for taking the time to write. I'm a fan of your work, too. I wish I wasn't on the opposite coast. I'd book some time for headshots.
Dear reader, the Neve clone preamps are beautiful because of how they **distort**. Most preamps are meant to run clean and not color the signal but a couple have some very nice grind built in. The Neve 1073 is one of the gorgeous color preamps. Try putting the pair in front of a synth and turning up the gain while you lower the output level on the preamp, which will load up the input transformer and color the sound in an awesome way.
I literally just ordered this combo for a podcast last week. I think they sound awesome if not neutral. I am putting an old DBX 166 as an insert on the 1073 before the EQ as a gate and limiter for overs, with the Neve compressor at 3:1 after.
If your primary use will be VO work, you don't need two preamps and two compressors. Any decent single channel preamp and compressor will be more than sufficient.
You can use the Compressor in the insert of the Preamp, so you have the EQs after the comp …. this works great
@AlexTsch, that is a great point. I missed that. Thanks for taking the time to write. 👍
That the way I use the 1273,
@@HeyLennyB this is how I have my gate and limiter placed, easy to turn on and off with the insert button.
Great stuff Lenny! Nice to see a brother in the industry with some actual experience!
