Thanks so much for this. My DBX 286s died over the weekend. I saw this video and decided to go with a Beringer Ultravoice UV. I have no regrets about buying it. This fabulous unit is about $100 USD cheaper than the DBX. The biggest difference between this and the DBX is that this had things that DBX does not. Power On/Off, Level Monitor, the Mix knob, and of course the headphone jack. Being an independent audio interface is just icing on the cake. To my ears, the DBX and The UV sound about the same. So why not save some money! Thanks for making this video. Looking at how yours was set up (and the steps you went to get the results) up gave me better results than when I attempted it on my own, and probably more so better than when I had the DBX. Cheers!
I am definitely appreciative of this video even though there is an excellent setup guide in the manual itself. This will be used as a reference for later use just in case. Thank you for this video.
I have a dbx 286s I bought used at a great price, now you got me thinking of selling and getting a UV1. I use a Rode NT1 and a little processing before going into my DAW goes a long way. As I am considering less expensive options for outboard gear, you've give me food for thought.
Excellent review Sir. I am a DBX owner myself,. But one thing I note is that you have a more upbeat tone to your voice when you switch to the Behringer whereas you are slower and more precise in what you say on the DBX, it also sounds like you get a little closer to the mic with the DBX . Also, you have the enhancers on both units set the same ie 3 -4, no two EQ's from different manufacturers would ever be the same, so personally, I would have tried to match the frequencies as you did with the gain and output etc. Behringer done a good job and has addressed the issues that DBX should have sorted, like inputs on the front, on-off switch and USB.
Excellent review and comparison at the end. DBX sounds better for me, but the Behringer have the parallel knob and headphones out, plus being an audio interface on its own which can be a plus for someone who wants a simply setup.
Hi there.. I just discovered you, and the first thing I noticed was the great voice sound in your video, so I subscribed immediately. I do some demo stuff on studio setup, like routing and mix minus with software, but I haven't honed the greatest sound quality practices, so will start to follow you. Great spoken word sound!!!
If you're just comparing interfaces, the Focusrite offers better stats. If your priority is quality, I'd choose the Focusrite 4th gen, which can be connected directly to your computer DAW for processing effects. However, I see the word "gamer" in your name. So, I'm guessing you'll need real-time processing. Then, the UV1 is a better choice.
Great video, thanks for making it! I had 2 DBX286s strips, and each failed within 6 months or less (ughh!!). For that reason alone, I've been happier with the Behringer UV1: Lower price, good sound, integrated USB interface, and On/Off switch. I agree with your comment that the De-esser is powerful, and the noise gate is smooth and effective. I especially appreciate your tip about setting the output to get similar levels with/without the Bypass. Well done!
well i have issues with my DBX286s, first it started to distort the sound when the compressor was used, when i turn on 48v, the light will stay on even if i turn it off and lastly a potentiometer is broken if i change gain it will make the sound crackle infinitely. Unplugging it from the wall made it work again for a while but now the soundlevel drops occasionally, so its broken/unusable.
I'm sorry to say this Narf sc2, but it sounds like your DBX286s is fried. My last unit lasted nearly 2 years (powered on 24/7) and then it died, offering some of the same symptoms you've described. I immediately purchased a replacement. They great, but cheep. #disposable
Hi Lenny, How are you? I'm just one more happy client from you and your preset EQ service!! Well let me express my opinion: you touched the right word at the end of the video. Fidelity!!! Seems to me that DBX sound was recorded in one mp3 with 96Kbps and UV1 with 128Kbps. I liked more the uv1 sound , seems that you are right in front of us speaking in our ears and nuances of your low mids more distinguishable. That's just my opinion tho. Cheers from Lisbon Lenny.
Actually prefer UV1's sound over the DBX from the comparisons i've viewed. Seems like a fresher device and better deal overall, hope thomann restocks soon.
Thank you, great insight into setup of voice processors across this channel. Quick question is there enough gain in this unit to drive dynamic microphones suchas the Shure SM7b without the gain at max? Kind regards Tony
Probably. But it would sound better with an inline preamp like a cloud lifter. You may have seen this already. However, this goes pretty deep on the subject. ua-cam.com/video/PwO_mCf95YM/v-deo.htmlsi=kfZRp3Vlf8K4k1Br
Honestly the DBX 286s sounds much more pronounced, crisp and smooth. Just my opinion. By the way the power switch issue with the DBX units is an easy fix. I use the Pyle PDBC70 power On/Off strip. Works with all my DBX strips just fine.
I tend to do the same and included with that solution; I plug my monitors in as well so they aren't always on. The switch on the strip takes care of all that. HOWEVER, the inclusion of the interface into one device...fantastic! And if it lives up to my UMC202HD, it would be rock solid.
I wish there were plugin versions of the UV1 and the 286s. With the market deluge of content creators, podcasts, gamers, etc., I'm actually surprised no one has done it yet.
Johnny, I've thought the very same thing. Here's what I've found. The compressor section on the DBX 286 is very similar to a DBX 160 VCA compressor. There are several plugin models of that out there. That's one of the reasons that I LOVE the Waves Scheps Omni Channel. It has the same vibe and more features. However, I agree. If someone were to make that, I think it would be popular. Unfortunately, I haven't seen one out there. Maybe DBX is holding on tightly to the licensing for that one. They should put one out themselves!!!! I'd buy it immediately @dbxprofessional
I am going to try this! I have had 2 DBX 286s's fail in the last 8 months. The compressor and noise gate have failed. Also the desser seems to be out on one. This Behringer seems like a great alternative!
Hi Jennifer, I know the struggle. The truth is that the DBX 286s units are cheap (respectively speaking) for what they do. I had several fail on me after about 1 year of use. However, I always replace them with another unit because they deliver the expected utility. I can't guarantee that the UV1 will last any longer. I do know that the DBX 286s units will last longer if you don't keep powered up 24/7 AND you make sure they have space above and below them (if on a desk or rack mounted) for cooler air to circulate. Heat seems to be the cause of an early demise for them. Good luck!
@@HeyLennyB yea it gets quite hot for a 15w rated device, i wonder if we could mod it with fans or atleast ventilation slits or something. I mean its supposed to get mounted in a rack, sad that it dies from heat. I had mine running for 3years, some issues started after about a year, but unplugging and replugging it always fixed it for a while. Now its just dead, its dropping soundlevel randomly.
Great video man. I'm torn between a new Ultravoice UV1 and a pristine used ART Pro Channel II Channel Strip for about the same price. Which would you get? Thanks
That's a tough call. I may be wrong, but the ART Pro Channel II Channel Strip may be discontinued/older. So, consider the age of the unit. I might opt for a new UV1 unit (with its warranty). However, I don't think you'd be disappointed with either one.
Hi Lenny. I went ahead and got this unit inspired by your video. It works great. I can hear and tweak everything, but for some reason I can not see the signal in my DAW (Logic 10) I selected it as my i/o but can't record. Would you happen to know what could be happening? I am using it as an interface as well.
@@HeyLennyB Hi Lenny. Thanks for responding so quickly. I fixed the problem. I needed to activate the microphone from Logic. It is a new computer with a new software and that never happened before. Again, thank you for your prompt response.
Thank you Lenny for the heaven sent review! Two different sounds! That DBX is still kicking butt with that well rounded deep signature! The Behringer's a bit airy compared to the rounded, dark-ish tone of the DBX. Would you recommend the Behringer for those with a mid-bass voice and the DBX for voices on the high end?
Hi Mon, To be honest, I'd like to hear what you're working with first. There's a good chance that the "low-mid" sounds you're experiencing is from a room resonance, rather than the microphone or processing. If you send me an example of your voice, I'd be happy to review it for you. You can submit from my website www.lennyb.com
Great video, Mr. B. Can someone please tell me, can the UV1 send the output to the computer via USB? What is the UV1 main purpose, is it for speaking or is it for singing. I need either a soundcard or a channelstrip mainly for recording singing. But I want a setup that is a simple as possible, so I am very tempted to buy the UV1 because it eliminates drivers and all that. A simple solution there goes directly in the DAW...
Yes, the UV1 can send audio via USB. It's basically a one-channel preamp, processor, and audio interface suitable for speaking or singing. It sounds like it may be a good choice for you.
Hello, can you tell me if it’s worth connecting a separate sound card motu m2 to the Ultravoice UV1? Will this be a plus for voice quality for voice acting?
I don't think it would be an improvement. The danger in connecting them both is that you must gain stage properly (the ratio between each device's gain) to get a good sound. If it was me, I'd use one or the other.
@@HeyLennyB I understand Behringer UV1 is like a full-fledged sound card and it is not necessary to connect another card to it but if we imagine that the Behringer UV1 and dbx 286s are the same devices, what does connecting the dbx 286s to a sound card provide? Will there be any differences in sound at all? "behringer UV1 motu m2 from "dbx 286s motu m2?
If you connect the Behringer UV1 to the Motu (Not using the USB connection), it would be similar to connecting the DBX 286s to an audio interface. However, the Behringer already has an audio interface, so you don't have to use an external audio interface when using the USB connection. But, either way, it should sound very similar.
Hi, I'm a newbie just getting started in voiceover my current setup is the ultravoice uv1, with a Grace 101 preamp, a volt 476 interface, & a Sennheiser 416 microphone. Honestly, it kind of seems like Overkill for Vo work. My question is is my setup too much and do I even need the grace preamp? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I would choose a few different configurations. However, it depends on your goal. Do you want the quality or real-time processing (versus post-processing)? If it's quality you're after, use the Grace Preamp directly into the Volt (with no Vintage or compression) and do all processing in your DAW with plugins. For real-time processing, I'd use the UV1.
I have had this unit for about a year now and I think it is great. My question though is for the money would I be getting a way better quality sound if I bought the Behringer 2-channel 1273 Microphone Preamplifier/Equalizer and 369 Compressor Dual Channel Strip Bundle for $1199. I am sure this will be better, but I am looking at a price per performance difference. Any comment would be a great help.
Hi @cedricjamersjr1, I would say yes if you're talking about voice recordings. However, this is assuming that your room is professionally treated and your source isn't plagued with reflections and resonance issues. The UV1 (like the DBX286) is an inexpensive way to get a good real-time processed voice recording sound. I believe you can usually get better voice-recording quality with a clean preamp and audio interface, processing in your DAW with plugins. (But no doubt, those two Behringer units would look pretty cool in any studio! 😆)
@@HeyLennyB I just stumbled across your channel the day before yesterday. I have a recording studio and have been concentrating on a plethora of things audio.... and I just want to say your videos are inspiring. You know sound and I want to know it like you do. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.
Thank you very much for the video, Lenny. Highly informative as always! The DBX 286S sounds slightly more open to me? I'm not sure if I'm hearing it just because there's a visual change in the video. Is there any channel strip which has more specific controls for compression (attack/release/threshold, etc)? I find it a bit concerning if I move the "drive" up I don't totally understand what it's doing. Is it pushing the whole signal up to a pre-determined threshold, and if so wouldn't it also push the noise floor up?
Hi Markux. There are other units that offer more controls for compression. However, they increase in price quickly. Take a look at the Drawmer MX60, and the ART Voice Channel. To answer your question about the drive. It's not unlike a guitar amplifier. You can drive the signal into the preamp tube which increases the distortion. It also increases the loudness.
Hi Joao, I think I'd first reach for the Behringer for a voice recording. The ART Voice Channel offers more fine tuning and better build quality. In my opinion, the increased price of the Voice Channel doesn't offer a substantially better sound.
Thanks for posting the video. This got me thinking. Why would a VO need a pre-amp with a drive/de-esser/enhancer/expander when the client is asking for a clean file or a file you can process with your DAW? Or would you say you don't need the plugins on the DAW when the file has been recorded using a pre-amp like this model?
Hi Dennis, Great question. A unit like the UV1 or the DBX 286s is great for getting a processed sound in real-time (live) on a budget. These types of units assume that your room is professionally treated and offer the best sound if they are. In my opinion, the quality that can be achieved with post-processing plugins is much better. If a client has hired you and is asking for a clean file, I'd send them a clean file. I'd always give the client what they are asking for. However, your sound is then in the hands of their producer or engineer. I understand that a completely raw file may not "sound" great. In those cases, I use a parametric EQ to balance the frequencies to correct any issues resulting from room resonances. My custom processing package includes a "tone only" version for just that situation. It's common. I hope that answers your question.
Thanks for the information, I am very much a newb and looking start book narrating ....if I were using this would a dedicated audio interface be required to connect to my pc using USB and Hindenburh narrator? Sorry if this question is too 'newbie'.
This unit brings a lot of value, specially considering it is both a processor and an audio interface, matching its price to a Xbox 286s plus the audio interface makes quite a difference.. one question I have is: with a audio processor like the 286s or the art voice channel, does the audio interface preamp matter? Or the bit depth for the recording even?
@@HeyLennyB Hi Lenny, thank you for replying, I apologize for not formulating the question properly. What I mean is, when using a unit such as the DBX 286s as the microphone preamp, and then outputting that to an audio interface, does the preamp of the audio interface matter(my scarlett 2i2 gen3 is currently at zero and reaching the -20~ -12Db levels)? also, does the bit depth of the interface matters in this scenario? I'm currently set up to 24bit/48KHz. I have a Shure SM7b, Rode Procaster and one AT2020. Dynamic mics have use a fethead.
@guido oliveria To get the best quality, use the "Line In" input on your 2i2. When you the the XLR jack on the front of 2i2, a mic level preamplifier automatically engages. So you want to make sure you use a TRS cable from the "Line out" on the DBX to the 1/4 in input (not the XLR). Then make sure the "Line" button is engaged on your Focusrite. Then, I believe the gain level knob on the Focusrite is bypassed (turning it shouldn't do anything). However if it does work, keep it all the way down. Let me know how it goes.
Im on the fence with these two units, which one to get. My use case is essentially making my live sound better in a work situation for zoom meetings, mainly and attenuate some background noise at the same time. Software would be more hassle for me bc On my wok computer there is no audio stuff. Im using a Rode VideoMic pro because I dont want gear to be visible on the camera. So, the dbx sounded more "broadcast"-y to my ears, more rounded low end, but the highs are not my cup of tea., but it cuts through. The behringer is pretty good as well, but feels flatter, although the features it offers might make up for that. In Europe these two units are the on the same price. about $180 retail. Leaning towards the dbx, bc I dont need the interface and the headphone amp section, so for the same price the rest of the feature should be better on the dbx...
Hello Lenny, Thanks for the great review ! I have a guestion to you. I am an amateur singer and dont have the experience in sound like many others. Can i use the UV1 for live performance ? If no can you give me some tips ? Any recommendations of what i need to have an "ok" sound ? Egualiser maybe ? with compresion ? Thannx in advance for any answer :)
Yes, the UV1 or the DBX 286s can be useful for live singing as well. I know the DBX is popular for analog mixing boards. However, modern digital mixers have the processing power of the UV1 and the DBX 286s on every channel. Check out the Presonus digital mixers. I have a 16R that I use for my live band. It's awesome and liking having 16 DBX 286s units and more. www.sweetwater.com/store/search?s=Pesonus+Digital+mixers
Hi Dennis, I'd have to listen to your audio before I could give you an answer on this. Feel free to send me a clip and I'll do my best to make a suggestion.
I have gone through 3 DBX units. All develop noise over time, then sound awful unless I gently pound top of unit. I'm tired of it. Will this be more reliable do you think? Anyone else had reliability issues with their 286s? I'm tempted to get this UV 1...as long as it sounds comparable...as when the DBX works, it's amazing.
The DBX 286 units are great, but they only last a while. I have had the same experience as you describe: They last a year or two, then they die. I would expect the UV1 to be the same.
@HeyLennyB so to clarify, the UV1 to have same issues? What about a symetrix 528E if I find one? I may have a rare lead on a new unit. Will those last do you think?
I can't say for sure, but I would expect the components in the UV1 to be similar to the DBX286s. I wouldn't bet on the Symetrix, either. If you find a (rare) unused unit, its components are still old because 528E has been discontinued for years. Heat is the enemy of units like the DBX 286s. The more you can keep it cool during use, the longer it may last. Also, (software) will likely last longer than these hardware units. You may consider processing inside the computer instead.
Hi,Lenny. it's an awesome videos that you made and helping us to understand more about the Beringer UV1. I am also curious about whether the UV 1 can also act as an audio interface that use in live streaming environment? I will have multiple inputs into my x32 mixers and having one output to the uv1, then having the uv 1 to import singles to the live streaming platform (zoom, for example.) and i can also have the playback from zoom to my mixer through the output channels from the back of uv 1?
I decided to do this because I would also have some vo production work. I can save a bank of bucks to buy the umc 1820 if UV1 can fulfill the need in both vo production and livestreming. thank you
I don't see why not. You'll just need to send the playback from the zoom to a sub channel that doesn't feed back to the stream, or you'll get a feedback loop. Any interface should work. It all depends on if your streaming software can recognize the interface.
With the DBX286 286 you have to go through an audio interface like the Scarlett or MOTU units which output to USB. The UV1 has its own built in USB interface. These two scenarios would be great to compare. I don't think you mention how or what you are going into for recording, nor what app you are recording with.
I'll do my best to help you. First, I need to hear your audio sample. Please fill out the form and follow the instructions to submit an audio example here www.lennyb.com/get-your-voice-processed-submission-form
The real test is using this processor with a Shure SM7B which needs a lot of gain. My DBX 286a won't really give it the oomph it needs, so I have to run the 286 through a Scarlett Solo which allows for more gain...but will the UV1 give it the needed gain seeing that it is outputting to USB. Of course you could run the line out to a Scarlett, but that sort of defeats the advantage of the UV1 over the DBX.
You may be experiencing noise and lower quality because you may not be using a mic booster (like a Cloudlifter or sE Electronic's Dynamite Active in-Line Preamp) on your Dynamic Microphone. Dynamic mics can work wonderfully for voice-over, but microphone activators are required for dynamic microphones. A good clue that this may be an issue for you is when you find it necessary to turn your interface gain all the way or nearly all the way to get a good recording level. The mic booster will resolve this problem.
Thanks, I think I will stick with condenser mics. I just purchased the UV1 and I can't wait to compare it with my dbx286a made in the USA, which I purchased about twenty years ago, with a Heil PR40 which is old school. If the UV1 USB is as good as reported then I'll have to sell my MOTU M2 and Scarlett Solo.
I actually prefer plugins for best sound quality. Units like the DBX 286s and the UV1 are best if you need processing in a live situation. Similar channel strip hardware units (that may offer better quality preamps etc..) usually being at about $600 and go up from there.
Thank you for the informative video, do you believe that this is the best solution in the market for someone on a budget like me that just wants good sound for his tech tutorials?
I think that is what it is exactly. You can't get those features in any hardware for any cheaper (as of now). The question is, will you want to upgrade at some point? It's likely. Thanks for watching Abderrahim.
Hey Magic Cyclops. I LOVE hardware. I will be doing more videos in the next few months and hardware will be in many of them. What hardware unit would you love to see? Are you thinking a VO walk through? Thanks for reaching out!
Behringer UV1 is a good solution, just a pity that the xlr microphone input is on the front. it would have been nicer if it was at the back, and the cables are better organized.
Hi Nightmaaron. I think I'm going to offer that type of set up as a service. I'm getting tons of requests for this. BTW, I got sucked in and watched almost all of your Charles The Spider Train video. 🤦♂️
@@HeyLennyB you totally should! I was mostly used to recording in studio. Now I am doing most of it at home and I’m trying to learn how to use some of this equipment I’m not accustomed to using lol! Hahaha I am glad you enjoyed it then! Lol. Was really a fun game!
Would you be willing to send me a sample of you voice without the UV1 in the chain (disconnected)? Please fill out the form and follow the instructions to submit an audio example here www.lennyb.com/get-your-voice-processed-submission-form
Do you have problems with floor noise? There is so much noise when I increase the gain. I even have an excellent electricity filter to produce cleaner energy. I am not sure why. Do you have that problem? I know then I can set a noise gate, but the problem is that you can hear the loud noise when you speak. The moment the noise gate opens, the noise is combined with the voice and sounds very weird. I am so disappointed so far.
@AranzamendiPodcast, it looks like you're using an SM7B. Dynamic mics like the SM7B are better for broadcasting if you are much closer (4 to 6 inches) to the mic. That will improve the noise/voice ratio. You might also try a mic activator.
Not having a power button on my DBX 286's (and the DBX 1231's) is when I power on/off the rack everything in the rack goes on/off. I guess the ones that want the power switch is the home studio folks which is okay too. Good layout Sir. 👌🏽
I am 10 seconds from selling my dbx286s and Behringer UMC202HD and getting this model. The ONLY thing I would say that is a detractor is the support/service for Behringer. They have somehow decided to outsource support for this to MUSICTribe and they produce a great vacuum (to put it lightly.) Sent in a unit to them back in November and never showed back up here. FF to February - I asked for a refund and they wanted my bank account info? He'll no. Send me a check or venmo or PayPal me. I AM NOT going to send you my bank account info. No Way. Bear in mind for all who reads: This comment is solely against MUSICTribe and not Behringer. Behringer products are great.
Music Tribe has HORRIBLE customer service. Horrendous. They support Klark Teknik gear and they're so bad I sold off my Klark Teknik gear and paid extra for Warm Audio which is here in US and excellent gear and customer service.

@@HeyLennyB Thank you.
Yea I was thinking the same thing. I prefer the sound of the DBX
@HeyLennyB Thanks for your response, man.I might opt for the barrenger because it's also a sound card interface
Exactly what I needed 🖖
Lovely video. May you please review the Art MP/c preamp kind regards
Hi @seanloctv, I'll try to do that for you. Thanks for watching.
The disturbing thing about the Behringer UV1 is that the XLR microphone input is on the front.
it would have been better if it was at the back.
Hi Lenny. I went ahead and got this unit inspired by your video. It works great. I can hear and tweak everything, but for some reason I can not see the signal in my DAW (Logic 10) I selected it as my i/o but can't record. Would you happen to know what could be happening? I am using it as an interface as well.
Hi @hayuro, can you explain what connections you're using?
@@HeyLennyB Hi Lenny. Thanks for responding so quickly. I fixed the problem. I needed to activate the microphone from Logic. It is a new computer with a new software and that never happened before. Again, thank you for your prompt response.
Thanks for this. I'm really not sure which I prefer, they both have pros and cons to the sound, but both look a bit sad next to that Shelford :D
Does the UV1 USB port output stereo/dual mono sound? Or is it just mono like the dbx 286s?
Hi Tony, I believe it's only mono.
@@HeyLennyB I understand
Behringer UV1 is like a full-fledged sound card and it is not necessary to connect another card to it
but if we imagine that the Behringer UV1 and dbx 286s are the same devices, what does connecting the dbx 286s to a sound card provide?
Thanks Lenny
wonderful stuff... Can someone tell me if this UV1 can be used for recording vocals for music videos ?
@@HeyLennyB Thank you very much! I'll take a look at them
Do you like best the Behringer or that ART Voice Channel you got right above? And why
Hi Joao, I think I'd first reach for the Behringer for a voice recording. The ART Voice Channel offers more fine tuning and better build quality. In my opinion, the increased price of the Voice Channel doesn't offer a substantially better sound.
@@HeyLennyB Thank you for your reply. Would be nice to see a comparison video between both
Hello, good evening!
Do you have the schematic for this equipment that you could provide to me (dbx286s)?
Thank you very much.
@@HeyLennyB yes it does! Thank you very much. I have both units by the way and I prefer the UV-1 as it has the clean USB out.
Thanks for doing the comparison at the end. I thought the DBX sounded a little warmer and smoother. Which one do you prefer?
LOL, I've been expecting this question. I own both of them. I believe I prefer the sound DBX just a little more. It may be because I'm use to it.
I prefer the sound of the UV1 better. It sounded tighter and less of that aural swirl in the depths.
Thanks for the information, I am very much a newb and looking start book narrating ....if I were using this would a dedicated audio interface be required to connect to my pc using USB and Hindenburh narrator? Sorry if this question is too 'newbie'.
No. The UV1 is also the audio interface. 👍
Hi Guido, I'm not sure I understand your question. Can you elaborate?
I'm so thankful for this video, so Thank You Lenny B! I think I'll get one. Do you have any affiliate links?
Is this similar to the DBX with a volume button 😮
Hello Lenny,
Thanks for the great review !
I have a 31 band EQ in the insert. If you did this would you still use the enhancer or just use the 31 band EQ?
Hi Dennis, I'd have to listen to your audio before I could give you an answer on this. Feel free to send me a clip and I'll do my best to make a suggestion.
Is there any lock on the xlr input? Would you say its reliable for a live vocal rig?
Good question. No, there's no lock on the front mic input.
Hey Lenny . I use a m audio producer usb for voice overs . Would you create a preset for said mic ?
I'll do my best to help you. First, I need to hear your audio sample. Please fill out the form and follow the instructions to submit an audio example here www.lennyb.com/get-your-voice-processed-submission-form
I have the older Behringer VX2000 have you had any experience with that unit? It's a great used buy if you can find one.
Thanks! I haven't. I'll see if I can find one.
I noticed a peak at 103 Hz with a Q of 14. Took it down 3db. Also the dbx needed de-essing.
For voicie over, do you prefer UV1, or another 180€ audio interface? Thanks a lot!
I wish you could go more into hardware rack stuff for a studio seems like you got a bunch of gear.
Hey Magic Cyclops. I LOVE hardware. I will be doing more videos in the next few months and hardware will be in many of them. What hardware unit would you love to see? Are you thinking a VO walk through? Thanks for reaching out!
I don't like the DBX 286 S, because it doesn't have an on/off button
IDK... i like the sound coming out from the DBX...
Behringer UV1 is a good solution, just a pity that the xlr microphone input is on the front.
it would have been nicer if it was at the back, and the cables are better organized.
Can you run a mic to the input in the back? It might not be an XLR, but a xlr to qtr input, would that work? I have the same issue.
Unfortunately, no mic input on the back of the UV1
I would love to have a chat with you setting this up better with my studio and Neumann tlm103
Thanks 🥹
Not having a power button on my DBX 286's (and the DBX 1231's) is when I power on/off the rack everything in the rack goes on/off. I guess the ones that want the power switch is the home studio folks which is okay too. Good layout Sir. 👌🏽
Hey Nick, I think you're right. Thanks for watching !
the **dbx** unit sounds crisper and much beefier.
ultravoice won !
The only problem with it for me is that it has no monitor output ☹️
It has monitor output
the DBX sounds much nicer to me.
A copycat of 286s... But dbx remains the rule.
Symetrix 528E wins
Beringer is good at design but poor at building quality.
Agree Behringer makes some great gear. They messed up outsourcing it to Music Tribe
