Great info Johnny. I've been charging by the Bush & Shrub size for years. It makes it easier for the customer to understand. My price includes everything towards the cost of doing business down to the bag. I see alot folks get into this business and not charge appropriately. Great work. Gracias!
Good advice. I suggest beginners start with small projects with friends, family and neighbors. Keep good records of each task, recording time and conditions of shrubs. This will become your baseline of reference for future work.
Your content is a1. I have been following your videos for years! As a young black woman, your videos and information have given me so much more information! Watching your videos have given the tools for a successful business starting landscaping! You give the formula! Thank you and keep the content coming no one else on UA-cam in this field gives the details!!
Johnny, thank you for your videos! I just started my lawn care business a few months ago. It is already growing. I just priced a shrub trimming job at $50/hour. I was worried I under sold the service abut after watching this video I feel better. Thank you, keep up the great videos and I’ll keep watching and 👍.
I normally charge $35 an hour per man on site, and I add 1 hour to the total hours worked on property to cover equipment, travel/loading, office maintenance, and taxes. Also if owner wants to dispose of the material I charge $40 per dump run on top the hourly price to cover hauling time / off load.
I don't have a business. I come here to learn your techniques and love watching how you do what you do. Your videos are my stress relief. 😊 I do love how you share your business skills with those who have a business. Blessings to you and yours.
My minimum to show up at any trimming job is 225$ regardless of the amount or size of the shrub/s. Talk about some easy money 😃. Never charge by the hour!!!! You’re taking money out of your pocket !! The trimming in the video is a 400$ job in my area of Michigan. By the hour would have taken 300$ from the bottom line. We’re in this to make good money guys and gals. It can be demanding hot work. Get paid accordingly!!!!! Nice video. Thanks for sharing
I charge by the hour for trimming shrubs, much easier, though I charge one price for using power equipment, and another price for just ordinary physical labor, like clean up. I don't like it when people ask me to estimate a price for trimming bushes, because even after 30 years in business I honestly I don't know how long it's going to take, and I hate to underestimate. Mowing is different, because I can estimate by the size of the yard and how much edging, string trimming and blowing I foresee, what price I need to charge.
The problem is I have been charging per hour, but I have become super efficient doing this 13 years. Busting out big jobs in two or three hours and then feeling like I didn’t get enough money for the work. Been charging $75 an hour for a few years now.
Had to give a estimate today for 28 shrubs. 20 small ones and 8 large ones. The total is $720. Charging $20 for each small one and $40 for the large ones. This price is for Trimming/cleanup/dump fee. I usaully just stick to mowing. But trimming shrubs pays well. I'm also located in Iowa if anyone else is from Iowa. I hope the pricing I listed can help some newer guys out. I will trim them twice a season. Spring time in April then before fall probably the end of September. $1440 for the season for shrubs I'll take it.
Good advice..mowing lawn s is obviously more frequent than pruning and price should reflect on the frequency of services offered one thing to also consider sharpen of pruners as part of operation costs along with operation costs easy to not figure in little details expense that are incurred in doing business
I am currently charging 30$ for man hour and I feel like that’s a lot . I think I can definitely charge more as my business grows and expenses grow. !!! Great video I also need that attachment you have for my pas225 echo
I charge 65.00 per hr for power equipment pruning. Additional costs for clean up and disposal per cubic yard. In the event in fall corrective pruning instead of maintenance pruning varies on shrub size if you can figure your clean up labor including the labor of clean up it simplifies the billing and keeps less line items which inturn creates less line and looks like less items on a invoice to the customer
It's the same as auto work on the book, you did the job before- took 2hrs but now u hav a 600$ hedger,it takes 1hr,still charge for 2hrs-clean up cost less
Great video Mr Johnny I just charge by the hour. It's just easier for me to keep up and in my area it scares away aggravating customers 🤣 when I tell them by the hour pricing. It makes room for good customers that want a professional job and not a cheap hack job lol👍🏽
I include the clean up n disposal in the shrub charge. Also leafy shrubs are cheaper n easier than evergreen. Make sure n add on for inside mulch n light lava rocks cause ya cant blow it out well.
thanks for the video man i want to start my own hustle i have 2 riding lawnmowers one is a husqvarna 54” cut and the other one is a troybilt bronco 42” cut i have 2 weed eaters 2 blowers 1 edge trimmer i have a total of 6 batteries for this items plenty of power for a job or 2 i also have a blower backpack ryobi 40v i do plan on getting some kind of zero turn and all gas equipment eventually but i haven’t even start doing it because i work to much at my real job i’m a chef but i want to move forward with this job thanks i love watching your videos
👍.I know how to but I've done that type of work for so long I'm a little bit burnt out on keep doing it but what makes myself keep doing it is that it makes the person property look better from the road plus the bushes look better to. How many hornet nests have you ran into while trimming or wasp nests I have 4 times in my years of that work
Really informative video and on top of that, beautiful presentation of shrub trimming. Thanks Johnny and have a blessed Thanksgiving weekend. Take care and stay safe 😀👍
I recently was asked to mow for a new client and they wanted the bush's trimmed on the following visit they lost their cool once I said it would be 8 to 12 a bush/shrub they had said the guy they had mowing before never charged for trimming them. I wanted so bad to say and that's probably why he quit on you so abruptly. I have a feeling I want to back out already because the customers are over complainers
So I’m curious. If I charge by the hour, how do I sale pitch the customer that? Because the first thing they’ll ask is how much per hour. And how long will it take?

How often are bushes trimmed per season? do you select the amount or the customer?
It depends on the shrub and no I educate the customer on trimming schedule depending on their end results
Typically how often do customers get shrubs trimmed ? In general
