Everyday is a struggle, everyday is a blessing❤ I always like to see the end of my day on the “up swing” tomorrow is a new day…Something to look forward to. Everyone has their Earthly struggles, perhaps that’s why we are here to fix them;) I’m dealing with stage4 colon cancer ( soooo many with darker feelings…I’m sorry) and I’m squeezing all my life in good days and hard ones…I’m thankful for everyone;) I’m in bed more then out. I have a wonderful neighbor Mrs. Gray…around 90:) and keeps me on my toes, not feeling sorry for myself. If I could give advice…keep picking yourself up off the floor, out of bed, outside…dust yourself off. I do like the powdered liquid IV’s, you can find at every drug store. Just keep trying !

I’m an ex addict and not getting clean for your kids is definitely selfish. No sugar coating…..If you want something you have to fight hard for it. You fight hard to get your next fix. Fight hard to get help for your sobriety. Your children NEED you! Not fair to them to not have a mother in their life full time. They didn’t ask to be brought into this world. Get your life straight before your children lose their mother. You know how hard that would be on them? Your still young, beautiful and have a whole life ahead of you to do great things! You can do this!!

Keep your head up, it’s the most difficult battle you will ever face. I hope your wishes/dreams come true.
I have been and addict since 14 yo, I’m 43 now. I had significant clean time but relapsed 7yrs ago. I am fortunate to have a safe place to live. I raised my children when I was sober. They are now grown and thriving. I lost my son on NYE2020 to a fentynal OD. I have spiraled since then, should never have been him it should have been me. It has been so difficult to get sober. There is no protocol to detox us safely from the Tranq. Moreover, the protocol for detox is a one size fits all approach. I have not been able to find a place that caters your detox to you. I have been taken out on a stretcher because the detox is unable to keep me stable. My BP skyrockets to 220/180+, HR stays around 170 and the vomiting is uncontrollable which messes up my electrolytes. I believe that many of us would push through being uncomfortable but when detox is this dangerous and medical staff can’t manage it, we resort back to what puts us at our homeostasis.
Caroline keep positive. People like you will help others prevail.

What she's saying is so important!
To keep sending homeless people to rehab is just a total waste of time and resources. If that person has no safe, long term living arrangement, there's no chance whatsoever that they're going to stay clean.
    That's just common sense.
Who on earth could stay clean on the streets?
You're in danger and on edge constantly.
I mean, I'd guess most homeless people have PTSD.
It's like a was zone out there.
People should be offered long time treatment. And half houses and then sober living housing as long as they want or need until they themselves feel stable enough to live on their own.

Mal, thank you for your continued love, care and work you do. It’s so sad such human beings are stuck in addiction. Only if we could wave a magic wand to take it all away and give these people a drug-free productive life. The closest thing that could be done is for citizens to vote differently for politicians who will enact much better policies, ensure funds are spent on resources that actually help people get OUT of addiction, provide mental health services, job training and jobs, low-rent “recovery housing” communities where there are comprehensive services including residents working on-site jobs, stop the flow of drugs, build better communities and ensure great opportunities for children and parents, and help grass root groups/organizations and Individuals like you so that you can continue your great assistance that you provide. As it is now, it’s in an emergency state and minimally- clean and safe bathrooms should be placed around the area, a program for users to pick up needles and trash off of the ground should be implemented to keep Kensington clean and litter free, and additional resource and medical facilities need to be opened and fully staffed, including wound care and treatment for withdrawal so people can comfortably go into a rehabilitation facility. This is the 21st century- we can send a man to the moon, we have developed a near cure for HIV, we can transition men into women (?), supposedly men can now have babies and “chest” feed. So, why can’t the medical and pharmaceutical sector create something to erase the withdrawal symptoms??????? And, why can’t something be developed that is a safe alternative to the illicit and addictive prescription medication - something that can produce a feeling of well being but that keeps a person focused, productive, safe, clean and whole?

@@amargacanica1042 What I don't understand ~ everyone says what you said. Most citizens don't agree with 75% to 90% of what our state & federal government is doing. We vote for them & outnumber them. There's something obviously wrong. I'm not suggesting I have a solution. I just see a huge problem while most folks are squawking over whatever is put in front of their face.

Often when addicts are asked what their biggest fear in life is they answer having their death explained to the children they leave behind. I suggest a reframing of that mindset to reflect the reality that their continuing in addiction will more than likely result in their children's following in their footsteps. A truly selfless addict would understand that dynamic, it is afterall the reason why you ask them to tell you about their childhood.

All of these people who aren’t too deep have a chance to get out. Everyone else I feel has no chance. With the tranq and the wounds. How do you have a chance to go to treatment if you can’t go in with sores and you have you detox and treat sores first. I fear all those past this aren’t getting out

    We all need help.
    Laundry List
The Laundry List - 14 Traits of an Adult Child of an Alcoholic
We became isolated and afraid of people and authority figures.
We became approval seekers and lost our identity in the process.
We are frightened by angry people and any personal criticism.
We either become alcoholics, marry them or both, or find another compulsive personality such as a workaholic to fulfill our sick abandonment needs.
We live life from the viewpoint of victims and we are attracted by that weakness in our love and friendship relationships.
We have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility and it is easier for us to be concerned with others rather than ourselves; this enables us not to look too closely at our own faults, etc.
We get guilt feelings when we stand up for ourselves instead of giving in to others.
    We became addicted to excitement.
We confuse love and pity and tend to “love” people we can “pity” and “rescue.”
We have “stuffed” our feelings from our traumatic childhoods and have lost the ability to feel or express our feelings because it hurts so much (Denial).
We judge ourselves harshly and have a very low sense of self-esteem.
We are dependent personalities who are terrified of abandonment and will do anything to hold on to a relationship in order not to experience painful abandonment feelings, which we received from living with sick people who were never there emotionally for us.
Alcoholism is a family disease; and we became para-alcoholics and took on the characteristics of that disease even though we did not pick up the drink.
Para-alcoholics are reactors rather than actors.
    Tony A., 1978

Do you know if many children of alcoholics are diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD?
Because this description to me looks a lot like the traits of a person with BPD.
