Sally I always mean to leave a comment but never do. I always enjoy your videos as I really like your style. You are a very mindful sewer and that is what I am now trying to be. Your classic look is very on trend this year. Keep up the good work.
Great post…I love that garment rack behind you. I find it really helps be able to mix and match garments and easily see what you have verses behind a closet. You are always so thoughtful with your makes and it produces a classic timeless collection. Like you, I tend to see others mix prints and find it challenging to do myself. That said, I love the floral skirt with the striped top on you. I was also more of a fan with the Marnie paired with the beige top overtop than stand alone. That Marnie is absolutely gorgeous, I just love it tucked in. It was actually because of your earlier post on the Marnie that I ended up picking up that pattern. Lastly I did not realize silk had a temperature regulating control! Great vlog!!
This is a really comprehensive collection of outfits. It is very good to think about complete outfits father than just making up fabrics and patterns that catch your eye
I like the stripes with the floral This video really shows what a great job you do of sewing a cohesive, wearable collection of garments that incorporate so well into your existing wardrobe
I loved this video Sally. I also loved that you combined me-mades with ready-mades. It would be wonderful if we all had the time (and patience) to make absolutely everything in our wardrobe but not many of us can say they do that! Thank you for keeping it real. 🙏🥰
I always feel a bit nervous including ready to wear items but that is definitely my reality so thank you for your comment :) I'm so glad you enjoyed the video xx
I think it’s refreshing to see a video like this even if you only do them every now and then. I think it provides inspiration for outfit ideas, colour and styling choices. And even though there are others who do videos on certain garments, not many do this kind of video that provides inspiration for the season. I’m not in spring right now but still watched it. It was great! And I think that latest Marnie blouse has to be my favourite!
It was lovely to see me made and rtw styled together. As your not sure of a blouse and skirt together you could try it with a belt. This might break it up enough for you to. like it.
Wow… have I been inspired by this video! Since I viewed initially 10 days ago, I have purchased a khaki trench coat (love it) and two stripy knit fabrics - one yellow and white, the other an ombré blue and white (I don’t usually like stripes) to make a couple Breton-style tops. I also thrifted a very nice quality taupe colored briefcase-style bag, I have a pair of new blue flat loafers on order, and I think I am going to get the Dawn jeans pattern. You struck a spark for me. I really liked how you put outfits together. Thanks for sharing this.
Sally what a super video. Full of great ideas and everything is perfectly styled. You are very clever. I love the way that you perfect everything and mix and match so well. Brilliant 💕
I really enjoy this type of styling video! And especially combining your sewn pieces with themselfs and with RTW clothes. And as you showed it gives you a good idea of what you are missing and want/need to sew to make your wardrobe work for you and last a long time. And I really love the combination of your mustard stripy top with the floral skirt! 10/10 if you ask me ☺️
I love the striped top with the floral skirt on you! I also thought the blazer over the white tee and skinny jeans looked very nice, too! I love how floaty your Marnie is! Making it in all white was really smart! It's so versatile. I also love your Anna Allen Anthea and your Dawn jeans! This video was super inspirational!
Great video Sally. Love the combinations. I have a few ready to wear pieces in my wardrobe and I only buy really well made and robust ones. I like your combinations very much. You said that Lily silk items were affordable but when I looked the shirt is £125 at the moment which is rather a lot for me And I’m not sure that would wear that or the cashmere top on the school run. I know that fabrics have also increased in price from when I started sewing but I couldn’t justify the spend.
Thank you for watching 😊 I think I meant affordable in comparison to other silk/cashmere costs. Definitely not an everyday buy - more of an investor piece 😊 x
I loved this styling video! It is one thing to be able to make your own clothes but quite another to know how to style them so very helpful to see some ideas of how you are able to mix and match a couple of items. Thank you!
What a lovely video - thank you for taking the time to put it all together. I’ve previously followed a tutorial by Contour Affair to make a bias cut skirt. She has loads of free tutorials on her website and you just need your waist and hip measurements. I drew mine out paper and now I have the perfect pattern 😊
Maybe try the Indigo skirt pattern by Mood? It’s free! I made it, it’s on the bias and really nicely flared. Otherwise there’s a Tessuti pattern for bias skirt.
The tucked in blouse or Breton tee, with jeans or wide leg trousers was my "uniform" when I was younger, and I would still be dressing in them, but with age (I'm 63), my body has shifted. I've always had a shorter body in proportion to my long legs (and I was almost 5'10"), but now that I'm older, the leg/torso length difference is even more marked. I really had no bust until I had my son, which worked in favour with my short torso, but then went up to a D cup after he was born, which has drooped somewhat with age, as happens with everyone, and also my spine has compressed with age too, so I've lost height in my body. And now with those changes, my waist is almost even with my lower ribs. I have about 1 finger width of toom between my rib and waist. So if I tuck things in, I look like I'm wearing my waistband around my ribs, just under my bust. So frustrating. Not a look I enjoy. So I have to wear everything untucked to even look like I have a body. I love your esthetic, and would definitely dress like that if I could. It's so classic, that it would look nice on any age person.
It is a Russian company so I personally cannot buy from them. Alexandra Arnold did a post on the origins of this company and how they are not transparent. Plus the last time I had a family member look at their site it was not secure.
I really like your videos and love seeing your makes and styling and knitting. I made the Jack Trench after seeing yours!!! I'm sorry for my negarive comment but I thought I'd share my thoughts ....I understand the need for income but the lilysilk ad stuff is very irritating ... it feels like so many brands are now infiltrating the great sewing channels with bags and shoes and ready to wear fashion ... a diversion to buying products rather than the making; it's sadly off putting. I'm here for your great me made inspiration and enjoy the leads to pattern companies or fabric or knitting even ready to wear items like your trench coat ... but no thanks if it's brand advertising xx
I'm so pleased to have inspired you to sew the Jack Trench and thank you for watching my videos. Regarding brand collaborations, please understand that UA-cam is work for me and the income helps to support my channel and allow me to make more and (hopefully) better content. I will only ever partner with brands I really love - believe me there are lots I turn down. If an ad isn't for you, you can always skip past 🙂 xx
I so look forward to your videos, but found myself fast forwarding for much of this one. I appreciate you need to have sponsors, but ready to wear on a sewing channel seems a bit odd. Also, silk production is so cruel.
Just a suggestion, why not just not watch the video? Perhaps you could take the time to put out a vlog on how to vlog? I am not being factitious, you obviously have very definitive ideas on what you think sewing vlogs should contain. Part of the reason vloggers try to collect as many subscribers as they can is to attract companies who will give them products to showcase on their vlogs.
Vloggers ask for feedback on their vlogs. Many viewers will just unsubscribe rather than comment, which is no help to the vlogger at all. Sally read my comment and can see that not many made the same comment, so she can ignore it and carry on. If many people had made the same comment she would have had the opportunity to make changes if she felt the need. I have commented on Sally’s videos many times and, apart from this one, my comments have always been 100% complimentary.
Sally I always mean to leave a comment but never do. I always enjoy your videos as I really like your style. You are a very mindful sewer and that is what I am now trying to be. Your classic look is very on trend this year. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, that is what I’m trying to be better at. I’m glad you enjoyed the video x
The striped top and floral looked great on you.
Thank you ☺️ xx

I really love your style. I hope to one day make my own wardrobe as sizing and style is hard to find to my liking
It can be can’t it! I’m sure you’ll be able to make your own wonderful handmade wardrobe 😊 xx
Lovely wardrobe of clothes you have. Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
Thank you! Have a lovely Sunday too xx
Love this video! Beautiful wardrobe ❤ for the bias skirt i would try the clobiais pattern 😍
Thank you for the recommendation I’ll have a look at that. Thank you for watching too xx

Look at the Viki Sews Sati skirt for a bias cut skirt.
Thank you for the suggestion 😊 x
This is a Russian company which I cannot support based on the ethics this nation has shown.
The Sati skirt from Viki Sews is Bias cut. I haven’t made it but it looks beautiful and is a better length than the tessuti one I made.
Thank you! I will look at that too, I've never tried a Viki Sews pattern, are they easy to follow? x
It is a Russian company so I personally cannot buy from them. Alexandra Arnold did a post on the origins of this company and how they are not transparent. Plus the last time I had a family member look at their site it was not secure.
I love your Cocoa tops and me made trench.
Thank you :) xx
Beautiful wardrobe! Where do you buy silk fabric?
Thank you! It’s hard to find pure silk fabric but I believe my fabrics.co.uk have some xx
Wonderful thank you! Ps - love the jeans you made.
All of Minerva links are not working in all your videos, at least for me they dont
I know :( They have just redone their website and all links no longer work. If you need something in particular let me know and I'll find it for you x

I’m sorry about that. However I have always been very open about the fact that I wear (and share) ready to wear clothes as well as handmade x
I don’t claim to be an expert in the production of silk but these are Lilysilks values regarding silk production www.lilysilk.com/uk/sustainability
