  • After the Seattle City Council unanimously approved the biggest property tax increase in city history, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell signed the legislation Wednesday.
The $1.55 billion, 8-year transportation levy would replace the expiring 2015 "Move Seattle" levy. The new transportation levy would increase the expiring levy rate by 70% on a median home.
Harrell signed the legislation into law Wednesday, which will place the transportation levy on voters' ballots in November 2024.

Maybe you should stop spending so much money on legalizing/normalizing drugs, crime, homelessness, and divert some of those dollars to your sidewalk project. When this is all said and done, nobody will even recognize that it has been completed, except by way of tax increases. Seattle, this needs to stop.

legalizing cannabis brings tax money in - it doesn't require government spending.
I do agree about crime and homelessness - which are both partially driven by the already high cost of living in Seattle. Levy's like this one should not be allowed. It'll only make things worse.

Maybe for once the people of Seattle will vote no on this.

Spending $111 million on new sidewalks when only $71 million is allocated toward road and bridge maintenance seems like flip-flop priorities!

The new sidwalks and extra-width sidewalks are a hidden way to divert funds to support homeless camping in new areas.

Stop spending the money we do not have! All you are going to do is push people out of city faster. It’s already damn near impossible.

Voters don't decide anything in Seattle, its king county elections not enforcing any voter's laws and counting every name that claims a ballot. More ballots than citizens. Just ask Sawant.

Building more and wider sidewalks means that is how they are going to deal with homeless camping solutions. These concrete camping platforms will get filled up with the homeless all over the city. In my opinion, the specification of wider sidewalks as well as new sidewalks in areas that are currently dirt means those low travel dirt areas will become homeless encampments. A sidewalk that is extra wide is basically a concrete pad onto which to place a tent.

Stop taxing home owners for road work. Need to make up lost revenue? (you know, for all of those "road diets" and bike lanes). Start taxing EVs for their usage on the roads and start licensing bicyclists.

Tenants will vote yes on this bill. Then the rents go up. And then they complain how unaffordable Seattle is and move.the cost of property tax and rent increases should be included . City council should break it down into individual projects. And the cost and then let the voters decide

1.5 billion divided by the population of Seattle (749,256 in 2022) = over $2000 per person per year.
Lets see Seattle eat their sidewalk.

Negligence is public responsibility and duties to support the infrastructure because of other irrelevant political issues may cost the city a decades worth of its GDP to bounce back from. People are just over everything.

They don’t care. They like spending other peoples money. They also are well off so they don’t care what happens to people living paycheck to paycheck. Did that Queen Anne sidewalk get fix that old lady got a 16million from. That should have been used to fix the issues.

We need this, please pass this law * I don't live in Seattle 😂 ( just saying, they should charge people passing by or goes into the city so it will be fair for the people who lives there
