- I've been making videos on illegal "invalid" accounts since May of 2020, and there's been quite a few of them at that. But for years now, I've been working with old accounts and old stories, since there hasn't been many new discoveries... until the start of 2021. Whether because of migration, or higher account prices, or simply boredom, new illegal usernames are popping up left and right, faster than anyone has ever seen. In this episode of Minecraft Uncovered, we take a look at the golden age of illegal Minecraft accounts.

Many of these accounts are in the hands of the original owner.
I have worked tirelessly to keep the community safe from account theft, creating entire videos on the subject.
I have spent days at a time helping individuals recover their accounts.
I have denounced the behavior of several account thieves and scammers.
I have made my stance on this matter very clear, and if someone cannot be bothered to research before criticizing me, it is simply not my problem.

When he says "acquired" he actually means "stolen", don't misunderstand new folks!
Usually, but not always. There's a variety of ways that accounts end up in the community, so I usually just say "acquired" to cover my bases. Plus, not everybody wants it public how they got an account, so it's out of respect for the current and original owners, as well.
@@mcbyt I was talking about the accounts in this video, all of the ones "acquired" were all brute forced into and were stolen, the original owners aren't even aware of that. You say "usually" but cmon be real, all the current invalids thay are active in the community are all stolen, you can't deny that.

The fact that there is a market for stolen invalid accounts is frustrating. Anyone who breaks into accounts to sell them should get a life.
True, but fortunately, the owners of these accounts are long gone, inactive for 10+ years in most cases. Not saying it's alright, but it could be much worse, so I'll count my blessings haha
2:29 the letters ı and İ exists in the Turkish alphabet and many Turkish people don’t realize those letters don’t exist in English so chances are both of these accounts are owned by Turkish people. (xEmrewarrıor is certainly Turkish, that’s a generic name for any Turkish player who grew up with the pvp community)

Can someone explain to me how they find these invalid names? This is all so interesting to me.
They use a UUID checker and have a whole list of UUIDs to old accounts, from my understanding they just run their checker and have it flag those UUIDs linked to usernames with invalid characters. The reason they keep these usernames so private after finding them is so they can brute force their way into it, steal it and make it their own and sell it, pretty much most of the people who discover them just do it do it to either sell, or for attention in a block game or both.

8 bits can be a max of 11111111 in binary, which is 255

yes as the name is not allowed ur doing a favor to mojang if its inactive people will guess and then go sell it you dont get hacked if ur not inactive or not invalid
The community is much bigger than that, but yes, a small subset focus their efforts on account theft

If you want to look them up, I suggest mcuserna.me. But there isn't any easy way to discover an invalid account, it takes a lot of research.

Yes, because I explained that in another video. But the way they were created? Someone clicked "create account" and used some weird characters in their name. That's it.

I don't like how you're just openly talking about stealing and cracking accounts. It's illegal and annoying to deal with. I had my account stolen and it took 2 months of talking with mojang support to get it back.
I'm well aware it's illegal, and I'm well aware it's annoying; I've had multiple accounts of mine stolen in the past. But I think that talking about it in videos is actually quite important; it publicly highlights the issue of security that needs to be addressed. In multiple videos now, I've even given tutorials on how to keep your account safe and secure, because the sad truth is that hackers won't ever stop hacking, and thieves won't ever stop thieving. It's up to the rightful owner to have good security, and I want to help them know that and learn how to do it.
