Been listening to this record a ton lately. It's aged really well. But I did discover TF LONG before Badfinger, Big Star and that magnificent Chris Bell record so I kind of did the power pop thing backwards. I'm nearly 42 and I still wear my pink Bandwagonesque shirt on occaision!
I'm an atheist and love Chris Bell’s album. Brilliant. I've been listening to Big Star⭐️ a lot lately. What kills me is that although I travel a lot, I live in New Orleans, and Alex Chilton did as well! He played at Chris Owens club in the late ‘80s. I was between 10 and 13 and getting into Velvet Underground, JAMC... I could have seen him (the club was on Bourbon St. & every club on Bourbon is entirely open. He died of a heart attack in 2010 due to no health insurance (he'd had heart pains early in the week but couldn't afford to go to hospital until the second time he had pains and was rushed to hospital. A brilliant musician dead due to the state of the Healthcare System in America.
because it’s not listed and has to be mentioned once again (shoutout everyone who has said this already): this video was directed by mark romanek, aka the man behind the nine inch nails’ closer, fiona apple’s criminal, janet jackson’s got til it’s gone and more recently, beyoncé’s lemonade. that same year he also did de la soul’s ring ring ring, which is also in black and white. funny how 2 years later, they would hook up with teenage fanclub for that tune on the judgment night soundtrack. what a time.
I first heard this song on the local alternative rock station back in the day. The station was on AM and my car radio would cut out every time I went under an overpass / by tall buildings. So I only got pieces of the song as it cut in and out. Ha, just repeating the verse/chorus, wtf!?! I LOVED it. Fan for life, they're still putting out great stuff. 18 years after I heard this song for the first time, I used it at my wedding as me and my groomsmen walked down the aisle.
Daí você tira o poder do algoritmo dessa Big Tech.
@kudiepie That means you haven't played it enough. lol j/k. But I remember messing with tapes.... like when the player would chew 'em up or something.... and I'd be so mad. Hard to even find a tape deck these days
I love the fact that this song is basically just a chorus
welcome to power pop!
But...one absolutely stupendous and gorgeous chorus
intro chorus chorus hook hook hook hook chorus chorus hook hook hook hook hook hook breakdown outro
But wot afuckin chorus
And oh, what a chorus!
Btw you guys should rememeber this was Kobain's favourite band
One of those rare, completely perfect pop songs that does everything it needs to in under 2.5 minutes.
and with only 2-3 parts
hard disagree
How does this not have a million views?! It's a 90s classic!
Because that. It's a 90s classic. We didn't have the internet yet when this was out.
@@alukuhito how about other 90s classics? Ñ
I'm Japanese. I'm looking forward to your live concert in Ebisu.
ティーンエイジファンクラブ、大好き!!!
ia like the part when they sing "What you do to me."
I'm in love with you, mentally and physically
This makes me yearn for the early 90s.
love the beatles esque drum set
very big star-ish. love it.
What they do to me . . . still make me smile, nearly thirty years on.

Getting into this band is hard because of the Big Star tropes but I’m doing ok now
A classic from the 90's powerpop renaissance!
Still one of those rare written/produced 10/10 songs ever made.
So great! Their most Sloan-like song IMO, a great thing👍
There's something about this song that reminds me of Don't let me down, hope I'm not the only one haha
Now that you mentioned it, I so totally agree!
The video feels like an illusion to that rooftop performance like the whole thing is so Beatleseque and I love it
Thank you Ben Gibbard for reminding me about this band and album. Now I have to find it again.
Is that a BIG STAR song? Well it is a bloody good tribute.
Absolutely Big star
Yeah, it’s a cover of a big star covering badfinger
@@TheRingleRizzler lol nice one
One of my high school favorite albums. Played it from beginning to end.
WOW!! It's a 90's classic!

2:02 At this point did the Groomsmen break out into a mosh pit and crowd surfed you to the front?
Love the ending - sounds like a tribute to AC/DC's Let There Be Rock.
prwtiger uhhhh no, I’ll say it just sounds like some standard tuned Sonic Youth riff. Saying it sounds like AC/DC is an insult lol
Bo
Looks Like Nirvana
It's one of their songs, "Satan"
@@dasdead yep total goo sounding sonic youth stuff if ya ask me
@@dasdead and they didn't need to do a weird tuning to sound Sonic like Sonic

The lady who is beautiful beyond words does this to me 🍯❤️💯🎯
I love the metal act they've done in the end. I know it's another song
What you do to me (times infinity)
There's something about you gets me down on my knees
What you do to me (times infinity)
Then brake down.

Quick perfection, but wait,
They were actually pretty huge back in their day...
Depois de 1 ano achei essa musica to felizao.

Luvvin ya work #BrendanTheDrummer. Luvvin the Christian sandals a little bit more!
Badfinger meets Big Star then meet the Ramones meets Nirvana in the final 25 seconds. Or something like that.
very nice of Jerry Cantrell to fill in on the drums for them!
@corundumone Just discovered them recently and really like them! Agreed. So many bands that just never get the recognition they deserve!
@kudiepie That means you haven't played it enough. lol j/k.

The World's End?
@gazzzgo I love this entire record, but you are correct. This track is under written and probably needs a bridge.
any recommendations on more 90s power pop bands that love Big Star? besides the Posies?
SimMaster ride?
SimMaster Wilco first album
Anything on the Big Deal label would be right up your alley. Check out Gladhands, Greenberry Woods, Chopper One, The Merrymakers
