I can't even begin to tell you girls how wonderful it is that you approached this Vogue Cover from the direction that you did! As a maker of colour I view you two as beacons in the knitting community. You make me proud to be a Canadian knitter and a knitter in general. Keep on being you, Babes. Big Knitter's Love from the South of France and Happy Holidays, Gazelle
❤️ thank you so much for being here!
You are right! This is a place where we share our love for knitting, not to judge people by the colour of their skin. I have dark skin so I am very grateful you brought it up! Thank You and Merry Christmas 🎄
❤️ Thank you so much for being here. Happy holidays to you too.
You both are delightful! Your convictions are shared by so many. You both brighten my day with your fun banter and your enthusiasm for knitting, and life!
The sweaters you two are wearing- looks so pretty and so together. So much peace seeing these sweaters on you both. Sincerely, Theresa Zhong
Hello Dear
How areyou doing today?
“Enough self stripes socks for now” said no one ever. Lol. Those hats are amazing ladies. Thank you for speaking up for the BIPOC community and using your platform unapologetically as an example for us all. Again, leading us to a better world. Be well ladies💞
Love the beginning of this video! You go! I must admit that part of the reason I watch you is for recommendations of makers and folks to follow.
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
Thank you for standing up, standing beside, standing in the gap. I stand with you 100%. I have followed the recent conversations with tears, with anger and with my heart.
Enjoyed watching, love that you shared all the designers and companies, this a great way that we’re introduced to companies that we haven’t been introduced to. Inspired to knit !
Megmade with Love - Rustic Christmas trees free crochet pattern
a grapefruit is really good to use for darning. loved this show, you girls are such an inspiration and really good humans.
I’ll bet they smell great too 😍
As a woman who's been knitting while black for 5 decades and a descendant of knitters, sewers and embroiderers, I salute you. Thanks for your tenacity and bravery in creating an inclusive community. 💜🧶
❤️ thank you for being here!
I love Tony Lipsey. She is amazing, I have been following her since almost the beginning. She has a new book out on Tunisian crochet.
I agree! She’s amazing. I have already ordered her book, and will share when it arrives. 😃
❤️👏🏼👏🏼❤️
Dear Tracie and Jodi, To have only mentioned the sweaters you two were wearing for this video- is an understatement on my part. This is a great video and totally pulled me into your company. I am watching it in my dining room/living room. This video feels like you two are actually in my home hanging out with me about the Grocery Girls Knit lifestyle. I enjoy your company's advocated lifestyle very much. I enjoy the enthusiasm of your planning for Christmas and the accomplished treats you've made. Enthusiasm for people of color is important. Thank you for caring. I look forward to making your company as one of my go-to shopping destinations for this Autumn/Winter holidays season. :) Jesus loves you. Sincerely, Theresa Zhong P.S. I am a professional Residential Counselor and very much enjoy it when people advocate for well established lifestyles. I really enjoy the lifestyle conveyed in your shop. Sincerely, Theresa Zhong
My trick for baking cookies at Christmas is, I mix up all the different cookie doughs and wrap them and put them in the refrigerator. Then I can bake them one after the other and have them all done. That way I don't have to start and stop and clean after each one. It goes so much faster that way.
Hello Sandra
How are you doing today?
I made the Grace pillow after you interviewed Denise. It turned out great and I have more yarn to do it again. Great gifts for anyone!
Yay! I’m enjoying the pattern very much 🧶
I followed and listened to this interesting and inspiring episode
Thank You. Peace and success always.
Thank you again for a lovely visit on a quiet Saturday evening. I had to wait until this morning to comment, as I needed to do my pre-surgery exercises, and we had a wonderfully long, full visit. I, too, was eager to buy the Vogue Knitting issue with Michelle Obama on the cover, as I was thrilled to see this wonderful woman had become a knitter. I was chagrined to yesterday learn of the controversy that arose after the release of the magazine. Thank you, Jodi and Tracie for stepping up and addressing this with openness and honesty. I am proud to consider you as friends, and appreciate your words. Keep on reminding us of the inequalities in our knitting communities and providing resources and guidance to help us all. 💛
Again, I need to check the show notes, you had so much to share, I loved everything 😘. And will hope to do something, the choices are so broad, the yarns so beautiful, and my knitting is so slow.
I received my fabulous order of new goodies, and gifts from your shop. I think the cute mugs will be great gifts 🎁 and be wonderful soup mugs as ❄️ blows across the plains. And I am eager to study Interpretations 8. Joji and Veera design such beautiful projects, and I love reading a great book with so much beauty and thought in it.
I hope to catch the Zoom next week, whenever you decide. Thursday might be a bit easier than Saturday for me. I’ll be looking for your message.
I hope you have a lovely holiday and a wonderful new year. Blessings to you and your families. 💛
Didn’t seem like three hours.... knit n natter is what it’s all about. Thank you for keeping me company today 💞
So true about cats. I love my cats and give them all the attention they want when they seek me out. They totally rule the roost 🤣
3 hours and 15 mins? YES PLEASE! I adore listening to you two while I’m knitting. I’m dying over the yarn you both got from Melissa’s new line. The colors are stunning! Jodi, you and your daughter are getting so good at your yarn dying. Thank you both for taking time out of your busy lives to share your knitting talk with us. 🥰
I would recommend Farmer’s Daughter yarn and her clubs! Sock Squad is the best! Also Wild Hand, a LYS (with an online store), that carries beautiful thoughtfully sourced yarn and notions and prioritizes directing resources to the BIPOC community.
❤️👏🏼👏🏼❤️
I love all the patterns: that's also a great gift to give someone: thank you. Lots of tutorials on sock darning. Love all you bring to us: amazing!
Thanks so much for the great idea ladies!
Love you guys. Thank you for standing with this! Onward!!!! Best wishes and good health for 2022. ❤️😎👍
I just bought Jodi’s Tuesday Hat pattern 2 days ago. I love it so much that I’ve knitted 2 hats already. Thank you for your great design!❤️
I recently learned to knit and LOVE it. I do try to support women in small businesses but especially women of color so I love that you've highlighted some creators that I didn't know about. As a black woman in America...just THANK YOU! Evil needs darkness to hide and shining a spotlight on it allows for acknowledgement and change. No need for shame or finger pointing, just learning and each doing our part therefore making this community that we all love better for everyone.
This was great company during our first big snow storm here in NS! Worked on sock tubes.
Loved every second! Watched the entire live! Love the sock blanks to see how the yarn looks knit up! Really hope you add the place to purchase those crochet trees to your show notes! ❤️❤️❤️😀
Thank you for bringing up supporting BIPOC makers and businesses. I love Tami Gore's designs!!
👏🏼👏🏼 we do too! Love her designs.
Thank you so much for making this an inclusive place! I love you both!
Always love you girls x 3hours?! What 3 hours. It’s all good to me. There are so many things on my wish list including 3 books. Thanks 😁😆😍
TOTALLY love your Christmas display. I dunno, not sure how you could both get any cuter. Love this break in my week. Hello from Prineville, Oregon!!
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
You two make the world a better place. Thank you.
Tracie, you will love City Lips, I’ve used it for years and it’s so hydrating. I don’t see a huge difference in lip fullness but for true moisture it’s the best!
I’m so late to the party, but hello from Moberly, Missouri! And I’m not surprised people come back from all over the world bc you all just bring JOY to us…info as well…munch needed guidance in knitting, but JOY!!!!
I finally ordered some To The Macks dk yarn to make socks and I couldn’t be happier! What a beautiful product 😊
I totally love EarthTones Girl. Her work with sock instruction and her love of her life, her knitting and the sharing of her art was phenomenal. I can (slowly) knit a sock due to her. So honored by you Denise. Am deeply appreciative of your help and appreciate your positivity. My class and you made a huge difference to me when going through the beginning of COVID and supervising a hospital lab. Sending lots of love.
I love Essence of Autumn. Her colour ways are so beautiful. I don't understand how she gets so much colour onto the yarn. It's amazing. Her Instagram is so inspiring to follow 💓
❤️👏🏼👏🏼❤️
Just bought a bunch of yarn, I’m so excited !! Love you girls. Happy holidays.
Couldn't help myself... 2 skeins of toadstool headed my way! :) Thanks for another wonderful episode, always wonderful visiting with you!
Its never to long a podcast when its entertaining...and it was so chat away!
I have been a big fan of Dana´s for a while, so your conversation today (on this episode) was very interesting to me. As a woman of color, I would agree with most of what you spoke on, and I thank you for doing so and for making a difference, for speaking up and out. This, today, was the impetus for me to subscribe.
So happy I just tuned in. Hello from Tampa Florida.
I’ve used the Bernat blanket yarn and I used 4 skeins to knit a blanket and 2 skeins for a baby blanket. Love it. It’s very soft. I’m going to have to try the pillow.
I just bought your Tuesday hat. I’m a loom knitter not needles because this pattern is done in the round I can knit it up as is with out doing any converting. Now I need to get Christmas gifts done so I can start on this. 😍
Hello Carol
How are you doing today?
love the decorations in background
I like saturday for the zoom... but also thursday works :) So excited!
Funny... the first thing I saw was those trees!! Love them!!
I just ordered two kits of magpie hat so my mom and I can have a knit-along on our trip to our family reunion. Mom gets panic attacks when traveling and I am hoping that knitting will calm her down.
Hi Jody I get cold sores a lot and what I use is cover girl foundation make up.And it helps a lot and will dry them up.😘
I’ve made two batches of your ginger cookies already this season! And they’re soooooo good! Rave reviews!
Love cat chat! In our house COL (cat on lap) is a legit excuse to get out of doing things!
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
Awesome podcast, awesome yarn colours TTM Yarnco. My favourite is Toadstool.
The little trees behind you inspired some last minute Christmas crafts.
Excellent podcast, as always, ladies. I will round up a couple of sheep for when you visit🤣 xxx
I love The Farmer's Daughter Fibers and Lady Dye Yarns (all the clubs with all of the makers).
❤️👏🏼👏🏼❤️
I love The Knitting Bartender. He is one of the best things to come out of New Orleans in forever.
I absolutely love you guys! I am attempting Aran knitting if a sweater from Ireland
I’m also so much more intentional about how/where I spend money. It makes a difference!
I love that you love the Obamas and I love your sensibilities. Plus you both are a hoot. Love your podcast.
I'm standing in the Gap right now. Can't find a sweatshirt I like. Here comes a saleslady.
Loved your podcast .happy holiday. Working on a Tunisian crochet scarf.
First time watching. I really enjoyed the variety of topics covered, so I subscribed. I've been knitting for ages, but I mostly knit basic socks these days. I loved the hand-dyed yarn that Jody and her family are producing, and will explore more of your links in a day or so.
I love all the cat chat :) I have two myself, and hours go by when they're in my lap and I just can't leave! Totally get it. Luckily they've learned to sit where I can at least still knit!
I so enjoyed this episode!!!! I so want to cast on a hat or thrummed mittens!!! Looking forward to seeing you soon!!!! Your cat chat makes me laugh. Of course we are ruled by our fuzzy friends 🥰
I haven’t purchased a basket because it has been on my Santa list.
I qualify for the zoom! Chin hair AND over 50 (58 😄)!
I’ve put woven patches and other darning on my husband’s socks. He can’t feel it. A few tips. I have started to make my husband use “Baby Feet” every other month to remove the dry skin from his heals. He had these crazy thick heals that I think wore out his socks. I also knit him more so there is a bigger rotation. Finally, when I knit his heals I hold the sock yarn double. He can’t feel it but it helps reinforce. For after thought I do the whole heal with socks held double. For a heal flap I just use double yarn for the little triangle where you turn the heal.
Great tips! Thank you
I cross-stitched two Xmas gifts and bought a magnifying glass/lamp, it is genius! Makes it so much easier and enjoyable.
The crochet trees are by Jessie of Inside The Paper Box 👍🏻
Thank you!!
Jodi, the Tuesday hat looks great on you. That light turquoise color looks so good on you.
Thank you. Just thank you. I truly appreciate your comments and sharing. ❤️ Master Classes are amazing. I will definitely look into the one you shared.
Just bought it cannot wait.
Loved it! Happy holidays! 🥰
Going to have to watch this in parts because kids, LOL. I am so jealous you have a wintery morning. I am sweating in FL, ugh! I moved her from VT and it’s so…different.
Great episode!! So many great BIPOC makers out there! I recently learned about Akara yarns. She’s from Canada. I don’t know why she doesn’t have a gazillion followers! Cheekbone beauty for makeup. Another great Canadian co!! My very favorite candles are Cantrip candles. He’s in LA. Best scents, top quality. They last forever. Based on DnD environment tropes but in a good way 😂 ❤️❤️
Jodi congratulations ! Your Tuesday Hat pattern is wonderful.
Jodie, our cat is so soft we compare everything in softness, softer than Barry, not as soft as Barry the cat!LOL
That’s awesome
Love this! My dad’s name was Barry so I don’t think it will translate well to my family 🤣 .
I can’t wait for the Grocery Girls Flosstube channel! 🪡😄
I’m excited about the zoom knit together. Thursday or Saturday both work for me. I’ll be checking out my chin hair in preparation.
Thank you for all your inspiration and positive podcasts during another tough year. You really deserve some time off but I have to say I missed a christmas episode in pj:s...
Thank you for standing up for my kids. You girls are amaz
ing!
❤️❤️❤️
Jodie I’d love to chat cats all day with you! Also FYI to any Canadians looking for the Vogue Knitting issue I actually found it at Walmart at the end of the crafting aisle.
And don’t ever be sorry for the long podcast! It is great to be able to stretch it out as I watch.
Love you guys
Urban Girl Yarns is an awesome dyer who makes beautiful yarn.
I order all of my yarn online. I don't know the color of the people who make the yarn. If I like the yarn, I buy it.
You don't get it.
Our weather here in Texas unseasonably warm. It was 27C here today.
Your TuesDay Hat is something I would wear Everyday of the week! It’s so beautiful Jodi!! Watched every bit over a pace of 3 days… missed the live. BTW Tracie, I repaired all my socks using Fruity Knitting (Mindful & Designer mending segment). As an Embroidery person you will definitely enjoy this method. Details in my Ravelry pages… just in case someone wants to see …. Sending blessings your way. 🥰🎄
Would vote for Saturday! I always watch, but never live because I’m working 😫
This was a great episode. I appreciate all your comments about BIPOC and diversity in knitting. I've followed Dana for a while. She is teaching with KnitStars Season 6! I also am dying to see something on Broadway again but with the rise in COVID cases, I'm still putting it off. Loved being able to see Hamilton on Disney+! Love your new hat Jodi!
So if you’re not ready for Broadway, you can still get an awesome musical-theater fix at your local movie theater watching the new West Side Story. It’s SOOOO good, and you don’t have to book a hotel room or travel to NYC.
I vote for Thursday! I have to work at our local food pantry on Saturday.
Saturday morning would be great for those of us who can't get away from work on a Thursday.
You both knit so many beautiful sweaters!! Would love to see, even just a pic, of the ones you knitted designed by black designers!
Sure! Here are those sweaters in our closets….Paloma, Turtle Dove, Turtle Dove II, Wave of Change Jacket, Wave of Change pullover, Night Blooms,…these ones are just the first that came to mind.
@@traciemillar thanks, I will be trying some of those!
Morning from Cardiff in Wales xx
A shout out for Bigger Than Life Knits (Noma Ndlovu) from South Africa. Also a prolific, talented knitter. Her patterns are available on Love Knitting and Ravelry.
If I owned a yarn shop, I would have a pet sheep
When you darn a sock, you feel the darned spot at first but it flattens down so you eventually don't feel it at all. I hate darning but i hate throwing out socks more because I LOVE my knitted socks. I threw out two pairs and it hurts me so much.
Thanks for this tip. I know what you mean…throwing away socks is a little heartbreaking
Please don't bring politics into a knitting group..I am really disappointed in this podcast.☹️
Your white kitty looks like a Turkish Angora. Can't wait to hear what it turns out to be.
Yes, I’m doing a happy dance!!!
I have mended socks and after washing them you don't even feel the mending patch.
You have GOT to see the Yarn Harlot's (Stephanie Pearl-McFee) tutorial on mending socks for your husbands holey sock! It's on her Patreon. I think it's her very first episode. I think this episode is worth paying for just one month!!
