It works! I got the key Fob from Car and Truck Remotes. I bought the 2018 Tacoma Fob. It was the same part number as the 2019 smart key Tacoma Fob. I bought the cable and software on Amazon and loaded it onto an old windows10 PC. I just programmed my first Fob. Cool.

I bought the cable from Amazon and there is a CD in the box, but no document or instruction on how to install the program and every time I ran Techstream it asked for New Key to register and there is no key#. I found out that Patch file on the CD is the one to run to avoid the registration key.
Awesome video! Did my key registration in seconds. I have a 2016 Lexus IS 200t and you have to select OTHER if you don't get the option to select smart key. It will take you to the utility for the key registration. This video is very straight forward and it was well put together.

Using Techstream program which came with OBDII cable, I could program my new key just as what the instructions was shown. So, it still works. However, to make the cable works, you need to follow the instructions came from CD exactly. You will need to copy included files to specific folder and install MVCI drivers from the CD. Those steps are very crucial. Local dealer charges way too much for key fob and programming.

Worked on my 2017 ct200h. The steps where diff there was no year or engine code or smart key option. It knew the car and vin I just chose the 1st thing in option on both sections. Then when you get to the yellow list choose entry & start. Then it will show a blank page then hit the utility button then the key code registration was there hope this helps also I just let the company that I bought the cable from remote load it on my laptop. From the disc you get from them you need to load the team viewer program then open it and send them an email with the with all the numbers that pop up when u open it for them to remote load it. You need to have the disc in your laptop and the cable hooked up to a USB port make sure it's a 2.0 not a 3.0 USB port I tried it on my new laptop and it would not work because of 3.0 USB. Hi, my key fob works but the tailgate button does not open the rear door. Its a 2013 Toyota higlander hybrid limited. All other ways to open the rear door work. Button from inside and.button on rear door to close it works. Do i need to reprogram the sam fob or just but a new key fob and program that? Thanks
Also, open the key fob and check if the logic board has any damage, rust or dirt. Try to press the button while key is taken apart. Sometimes the rubber pad wears out and buttons stops working.
The program doesn't allow for me to put in the "Smart Key Option" when inputting the vehicle information (I have a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid), so I put in "Toyota, Camry HV, 2007, and it automatically put in the engine, but it did not allow me to put in "Smart Key Option". Then in the next screen I clicked the Smart Key button, and it took to me to the screen where I was supposed to click "Utility", but there was no "Utility" button there. Please help :)

Everything works fine except the trunk in the Lexus and the liftgate in the highlander open buttons. I hold it down and nothing happens. When I use the original keys, the trunk and the liftgate open. I bought used keys that were reset by ebay seller so they were virgin. I checked the model numbers on the key and inside the key. They match. Any idea what the problem may be? I checked the "customize" section of the techstream and the trunk-open setting is set correct to open when the button is pressed for 0.8s, hence original keys do work in that mode. Does the trunk button have to be programmed separately? Appreciate the help.

I cant say for sure. TechStream says it is for North America VIN's only, but I don't see why it wouldn't for for Japanese cars if they use the same computers.

I am stuck at "Place the key on the Passenger Seat". Nothing happens when I place the NEW key on the FRONT passenger seat. It just times out. The seat control is working, meaning nothing is disconnected. What does placing the key on the passenger seat do? So that internal antennae can see the new key? Then it does not have to be on the pass seat. And why mine is not wokring..... Yes, new key has battery and I see the red dot lit up when any button is pressed.
@@DIYtimeTRD New. WARNING FOR U PEOPLE. Chinese makes these key fobs with circuit board that WOULD NOT BE DETECTED by techstream. It is called lonsdor circuit board and u will be stuck at "Place the key on the Passenger Seat". When u buy an aftermarket key fob, make sure it is compatible with techstream and it it not the "lonsdor circuit board". They claim their key fobs would only work with certain key programmers that 99% of us DIYers do not have / have access to.

Hi DIY, I like your simple instructions but I am having issues that weren't covered in the video. I have a 2015 Highlander hybrid. I'm with you all the way until 1:05, from there I get a screen that asks me to enter "registration software->new key" I hit cancel and then I am unable to progress further. I follow your steps to plug OBD in first, then usb end, then Start button push 2x, then open software followed by connect to car. When I try to connect it asks for a 'new key' as if it's trying to register the software. Can you help me?

I cant say for sure. TechStream says it is for North America VIN's only, but I don't see why it wouldn't for for Japanese cars if they use the same computers.

Not necessarily. You may have some issue with the receiver for the remote.

This will not work. You must have original key you want to make a copy of.
I am stuck at "Place the key on the Passenger Seat". Nothing happens when I place the NEW key on the FRONT passenger seat. It just times out. The seat control is working, meaning nothing is disconnected. What does placing the key on the passenger seat do? So that internal antennae can see the new key? Then it does not have to be on the pass seat. And why mine is not wokring..... Yes, new key has battery and I see the red dot lit up when any button is pressed.

@@DIYtimeTRD New. WARNING FOR U PEOPLE. Chinese makes these key fobs with circuit board that WOULD NOT BE DETECTED by techstream. It is called lonsdor circuit board and u will be stuck at "Place the key on the Passenger Seat". When u buy an aftermarket key fob, make sure it is compatible with techstream and it it not the "lonsdor circuit board". They claim their key fobs would only work with certain key programmers that 99% of us DIYers do not have / have access to.

You can, but used key fob has be be erased first, cuz it has a code from the old car. Techstream wont be able to erase old fob.

Hi DIY, I like your simple instructions but I am having issues that weren't covered in the video. I have a 2015 Highlander hybrid. I'm with you all the way until 1:05, from there I get a screen that asks me to enter "registration software->new key" I hit cancel and then I am unable to progress further. I follow your steps to plug OBD in first, then usb end, then Start button push 2x, then open software followed by connect to car. When I try to connect it asks for a 'new key' as if it's trying to register the software. Can you help me?

Just try it. If ECU is present and works properly, software should detect it when you get to the main menu.

Basically, in 1:55 seconds of this video, you mentioned to go and remove some of the options from the key that you no longer have, my question is how do you know which registered smart key to remove?
