BMW & Other Screen Washer Pump FIX in 60 secs!!!

- I realised it's a pain to access my screen wash pump under the car, so I tried a quick method by mouth pumping air direct down on the pipe to clear out the algae blocked filter at the pump. It worked out perfect for me! I hope it helps someone and save a lot of time. However, if your pump has failed or your nozzle is blocked then this method won't work.
Legend! Thank you so much! Was thinking it was going to cost me a small fortune to get it sorted but it took 10 seconds and now it’s all sorted!
TOP BANANA!!! ran my screen wash low on my x5... could hear the pump running and was certain the nozzles weren't blocked - 30 second fix - much respect dude
Perfect, I was scratching my head, then saw this and 30 seconds later - fixed 100%. Thanks for the video :)
Thanks for posting this tip. Blowing by mouth was unsuccessful, but using a compressed air line did the trick. Very happy to not have to replace the pump at this time of year.
Just used this trick. It worked perfectly. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post this.
you legend.. worked a treat.. i couldn't blow back down and got a bicycle pump and it was blocked both ways.. works perfect now.. cheers for taking the time to put this up.
This worked for me, 30 secs FIX. A lot easer then the other methods on UA-cam. Thanks for posting the vid!!!
You have saved me so much time money and effect. Done what you did now my screen washers work even better then before. Thank you so much.
What a fabulous suggestion! Mended my swooshes in less than a minute!
Best fix! I tried blowing through the line at first and i could hear the fluids bubbling in the reservoir but that didn't make much of a difference as the jet struggling to squirt. Like others listed below I connected tyre inflator/compressor to the line for a couple of minutes turning it off and on periodically and that done the trick! No doubt it will probably clog again at some point so I should probably try and flush but for now it's working better than when I first bought the car. Thank you so much!
I don't usually comment but I've been trying to fix this issue for ages and this worked a treat!
I ended up using a balloon pump as mine were proper built up but it worked amazingly! Thanks!
Just had the same problem with the washers not working on my E90, looked at other vids saying to take of the inner wheel arch to get to the pump filter but that seemed a very time consuming way to fix, used this vid and it fixed the problem in less than 60 secs, sound advice mate!
Worked..... What a Champion you are.... Just brilliant... this simple trick worked on my 3 serried BMW and saved my time and money.... Thanks a lot
Absolute hero, just saved me taking it to the garage!
Dude... Thank you so much! It worked! Been looking for a solution without taking off anything or replacing anything!
You sir are a bloody legend 👏 thankyou soooooo much for this video, my jets stopped working today & I have a long journey ahead of me tomorrow, you just saved me a long night of repairs, unfortunately I'd bought the replacement pump before seeing this.
But again thankyou 👍
Today my MOT failed because "washer provides insufficient washer liquid to both sides", I was sooo p*** off, I was in the process of booking the car for repairs and I thought let me have a quick look in youtube and here it is THE SOLUTION!!! You just have save me time and money, thank you very, very much for your video, all working now.
i'm glad it helped you out :)
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. Didn't solve the problem because one of my pump motors was blocked. A good blow with the air compressor could get the motor spinning and maybe unblocking if it's not very stuck. I took mine out, took off it's case with a screwdriver and gave it a spin with pliers. After cleaning the exterior rust and lubricating it with wax it was as good as new. I also took the water tank inside and gave it a good wash. You would be surprised how much dirt there is on it's filters and interior walls.
Great tip! worked a treat. My X5 has a slightly different layout and so cannot blow into it, but I used a bicycle pump and is working fine now. thanks
This helped so much! Saved me buying a new pump (even though it wouldn't have fixed the problem) 😂 the air compressor idea worked perfectly as when I blew down it, it didn't work
Yea just did mine, it took a few blows with a bike pump and washer applications and each time it got stronger and stronger, did it half a dozen times and cleaned the jets out and now it's like new, brilliant thanks. Saved me getting the washer bottle off which is a faff
After me believing I was in for an expensive repair this video has been a lifesaver!! thanks 😀
I'm glad it worked for you :)
Just saved me a trip to the workshop. Many thanks
I just wanted to come back to this video and thank you. I have an E90 and this video was EXACTLY the same as that. Blew for 30 seconds and the washer bottle started to bubble, I knew that It'd fixed it. Thanks mate!
Thanks for coming back dude! I'm glad it worked ;)
Thanks for the video. I was about to book my car into a garage and just tried this, it worked 👍🏻
Awesome tip mate. Fixed in 60 seconds- thanks very much
Worked a treat for me. Very happy! Thanks for the tip!
Worked for my 2008 e90. Thanks very much mate!
You are a legend, problem solved was worried it was gonna be expensive!
Followed the video to a T. Worked like a dream. Thanks a million.
Best hack ever ! How convenient that the pipe is right there to blow through mine has never been firing water in the screen so gooooood !
worked perfect! although mine was BMW Z4, saved me few pounds..thank you..I will add syphoning the liquid out few times makes sure the sludge is completely out though..
great tip..thank you
Excellent tip. It worked perfectly when I tried it. Thanks!
I just went outside to try this and it worked!! thanks so much!
Great advise. It does work and saved me some trouble for the MOT
Nice one, i'm glad it helped you out ;)
I went to the trouble of going to the hardware store to get the tubing to syphon the water out... but no need, just blew back and they started working again... thanks man
Cheers. Was about to have half the side of my car taken off to get at the tank to unblock. Did this and now sorted. Connected the nozzle from a Silicone sealant tube to the pipe to blow, then a bit Milton Baby Bottle Steriliser in the tank. Saved a lot of hassle and expense. 👍
Wow this really worked for me. The sprayers are better than before. Thanks you saved me Money bro.
7 years later and this worked a charm!!! Took me less than 20secs
Thanks used my tyre compressor to blow air down the pipe, all that brown crap inside wow, put hose pipe into the water tank and left it running, soon cleared it all out, washers work brilliant now.
Thank you extremely pleased with your vlog.
Awesome, it does work ! thanks for sharing......in addition, I still need to clean the reservoir since there is a lot of precipitate.
Cheers for that! 30 seconds and fixed! 👍👍👍
Bro, you are a life saver, 2016 BMW 2 series, disconnected hose at the bonnet and blew into it, problem solved!
This definitely helps HAHA thank you very much for this very useful info! Saved my trip to the workshop😍
Legend hahaha.. Ea fix mine wasn't blocked. It looks like it both connectors were dislodged. It was spraying weak so lofted bonnet and was spraying hard inside engine bay.. Thank you. Been like this for over a month 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂😂👍👍👍
Wow! Thanks for the quick fix will give mine a go this weekend. :)
Thank you so much! I just tried it after watching you video and it worked a treat! :)
I knew my pump was good. Was just blowing weak onto the glass barely wetting it about 1/4 past bottom. This just worked like a charm. Was about to tear all lines apart before I found this video.
Amazing, so often you come across videos on UA-cam with fixes which don't work or just pure rubbish. This REALLY DOES WORK! Thank you so much, as you just saved me £100+ as a mechanic would definitely charge me for a new filter or pump etc.Only things to be aware of are:1) It's not as easy as it looks to remove the hose; mine was extremely tight and i had to slowly use Stanley knife blade (not recommended) to tease the hose off, before i could pull at it (bashed my hand painfully 2x though so be careful)2) I blew into the hose (you can hear the water in the bottle gurgling) for 15-20 secs and it didn't work at first. In the end i blew for about 50-60 secs, but i guess it depends on how bad the build up of algae is in your filter
I'm glad it helped you out and thanks for your appreciation. I agree, sometimes it can be difficult to pull out the tube. Probably better if you apply some wd40 and wear protective gloves. Also if there are too much algae in the tank it might clog up again in a day or two, then you must empty out the tank.
Sadly, it clogged again. The stream of water was strong for about 30secs but i literally saw it die back down to the feeble 2cm squirt. What is the best way to empty out the tank to remove all the gunk? Also will putting bleach into the tank with hot water not damage the plastic tank?
Thank you for this, just did it on my e92 for NCT test tomorrow. I couldn't get the tube off and tried hot water to loosen blockage and cheap syphon pump but no luck. Used a tip below to warm up the tube connection with warm water and it came off after twisting for a while. After blowing down the tube i could see the gunk coming out using the syphon pump. Did it a few times until water ran clear. Sorted.
You’ve just saved me loads of time, cheers pal 👍👍👍
Absolute legend, just done this on my new 320D worked an absolute charm
I'm glad my video helped you out :)
worked like magic thanks saved me a visit to mechanic 👍
Saved me a lot of time, wasn’t looking forward to removing the wheel arch lining!
I literally just did this and it worked amazing! Thank you so much for this video!!
nice one bro
Just saved me a trip to a garage, thanks so much!
Me too bro, really appreciate this man's help. Thank you!
Thanks. This is what I needed. All works now
You're a life saver!! Thank you man!
Good idea. I went the other way and blew into the washer fluid container because I could not get that little hose off. Be careful though, that fluid can come back into your mouth very quickly if you are not careful to avoid it.
Wow thanks, mine stopped this morning. This worked!
Great tip - worked for me, although only for a short time. However, I added Milton Fluid (sterilising stuff) to the washer bottle and left it overnight. Followed the above method the following morning to clear the filter, then ran what was left in the bottle out before re-filling with screen wash. Worked a peach.
Same happened to me... This is the comment I was looking for
just did this and bravo they work again cheers
Legend, saved my 7 series going to garage
worked a treat! thank you for this.
Worked on my 118d!!!! Thank you 👊
You Sir, are a Genius!
Great video. Saved me a massive pain.. Thanks
unbelievable, took no time and the problem solved
I just watched this video and it worked perfectly 👌🏻 thanks.
Totally worked on my 07 E90 thank you
Recently tried this on a F31 it worked as a temporary fix along with steredent tablets, later spent a couple of hours removing osf wheel, arch liner an washer reservoir to find front washer pump filter clogged up ( rear wash filter was clear ), its the only 100% proper way to fix the problem first time and get rid of any snot in the system glad i did as my screen wash has never been more powerful must of been partially blocked from start, once jacked up wheel off only a few small 8 - 10mm and small torx to remove arch liner then 1 bolt holding in reservoir and it slides down take pictures along the way
Mines the same. Gunna try it tomorrow. Hopefully it’ll work.
But thanks for the video. 👍🏻
Great!! When the sludge in the bottom of your washer bottle moves back it will keep blocking the flow, you need to remove pump and clean out bottle and filter!
Worked perfect for me. Thank you
That's worked for me, great. Please note removing hose can be slightly challenging. Just pre-warm with something hot and it will slide out smoothly 😎
Good tip thanks
You’re a genius! Thank you so much!
You are the best mate 👍🏻 thanks for the help
Seemed to have worked for me! Thank You for the Video!!!
My pleasure :)
my washers aren't spraying correctly and bmw have just told I have a blockage and it'll be £60 to fix. I'll be giving this a try !
Cheers mate from a dribble to a fire hose wow.
Brilliant! Thank you and best wishes.
I was going to remove all the wheel arch liners to get to the tank to empty it. Put a cup full of bleach in, disconnected the tube and used a bicycle pump with football adapter on the end, pumped like crazy and all the gunk came to the surface and spilled out the filler cap. It squirts so hard now it covers surrounding cars!! Fixed in a few minutes!! thanks!
lol nice one!
Does it matter if the water spills in under the hood of the car where engine is
@@AbdulHaq11901
That's my concern too.
Did you try it?
I'm thinking of fixing a large plastic bag with duct tape around the top of the reservoir to make sure the spillage will be outside the car.
Thank you very much. you have saved me a lot.
This worked for me, brilliant! I know the gunk causing the blockage is probably floating in the tank and may get blocked again, but will try to flush out by overfilling a few times and not let the reservoir get too low. May be an idea to use a hot water flush to dissolve the gunk.
That's actually a great idea regarding hot water flush. Will try it out if my washer gets blocked again ;)
Is there a clamp that holds the washer jet hose? Mine looks like there is or is it pressure held?
Thanks.
Thanks saved me lots of money top fix
Just tried on 12 plate x1... couldn't clear it by blowing so hooked up tyre inflator for about 25 seconds. Now working perfectly. not sure for how long but at least it's now working as new. Well done and thanks for brilliant tip.
How long did it last for Philip?
@@Stuart3162 almost a year, it's fine now.
@@philipcham2574 thank you Philip 👍
I did the very same thing today! All sorts of stuff came up in the bottle!! YUK!!! But it all went back down again and blocks it all up again!!!
Thanks buddy this worked for me.
Worked for me, thank you! 👍
Dude you're a freaking genius!
Cheers buddy, i'm glad it helped you!
Worked a treat, cheers. 👍
Absolute legend worked a perfectly. And didn't cost me a thing. Thanks a lot pal. 5 stars.*****
I'm glad my video helped you out haha
Worked a treat saved me a one hour labour charge at the local garage.
Nice one.
Does work as a quick fix, my experience is that it usually clogs back up again after a short while, especially if you have mixed washer fluid and it’s gone sludgy, may be a slightly longer resolve if you have algae issues however
Try hot water (not boiling) into the reservoir, then use a multiuse syphon pump (2 euro) to syphon out the liquid. Might work in getting sludge out and might need to do it a few times.
Pump is working but no liquid flow, I was going to Bmw centre to fix but now I’ll test it myself. Thanks 👍🏼🤙🏼
I hope it worked out for you :)
thank you mate ! it works great!!
Thanks Dude! worked for my car.
I'm glad it helped you ;)
It actually worked !!! thanks man
