BMW & Other Screen Washer Pump FIX in 60 secs!!!

  • I realised it's a pain to access my screen wash pump under the car, so I tried a quick method by mouth pumping air direct down on the pipe to clear out the algae blocked filter at the pump. It worked out perfect for me! I hope it helps someone and save a lot of time. However, if your pump has failed or your nozzle is blocked then this method won't work.

    Thanks for posting this tip. Blowing by mouth was unsuccessful, but using a compressed air line did the trick. Very happy to not have to replace the pump at this time of year.

    Best fix! I tried blowing through the line at first and i could hear the fluids bubbling in the reservoir but that didn't make much of a difference as the jet struggling to squirt. Like others listed below I connected tyre inflator/compressor to the line for a couple of minutes turning it off and on periodically and that done the trick! No doubt it will probably clog again at some point so I should probably try and flush but for now it's working better than when I first bought the car. Thank you so much!

    Just had the same problem with the washers not working on my E90, looked at other vids saying to take of the inner wheel arch to get to the pump filter but that seemed a very time consuming way to fix, used this vid and it fixed the problem in less than 60 secs, sound advice mate!

    Today my MOT failed because "washer provides insufficient washer liquid to both sides", I was sooo p*** off, I was in the process of booking the car for repairs and I thought let me have a quick look in youtube and here it is THE SOLUTION!!! You just have save me time and money, thank you very, very much for your video, all working now.

    Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. Didn't solve the problem because one of my pump motors was blocked. A good blow with the air compressor could get the motor spinning and maybe unblocking if it's not very stuck. I took mine out, took off it's case with a screwdriver and gave it a spin with pliers. After cleaning the exterior rust and lubricating it with wax it was as good as new. I also took the water tank inside and gave it a good wash. You would be surprised how much dirt there is on it's filters and interior walls.

  • @jasonyau1536

    Amazing, so often you come across videos on UA-cam with fixes which don't work or just pure rubbish.This REALLY DOES WORK! Thank you so much, as you just saved me £100+ as a mechanic would definitely charge me for a new filter or pump etc.Only things to be aware of are:1) It's not as easy as it looks to remove the hose; mine was extremely tight and i had to slowly use Stanley knife blade (not recommended) to tease the hose off, before i could pull at it (bashed my hand painfully 2x though so be careful)2) I blew into the hose (you can hear the water in the bottle gurgling) for 15-20 secs and it didn't work at first. In the end i blew for about 50-60 secs, but i guess it depends on how bad the build up of algae is in your filter

    • @funtimeuk6127
      @funtimeuk6127  6 років тому

      I'm glad it helped you out and thanks for your appreciation. I agree, sometimes it can be difficult to pull out the tube. Probably better if you apply some wd40 and wear protective gloves. Also if there are too much algae in the tank it might clog up again in a day or two, then you must empty out the tank.

    • @jasonyau1536
      @jasonyau1536 6 років тому

      Sadly, it clogged again. The stream of water was strong for about 30secs but i literally saw it die back down to the feeble 2cm squirt. What is the best way to empty out the tank to remove all the gunk? Also will putting bleach into the tank with hot water not damage the plastic tank?

  • @stephenw1799
    @stephenw1799 10 місяців тому

    Thank you for this, just did it on my e92 for NCT test tomorrow. I couldn't get the tube off and tried hot water to loosen blockage and cheap syphon pump but no luck. Used a tip below to warm up the tube connection with warm water and it came off after twisting for a while. After blowing down the tube i could see the gunk coming out using the syphon pump. Did it a few times until water ran clear. Sorted.

    Recently tried this on a F31 it worked as a temporary fix along with steredent tablets, later spent a couple of hours removing osf wheel, arch liner an washer reservoir to find front washer pump filter clogged up ( rear wash filter was clear ), its the only 100% proper way to fix the problem first time and get rid of any snot in the system glad i did as my screen wash has never been more powerful must of been partially blocked from start, once jacked up wheel off only a few small 8 - 10mm and small torx to remove arch liner then 1 bolt holding in reservoir and it slides down take pictures along the way

    Does work as a quick fix, my experience is that it usually clogs back up again after a short while, especially if you have mixed washer fluid and it’s gone sludgy, may be a slightly longer resolve if you have algae issues however
