Worked perfect on my 435. Filled tank with water to top. Unclipped the hose feeding the nozzle line attached to hood. Used air compressor to push air backward. Of course the first time I pressed the air line I pushed so much air the smelly water erupted all over me. Did this this twice. Works great now. Huge thanks!
I found this video sort of helpful but when I went to emulate it on my X5 it was just too difficult. So I added a quarter of a bottle (50 grams or a couple of tablespoons) of brewers detergent (Sanistar) and a cup of Clorex to to the water tank and filled it with hot water. BOOM 5 minutes later water was flying all over the windscreen just like brand new, saved myself hours. Great helpful video keep making them but sometimes there are just easier ways. All the best clear vision to you all!!!
Good advice. Did the same with my Honda Civic. I, like most people, don't have a compressed air thingy though, so I got myself a £80 Bosch 18v Air Pump/Compressor for less money than the garage would have charged me for the time to take off wheels and whatnot. Then used a £10 hand syphon pump to suck the dirty liquid out of the reservoir (a couple of times). So now I have clear washers, a lovely universal air pump, a handy liquid pump and still saved money.
Legend , i had blocked filter for ages mot even didn’t noticed that , found this video and now all working and saved a lot work and labour , really does the job , i used tyre pump and bang on ……Thanks mate
Brilliant. Used a foot cycle pump on the pipe and it worked perfectly within a couple of minutes. My 56 reg tourer had just come back from a service with the suggestion I book it in again to clean the pipes no doubt for another couple of hundred. Many thanks for the help
Hi George 🙋♂️ !! Thanks a lot for this tip, it worked a treat 😊👍 !! My 320i is only 15 months old when the screen washer stopped working. I was dreading taking it in to the dealership and have them open it all up 🚘👨🏻⚕️! I used a football pump to introduce the air; the nozzle was a perfect size for the job ✅! A ten minute fix 💦! Greetings from Scotland 🏴, cheers, Don 👋
Thanks for another video, George. I had similar blockages with my BMW. Old screen wash had turned to a gel in the bottom and gunked things up. An additional preventive measure I was tipped off about was frequently adding steriliser tablets such as are used for baby bottles. No issues since.
Bmw x3. Washer motor fine but no water coming out. Blew the water back out as per video and hey presto all working fine. Took all of 20 mins start to finish and saved me£££££ if taken to garage. Thank you so much!!!
Tried that method on my 72 plate X5 before I sent it into the main dealer for it to be dealt with under warranty . Had a nasty surprise when they told me they had tested the water in the reservoir and found I had used non bmw screen wash and it’s NOT covered under warranty and I had to pay £190 to have the filters changed and the reservoir flushed out … it’s so expensive as they , as George said they have to remove the inner wing cowling to get access . I had three X5 in the last 10 years and this is the first time I have had this issue .to my knowledge I have had my car 18 months and only topped up the reservoir ONCE with non bmw approved screen wash and the filters became blocked !!!
In my E46, once a year I add one Milton (or Boots or the like) Sterilising Tablet in the reservoir. It kills of any mould growth which can be the cause of blocking filters.
Thanks for this video as I had no idea that this happens. I have a 2018 X3 so I tried this yesterday. It didn't appear to work initially but today, I have my washers again. This is definitely worth a try before trying to dismantle half the car or just booking it into the garage for a costly labour job. Some people have suggested drain unblocking fluid for what will be sitting at the bottom of the tank but worried that may cause some damage.
My rule of thumb is to never put tap water in the washer tank. Stuff grows in it... Pre mixed stuff is the best of concentrate watered down with cheap bottled water is ok.
I had a 2006, E53, X5 in Spain and i had to buy a new washer jet pump. Thankfully on the E53 its easy access, but there was 3 pumps on the 1 reservoir !!
Nice one George, do hope your getting a decent money for your hard work. Always liked your passion for fixing things. When i had my e92, in this summer i had to remove the whole bottle, the wheel arch was a pain, mostly the 2 hidden bolts. After that had to block the bottle and out bleach inside the washer bottle, for 3hours shaking it about, Also had to add some uncooked rice to shake the bottle to able to scubb the remaining mold inside the bottle.... once everything was clean, pipe all blown....felt like a brand new screen washer system.
Hi. Have a few questions, if possible. My screen bottle seems to have a filter on the top, once the caps removed, I'm guessing this will stop me flushing as the debris cannot come up & out? Also on the washer pipes, attached to bonnet, they seem very tight onto the jets, is there a knack to getting the tube off the jets or just steady twisting?. Thank you :))
Can you poke a hole in the filter on the pump so it not filtering anymore as you can't take it off as it is used as a seal as well as me and my brother changed the pump as it was making some good noises and water dribbling out and after some fighting got to it with just the wheel arch off if was easy to get the pump off it is getting it back in that is the hard part. But now after a few months it is starting to lose presser again bit by bit so guess it is blocking up again i use the pre mix halford screen wash so dont know why it keeps doing it so if i just break the screen if any gunk gets stuck it will be in the lines or spray heads what is easy to get to or you can buy the seal without the filter will that work better or just make it worse.
Can you talk about how to blow out the rear window washer jets? The front ones work fine but the rear I can hear the pump working but nothing comes out.
Hi there. Mine stopped working over the cold weather period. I've noticed I can't even hear the motor anymore does that mean the fuse or motor is knackered ? If its the fuse where and how do I locate it please
If you’re not creative with titles then they just won’t get recommended.. This was my worst performing video until I changed the title to a more creative one👍🏻
I don't think there is anything wrong with the title. He is fixing the issue for free. I'm having this problem on my g30 540i and I didn't know about the filters and contamination and now I know what to do this video is perfect.

When it turns to gel is because someone has used washing up liquid in the bottle Never use WASHING UP LIQUID .

Thanks very much for fix ,didn’t have a compressor like yours but my car tyre pump worked for me Daz 👍
Nice one!

Thank you so much . I thought I had done something wrong. Will try with my tyre pump
I don't have a BMW i do have a Mini that has an odd setup and have had to flush it out with a hose. Thanks George like your videos
Thank you it works for my X4
Glad I could help
Nice One George! Sorted my 420D dong this!
Glad to hear!
My rule of thumb is to never put tap water in the washer tank. Stuff grows in it... Pre mixed stuff is the best of concentrate watered down with cheap bottled water is ok.
Made a mess but fixed my issue! Thanks
You’re welcome!
Very helpful will this work on my BMW 520D 2013
I had a 2006, E53, X5 in Spain and i had to buy a new washer jet pump. Thankfully on the E53 its easy access, but there was 3 pumps on the 1 reservoir !!
I have similar issue in my BMW X5 .
How did you remove Washer Nozzle? If you can guide me through would be great.
Thank you
Yeah how helpful

Glad you liked it!

Best thing to do is clean out the washer bottle and not use thick washer fluid.. I use concentrate and water it down a lot!
@@GeorgeAusters Ok thanks will give it a shot thanks for the reply.
Great video! I wan to attempt this- but cant seem to disconnect the hose at the jet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
You have to pry the clip off
Hey George how do you disconnect hoses from nozzles I don't want to break them. Cheers
Pop up the grey clip and it comes off
Spot on mate cheers
All well and good but how did you remove and reinstall the unit. Prob the hardest bit…
thanks so much
You’re welcome
How to you remove the jets them selves, critical step
What about front windshield jets are working, but rear one isn’t and there a a notification that the fluid is low ?
Can you talk about how to blow out the rear window washer jets? The front ones work fine but the rear I can hear the pump working but nothing comes out.
Same way
Where are you located please. My x3 screen washer has same problem
Hi George my BMW 1 Series 2017 has a filter cap on the top of the bottle how do I remove this to get the gunk to pump out? thanks
Just pry / pop it out
thanks @@GeorgeAusters I'll give it a go I probably wasn't being forceful enough
Is this the x5 that marooned you ?. Neat trick with the air line i might invest in one myself as it seems a handy tool to have. All the best mate!.
Definitely worth having, and yes.. more videos to follow!
How do you remove the jets?
Hi there. Mine stopped working over the cold weather period. I've noticed I can't even hear the motor anymore does that mean the fuse or motor is knackered ? If its the fuse where and how do I locate it please
Check the fuse diagram in your glove box fuse box or search on Google
Still wondering what happened when you broke down in this?
These have been recorded I think a few weeks ago so we will probably start getting videos on the issue maybe in a week or so
Videos to follow👍🏻
You don't show disassemble or reassemble
I explained
George are you ever going to stop with the clickbait titles and thumbnails? This was an interesting video, why don't you just title it for what it is?
If you’re not creative with titles then they just won’t get recommended.. This was my worst performing video until I changed the title to a more creative one👍🏻
I don't think there is anything wrong with the title. He is fixing the issue for free. I'm having this problem on my g30 540i and I didn't know about the filters and contamination and now I know what to do this video is perfect.
You are nitpicking. Complaining for no reason.
There's nothing wrong with his title.
This was a useful video and a brilliant solution.
