Finally… a creator describing and executing with and from their skill set how to function as an administrator….WOW. AND…refreshing! How encouraging this made me feel!

Great video! Gotta work on setting systems in place and discipline for myself! Will be referring to this often!

First timer to your channel. I am going to watch this at least once more to fully get my head around it but really thought provoking. Thanks .

Great video Dave. I've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to support more time into my channel. Simple shifts have already improved my video output. Definitely agree with your points about building systems!

Beautifully articulated. As a working photographer, the thing that’s almost guaranteed to lead me to burnout and complete disconnect with my work is not having any structures in place. Blocking out periods of downtime is really important, too - I get all these things wrong all the time! But that feels like part of the practice, too; we can always get back on the horse. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼

I bet for lots of people a video like this is ‘in one ear, out the other,’ but this is fantastic. Excellent advice, full of detail. Thank you!

As much as I want to say “but, but, but”, you’re right. I haven’t made changes to my system and that’s the reason things aren’t working. I’m trying to make videos that take too much time for the amount I have. Will have to make some changes going into the new year.

Definitely take time to evaluate and pivot. I do it as needed, which is sometimes every week!

Dave, loved the content expressed in this video. I also liked the tiny prints in the intro... can you tell me what printer system you used to produce those?

Good advice for creatives because we are often not very good at these analytical and measurable aspects of life. All the experts say we should have SMART goals specific, measurable, etc. But I also like to tack on your schtick of “unless something goes horribly wrong.”

Dave, nice video. I too believe in the need for creating supportive systems. True creativity is not so much a talent as it is a craft, I believe, and systems help.
One point I would add is that, as a creative, no system will be sustaining or nourishing unless you have an overarching 'why.' A mission. A non-material reason for doing whatever it is one does. Speaking from experience, doing something for the money or external validation is what causes burnout, not merely doing too much of something. (And believe me, as a father of 2 in the Bay area, I understand the need for financial security.) IMHO a necessary leap of faith for a creative is firstly believing in one's own work then trusting that it will find the "right" audience. Rick Rubin's book has a lot of good stuff around this. Thanks.
