  • In this episode, I spend several days searching the city for the big predators inhabiting its urban waterways.
Big things await, well worth the wait, and while I do so I must face the many obstacles London can present, when one heads out in the urban wild seeking what is not meant to be found.

This is the problem with urbanites. They are absolutely clueless when it comes to hunting fishing and farming. They will absolutely jump up-and-down and pitch a fit because you're fishing but turn right around and go order fishing chips having no clue where the fish comes from.

I live in a small Essex village with a small river at the bottom of my garden and I feel blessed with what I have, but seeing these videos give me a big smiles as I know that you find peace in what you do.........BUT..........people are people and I can tell you that I piss a few people off by fishing with my son on public waters :( Why do these people have nothing better to do than make it hard for us to enjoy a simple loving life. Sending my best.....keep posting because I'm watching bro :) TY

I am staggered by all the hassle you get trying to fish, it's a traditional past time in England, how do people in London not understand? I'm sure with an environment agencies license you can fish anywhere providing you have access to the land etc, I feel lucky to live in the countryside.
I'm pretty sure the great John Wilson would have fished the same waterways as you

You get hassle for anything these days, no matter what you're doing, someone out there is going to have an issue with it. In this case it's just one of the many obstacles you can expect to encounter when seeking what I was after in this episode. However, you'll also find that most of the time it's definitely worth it! I used to do a lot of street photography and had security trying to move me on all the time too. A good tip is to look at the pavement outside of that property. If you see a row of flat metal studs running parallel to the front of the building, they are boundary markers. Security are entitled to ask you to leave the property if you are inside the boundary. If you step outside of them then they have no right to tell you what to do. Also bear in mind most security guards are not well trained by their employer and may not be aware of how this works. Hope that's useful info for you. Tight lines!

What an incredibly professional video; you have a really calming voice, perfect for documentary narration.
I remember catching my one and only pike when I was around 14, many, many moons ago. It was totally accidental and I thought I was reeling in yet another tonne of pondweed. It was only when I was about to grab the weed to remove it from my hook when it jumped (which made me jump even more!) to reveal a young pike. I seriously didn't fancy de-hooking that mini-monster after seeing its teeth, certainly nothing like the perch and roach I was used to bringing in. :D
This really was a great video to watch, thanks for the upload.

Hey dude, I hope this helps you. So there is a law and I mean law, that if you have a fishing licence you have rights to fish all public waters. Now, you can put up all the signs in the world, but if the water is public LEGALLY you can fish it, they might moan, they might not like it BUT that does not change the law. If the water is private however then do not fish it, as this legally constitutes theft. Yes theft as you have “taken” the fish from the water. The fish belong to the land owner. If the land is private but the water is public, then you can get in trouble for trespass but not for fishing cos again the water is public. It really annoys me seeing these stupid people who don’t know the law. It’s worth brushing up on it as whenever I have these encounters I enjoy pointing out the law rather than the theory.

I'm a fisherman that no longer fishes due to health issues. I will have a go again when I get a bit better. But I feel for you with the restrictions, Recently I had a thought to go to the flashes by the River Weaver. Near to the swing bridge. Since I was a boy 40 years + I could get to the little over spills of the river. As my mobility became a problem it was one place I could take my lad because I could drive to it. Get out of the car and fish by it. Now there's a gate across the track. No access. Just a sign saying no vehicles are allowed . That's one of the few easy places where I thought I could fish. There is another place a pit locally that I've fished over 50 years. Its fairly hidden away but i'm actually scared to go to see it , in case its filled in or out of bounds or what ever. I used to fish at Hatchmere lake and then the Prince Albert Society. I had arguments to join so I could fish in a lake I'd fished in since a lad. I did Join with £££'s member ship. To fish maybe 4 times in a year. Each time we were there I was asked if I was allowed there. One time we went up and they had put a fence up , despite showing them the membership. They would not open the gate or the Fence. Fellow society members. I was a member at this point. I didn't rejoin a second year. I found the club to be unfair to locals where every they went. Now as a member of the public I can not get to parts of the lake I used to as they have fenced it off for the few. There's no need for it. Every Sunday there were wild swimmers that swam there. They stopped that. It is something that had happened for 100 years. Family Picnic areas , RC Boats - all stopped for a few people who are fishing. That's not the problem its the few not sharing with the many. I am told the Prince Albert Society does good work and I expect they do, but I was not impressed with how they operated myself. At the time I thought I'll go the flash if my Grand kids want to fish. They don't have to go where I did as a kid. Turns out that is now gated to vehicles too. A right of way still exists for on foot. But I'm unable to walk that far. It was so handy as well. I always bought my rod licence , obeyed the legalities. But like an minority sport , the many like to take time from watching reality TV to stop other peoples fun. I could not do what you do and stay calm. For my condition I take steroids. I can go a bit Incredible Hulk and so avoid stress and confrontation. I am would not want to suffer the anxiety and anger that I would probably feel. Enjoy your videos. Keep fighting the 'man'. Well done

Cheers man, I haven't been able to weigh any of my fish since I forgot my scales late in the dark of night last summer, but I'll get a new one as soon as I have enough disposable income for it 😆
It'll be time to use that reel soon 💪🏻 let us know how it goes when you do 🎣🤘🏻 all the best

That last pike was a nice one , if you have your licence you can fish the water ways and I don’t think any of them are private not like lakes. It time to get the books out to find out your rights. I wish people would mind there own business.

Tbh I use to think you were a divvy like there's no point in glossing it. Watching a few of your recent videos, I can see you aren't and it seems in London the problem of you can't fish here or there really is a massive issue and I'm actually surprised you can stay that calm. Just keeping doing your thing pal 👍

Those fish u are using are great but they swim and sink too fast for my liking. Try a kamono 2 sub surface lure not cheap but they catch. Retrieve can be much slower giving more time for fish to react. Also if you are getting follows bit of fish bait or fish oil on lure may help as it will trick the fish into believing it’s real food 😁👍

That’s why I never fish where there are people around. I don’t get scared night fishing in the country on my own but I would never fish in the inner city. Onlookers freaks me out.

You see, this is the drawback of urban fishing. While it’s usually free and full of fish that are easy to catch, it’s just blighted by self-entitled middle class tw**s. It’s similar up here in Manchester.

I enjoy your show and I am hoisting a pint to you and our fine English friend. May God bless you all. Michael Weeks, San Antonio, Texas.

What how are you catching pike in a tidal body of water? Is it freshwater or saltwater? Im so confused, do they lower and raise the water level with man made devices or is it an actual tidal zone? Im beyond confused right now lol. Guess i should google about canals and waterways in london and whether its saltwater or freshwater and how the tides work cause now im genuinely curious and confused over it lol.
