    A really difficult story to do. But vital journalism, and I congratulate the bravery of all involved. Doing a story in a much longer format (over 20 minutes) than conventional television would allow, and having a dedicated focus to the impacts of the sex 'trade' on poor/vulnerable indigenous women is important for progress and for improving the awareness of and the safety net for women who are caught up in this dangerous occupation. Between the risks of sexual predators and the risks of street drugs and homelessness, this story has important insights to share. Fine work, APTN.

    Not one cent should be given to other countries when we have ppl suffering in the streets here. First Nations ppl have been trampled over and over again. It’s a disgusting fact about this province and country. God bless all❤

    Liz does an amazing job in this video. She's intelligent, articulate, engaging, and she must be an excellent public speaker. These girls are truly blessed to have her as their advocate.

    Don't rule out it being a cop or cops behind the missing women. I had a cop (in uniform)years ago in Ontario offer me booze to go do something with him but I told him "No leave me alone". I didn't tell on him because he likely would have always found ways to arrest me for something and I was scared of him as he was a very big man. He's since passed away but I wonder how many other young women he tried that on with?

    This is so horribly sad...🥺 I hate that people end up living like this, thinking it's the only way to survive. 💔
    I've know a couple girls through my late brother, who he knew from the street. I love you, Patti, and I think of you often, Christine. 💜💜

    • @derekpam7149

      This is the hatred and assumptions natives put on other women. ALL WOMEN should be working together to keep safe but the more natives stay angry at other women the less anyone cares about them. White women are not killing nor raping you and natives are not at all comparable to African Americans that built America thru slavery. Natives don’t work not even to help their children a complete opposite to Malcom that was speaking of African Americans vs white many generations ago. Goodness school is free I sure wish you would try it
      But again hate for other women don’t ask for help then. I mean native girls even hate each other

    • @leahspagrud

      And if you don’t realize this is purposely pushed in the media (the protection of white women and children) you’re sleeping on key information. Easier to keep everyone down when they’re battling each other and not the real enemy.
      Many people are waking to the real enemy in the media, thankfully. Are you?

    Every sex worker is exploited by the customer who is paying for sex. They may not be killed or beaten, but they are being used regardless.

      And to think Women do Only Fans online and glorify it.
      I lived in Edmonton on 118 and 82.
      Id walk down the street and give these girls money and coffee to keep themselves warm and fed.
      It was a wake up to world we live in.
      My other wake up was going to war.

    Can we stop calling them "dates". They are NOT out on a date. That word doesn't tell the truth as to what is happening. The word needs to represent the serious, harshness, and dangerous aspect of what's happening. We're not granting dignity by saying they were on a "date".

  • @derekpam7149

    Nice to see native helping native for once! And btw if you’re actually walking the streets still then it’s clear cut drugs and you can’t make an addict stop. Just nice to see one native finally helping other natives finally.
    There are many motels the native gangs take the girls but no one wants to hear it so can’t help if everyone stays ignorant

    • @lisameyer5788
      @lisameyer5788 4 місяці тому +2

      I know that some don't stay on the street because they end up with an addiction, but the majority do, I would think. 🥺 As for the gangs, they're relentless...I wish we could make them all just STOP.

      Broken foster care system.
      Come drive around HOPE and just see how many kids are dropped by foster families at 18 years of age. They were never taught that "billions of dollars" await for education, housing etc., , much less how to apply for the money.
      Wanna come down and spend time with them teaching how to? Nope?
      Then stop "presuming" what isn't there, including you know who. Thanks.

    Helping drug addicted prostitutes getting off the street is one thing. Having compassion and pity them is ok. But advertising and condoning their morally disgusting and sinful activity is not acceptable. Yes, nobody has the right to murder them. But they also put themselves in that position by choosing this life. Sure they had a difficult childhood. So do many other people and they don't choose to do drugs and prostitute themselves. I say children need to be helped. Foster home system needs to be stopped. It doesn't work and is bad. Also if native parents are not willing or able to care for the children, better help family members in the same community to care for them.

    • @JohnBailey-yy5pp

      this is how wrong the system is. we have so many innocent women and men and even children that need help and support but yet these people are helping mostly criminals and thieves support their criminal activity and human trafficking rings. does anyone have a clue how many people were robbed and harmed by prostitutes?

    Imagine the hard working people who work in minimum wage jobs in the area and their kids playing around these woman . I see thousand of Somali immigrants in that area who came from civil war countries I have never seen their woman in sex work or their man in selling drugs. They Barely speak English but you will see them working all the time . Those immigrants have more recent trauma then those woman . The neighborhood is ruined our property are not safe . Our children are not safe . If it takes them more 200 years to come out of the generational trauma then we have to deal with them for so long .

    • @Dignifiedbaby
      @Dignifiedbaby 5 місяців тому +6

      You actually don’t understand anything. While those immigrants come from war, they didn’t grow up in homeless and weren’t born to drug addict parents. People’s trauma is not created equally so it’s really unfair to compare two completely different types of trauma and expect people to handle hardships the same way. Try to show sympathy if you’re not capable of empathy.

    • @ibrahimm2012
      @ibrahimm2012 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Dignifiedbaby how do u expect me to show empathy when my house , kids , property are not safe . I am scared that my kids will be grabbed by them or my property will be damaged by them. Out of all the countries in the world Canada is still in the top best countries. There is no real poverty here. If u want to make money there is chances to do that Atleast minimum wage compare to other countries . Empathy and sympathy works only when u try your best then get some help . But here they are drug addicts, doing crime . I think the victim mindset is keeping them behind.

    • @Dignifiedbaby
      @Dignifiedbaby 5 місяців тому +6

      @@ibrahimm2012 YOU DIDNT EVEN TRY SYMPATHY SO IDK HOW YOU COULD EVER BE EMPATHETIC. You literally only see them as criminals and drug addicts. Your way of thinking is very limited and not kind. Addiction is literally a sickness and people are stuck with the sickness often times. And in order for people to heal from the sickness we have to show compassion towards them and not look down upon them like you are doing right now. One day it could be your kid who becomes a drug addict if you don’t stop being such a negative unkind person

      You can thank your lucky stars you don't have these problems. Get on your knees and thank Allah you don't have these problems and don't understand Mr. Ibrahim. And there is def somali gangs and if you went to their country they were displaced from you would see all kinds of terrible things. In no5 comparable.
