Gun Violence Leading Cause Of Death Among U.S. Children And Teens
"The leading cause of death of children and teens is guns..."
You have to do some serious cherry picking to make that statement.
These statistics use "Children ages 1-19.."
Once a child hits puberty, they are no longer a child, they are an adolescent.
Boys/Men between the ages of 15-24 are responsible for the most gun crimes in the nation, victimizing their peers. This is because of gang related and felony mass shootings that occur frequently with gang initiations.
A majority of shootings involving a minor are generally in the commission of another crime, occurring in urban areas with either high crime or gang activity.
If you control for further statistics you can see that making the range 1-19 literally makes no sense because there are a lot of different social practices and social mobility between those ages.
If we were to take children ages 1-10, we can see very quickly that firearm related deaths are not the leading cause of death among children.
This statistic is widely shared among journalists and academia but objectively examined it doesn't make any sense. It just a very subjective statistic with a subjective goal lined out before the statistics are categorized.
A critical examination of this subject will clearly show that many people are not either going deep enough to understand what is happening in America, or they have a subjective opinion or goal focusing the data to support this position.

Thank you for sharing your story. This was hard to watch. My 16 y/o niece was also riding in a car with friends when a bullet entered the vehicle and struck her in the base of the head. The impact left her paralyzed and fighting for her life. She held on as long as she could but succumbed to her injuries 8 months later. Seeing that you pulled through warmed my heart. Live well!

Violence wouldn’t be as big of an issue if politicians on both the right and left and the media didn’t rile people up and promote fighting amongst one another.

This is misleading. This survey goes to age 19. The majority of the deaths are 17-19 year olds that are, guess what….. in gangs, committing gang violence. This is being presented as law abiding gun owners are running around popping children. That’s not true.
@@redsable6119 Actually it wouldn't. The vast majority of youth gun deaths are black on black homicides. If guns were the problem you would see white kids dying in disproportionate numbers. This isn't the case. Almost as if the number of guns in a household have nothing to do with gun deaths and culture may be the primary culprit. 😂
Since it is primarily black kids killing each other that account for the majority of youth deaths it is probably not right wing rhetoric doing the damage.😂

This report makes it seem like kids are shot as a result of another person doing the shooting. I see other news videos saying that suicide, not drive-by or mass shootings, accounts for most gun violence in the US. If that’s the case, then we need more to help the mentally ill.
Suicide is not violence. But a majority of gun deaths are from suicides.
Mass shootings make up like 1% of gun violence and gang related shootings make up another large majority.
I have never heard of a child committing suicide in my country. Most people who try and commit suicide fail - but not when they use guns. Quickest, cheapest and easiest way to save children struggling with mental health would be to remove the access to guns.
The numbers are actually amazingly low. However, there was a spike in black on black homicides in the youth demographic since 2018. Suicides were less than 1500 of the 3500 gun deaths in 2022. Less than 300 were accidental firearms deaths. More kids drown each year than are accidently killed with a firearm. If we could do something about black kids killing each other the number of youth homicides would be extremely low in this country.

@@hendrxThe stat they are using counts persons aged 1-19. The homicides by gun don't make the top 5 causes until age 18 when intercity kids go thru gang intiation. Car accidents and drug overdoses are the number 1 and 2 most common causes of death for persons aged 1-18.

Think about this if you have a pile of sand and you take off one grain at a time how small does it need to be to stop being a pile? The answer is never every grain of sand is its own pile contributing to the larger pile. If you take a clump of cells and add one cell at a time how big and complex does the clump need to be to no longer be classified as a clump? The answer is never. Everybody meets the definition of a clump of cells that's literally what we are. We are multicellular organisms AKA organisms with more than one cell clumped together.
It's more to do with the soft on crime laws. That allows criminals to get away with murder. Plenty of people who own guns legally who don't do bad things with them.

Last time I checked, 18 and 19 year olds by federal law is the age of majority when they turn into a full grown adult. Some of them are in Iraq right now serving our country. If you are gonna make a claim about "#1 killer of children" atleast only include 17 and below.

The only statistic that pushes this number above auto accidents is black homicides. Since 2018 black homicides have skyrocketed. At some point liberals need to look in the mirror and take some responsibility for their damaging rhetoric!😢

@@jeffrobinson4523 1. those gun laws struck down by scotus were not in effect yet and 2. if you actually knew anything about it and pay attention to the interviews with the NY gov. you would know that even though it is now tech possible to get a permit, the gov is still able to dictate where one can carry and she is pretty much making it impossible to carry anywhere that someone might want or need to. she is basically circumventing it by declaring pretty much the entire city as a designated gun free zone.
