What an incredible display of perfect long distance running. Her form is perfect. She isn't wasting any energy with unnecesaary movements or by pushing herself beyond what is needed. Smooth, fast pace in control the whole time. That is a masterclass display of how to run long distance and be a champion.
Very exciting run! Gooday moves beautifully on the track making her World Record look like something she was born to do. Congratulations Goday! Cheers to this powerful young athlete, to her coach, to her country. Well done.
That was one of the greatest things I ever seen in track. We just watched a woman lap a field of professional runners twice! Just a absolutely incredible effort.
Letesenbet Gidey's running style Is truly mesmerizing. The way she seems to glide over the track has that rare quality shared by the likes of Bekele. The setback at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships was hard to watch, especially after all her incredible performances and world records. With the personal and political challenges she's faced recently, splitting with her long time coach Haile Eyasu, a new marriage, and the impact of the conflict in her home region of Tigray, it's no surprise she's needed a break. The fact that she’s only 26 gives a glimmer of hope that this pause in her career is temporary rather than final. It's not uncommon for top athletes to go through phases like these, where life outside the sport affects performance. Here’s hoping she finds her stride again and adds more accolades to an already legendary career.
If that was the second placer behind her in orange who collapsed, she was not very much far behind, just about 2 seconds. But upon review, the orange jersey girl was already lapped by Gidet meaning she still had at least one more lap to go, but she stopped, that means DNF.
She probably thought she finished, might have forgotten that she was lapped and there was nobody there to tell her she has another lap to run...or two.
When she finished, I'm thinking "let the girl rest. Get her breath." Folks are excited and want to pull her up from the ground to give her a hug. LET HER REST. If you want to hug, get down to the ground with her.
Very old news, 28:54.14 is the world record set by Beatrice Chebet At the 2024 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, 25 May. Chebet is the reigning Olympic Champion on both 5.000 m and 10.000 m .
She is amazing . It's been shown that the better your physical shape is, the better your brain can focus making you a bit of a better learner. Given these circumstances I think it might be better to concentrate on physical fitness more up to age 15 as we will have a insanely healthy population and at the same time their brains will have benefited along the way creating the "best I can be" scenario for students on the verge of college.
She reminds me of one preticular animal called “ secretariat” which was a horse breaking records which since no other horse could reach. It is incredible performance by a young women. Congrats to her.
@2:42 Another example of stating the bleedingly obviously wrong. That's deliberate, because I think it helps the algorithm promote videos when they have engagement, and correcting apparent idiocy constitutes engagement.
@1:00 Using technology is not unfair to previous track athletes or any athlete in any sport for that matter. Throughout time technology has always played a role in sports, better tracks, better shoes, better sports science, etc. The funny thing is after all this technology of the last 100 years, the 100m time difference between the current world recorld held by Usain Bolt (9.58s) in 2009 and Charles Paddock (10.4s) in 1921 is 0.82 seconds, which is quite the difference when speaking on a 100m race, but does seem to lack luster in the context of a span of 100 years. The crazy thing is if take Usian Bolt of the list then that time difference increase well over 10% which goes to show how much a freak of nature Usain Bolt truley is.
I watched this race on tv and I was floored. I’ve seen maybe 1 runner lapped twice, but almost everyone! I was a little bit of a distance runner. The fastest I ever ran was 5:30 minutes per mile for 3 miles.
It is genetics that makes elite athletes. You could train for 20 years and not get close to her performance. A million people can run a 6-minute mile, but only 0.001% can run a 5-minute mile and even less a 4-minute mile.
IKR !?! As a High School Cross Country & Track guy who ran 800, mile, 2 mile, 5 & 10k that was absolutely amazing. Didn't realize the women's world 10k - by her - was down to 29:01 - fantastic pace & power. Our Highschool Champ set our school records at all those distances & was #5 in San Diego County - this was 1979. I was blown away when he did: Mile - 4:23 2 Mile - 9:10 5 K - 14:50 10k - 30:15 Back then I think we figured he was about the same speed as a Female Olympian, but none were nearby & don't forget there was NO Internet or UA-cam to show you in real time what others elsewhere were doing. Youd have monthly Runners World magazine and that was about it lol ! The cool part to me is that though we compare ourselves to others in a penultimate mental matchup yet, the real battle - and more importantly, the Triumph is for us to each enjoy the pursuit of excellence and the attainment of our best efforts - however it may compare to others. My best mile was 4:55 but I worked really hard to achieve it...and felt fabulous as a result. My best 10k was at the Fiesta Island Road Race @ 36:00 - a 5:45 mile pace - good for 110th place of 8,000 runners - WAAAY slower than any of these elite women here - but it felt like a fabulous achievement. Even my High School Champ buddy, as fast as he was, wanted to get a Top 10 finish but had to settle for like 22nd place - the TOP 5 places went to World Class Olympic men, then College Champs, then High School guys....ah great memories. And to the point you made about a million can run 6:00 but only .001% can do a 5 minute mile - I spoke to many runners who ran the Fiesta Island 10k over the secceeding decades and never once met anyone who was near or ahead of my time - even though at that time I felt BAD about not making a higher placing...I was focused on the 109 guys ahead of me & missed the fact that I managed to put 7,890 of the others behind me LOL 😆😆😆
Nonsense, I've ran a 4:47 mile, loads of my fellow club runners men and women have done a sub 5 mile as have many other running friends and acquaintances, it's a much much higher percentage.
In this video 1st, this track and field event is being held in Africa, and when I was running the mile and cross-country, on the clock, all our events, had a lot of spectators, because sports in Hawaii is very popular, whether it be high school or college, it didn't matter, but to run track and field, you have to control your pace, and your breathing,,and during the Olympics it's very important because many of these athletes are pros.

So imagine that the best athletes were even known!
A truly remarkable run in breaking the world record. That said, the others in the race may be ‘professionals’ but she was by far the only ‘elite’ runner in the race.

These lights must be used more in the Olympics even it is so cleaver and great for the fans watching. I will say this the narrator has no idea of running because he thought she was getting tired when she was checking time for her distance. Because all of a sudden she stretched her legs rather than speed them up which increases the amount of ground covered per stride and that is how she got speed up. Most long distance runners never stop running after retiring from international competition, like Ron Hill who famously ran every day of his life, but sprinters and middle distance runners have more of a tendency to stop exercising completely and put on weight.
First time I’m seeing the lights. I don’t see a problem with it. It allows you to see what the original record is. But I think the yellow which is easier to see should be the record.
What an inredible stamina and endurance!

The pace light is horrible for the sport. It is easier to train a pace. This should be banned.
@jaytrock3217 --- I agree. It's a distraction, and electronics and mechanical things fail and can be corrupted and or manipulated as well.
Her stride is Pure Perfection!!

WOW! her form is so smooth & fluid - amazing talent that I am sure came from years of hard work & determination - very very cool
What a wonderful example of the dedication and strength of a human being can be. God Bless Her, I feel immense pride for her.
Brilliant running ! Thank you for the excitement and your achievement, ma.am
A great run. (Her coach by the way, was telling the other runners to go wide and get out of her way, not encouraging her to go faster.)

Before he told us who the woman is, you could tell who it was from her form. Wow!
Amazing. I've not seen so much vertical movement in a 10k runner. She is so powerful!
She absolutely had a good day. :)
