I think that giving specific identities in the factions via this rank system is a brilliant idea and any opportunity to build thematically on cinema elements is more than welcome if that is the way they decide to go.
Just got into the game and stuck learning what's current what's not and what's to come just round the corner, got my head spinning tryin to learn everything
It was a fun interview. My thought/hope is that AMG is going to begin adding more named characters (Phoenix Squadron, Dryden Voss, Rebellion-era Obi-Wan, etc) and are looking into ways to make teams more flexible to allow players to run lists that reflect certain stories. Hopefully, the changes also allow you to run existing heroes in different configs than what presently exists (eg. Han Solo).
Perhaps the "standard" armies could be changed to combined Commander/Operative pools (min 1 being a Commander), like many of the battle forces do, as opposed to hard defined Commander and Operative quantities.
Honestly I think they might use traits to limit them. As an example for GAR: They might say something like every Jedi commander must have a clone commander/Operative. Seperatist might be something like, can only have 1 Droid commander and can only have 1 sith commander or something like that
Oh I like that idea. Specifically for GAR thats very on theme for them. Rebels I think would remain mostly unchanged. Not sure what Empire would look like. Maybe if you have a force using commander you can only have one commander? Either way having traits like this to limit them I would say that the number of commanders and operatives should be a lump number. For example, you can 1-4 commanders/operatives with one commander required.
To be honest, when I started listening, I started to get scared. Sounded a lot like Uniques were getting all the attention while standard units were going to be forgotten. Sounds a lot like what they did to x-wing. I don’t think they can go quite as far as they did with Xing with Legion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if AMG Figure out a way to make players use Uniques rather than generics on the board.
I’m thinking it will be something like you have to have at least one commander and then you can have 2-3 other commanders or operatives. So you could have 4 commanders in one list. I’d be good with that
As a separatist player. I think split commanders into 1 organic commander and 1 droid commander as we see tactical droids as advisor to Generals all the time.
I think for the Republic they should drop to one commander but have up to three operatives. They can take several commanders and give them a cheaper operative alternative card. Also adding in named padawans as operatives to. The Republic normally only had one commander for an army with support. Like Ankin commanding 501 but Rex and Ashoka supporting him.
Seppies are still missing Jango Fett, obvious operative right there, and present at the battle of Geonosis. I'm wondering if they are going to change any existing commanders to operatives or vice versa.
I have yet to play with the latest rule set. While I think having slight tweaks to the commander and operative limits for each faction might be interesting, it would add to the learning curve of the game and might not really make much difference in the grand scheme. Unless there is something inherently broken about having the limits be the same for all factions, I’d be fine with it staying as is.
I think if rebels had better ways of getting rid of suppression they would be pretty competitive. Rebels really need every unit to have 2 actions to make sure they get that good action economy working for them. Without dodge tokens they melt really fast.
Okay, so since I am not actively playing in tournament type games, I have a different perspective on some things. for example, I just lost a game to a friend who used his 1000 pts to build a non-faction specific bounty hunter coalition. since he went non-faction he was able to use different cmdrs and officers. I bring this up because he routinely plays in tournaments and is highly dismayed by the chance his commanders might change. I think that giving most of the factions an additional option of having a choice of adding either a cmdr or oper, would change the game. Maybe not both for them but given an option may just be the adjustment needed to make things a little more even on all sides. Not that the game is supposed to be even, I think that the empire is supposed to be stronger where the Rebels are supposed more flexible.
I think if they reduce the ability to play at least the same number of leaders and operatives that can already be played, people will get upset about not being able to play with all their toys.
So i grabbed a bunch of Rebels back when the pandemic started but I never got around to actually playing the game, I feel like I'll be at a certain advantage given that I won't have to un-learn a bunch of stuff if and when I ever get around to playing it LOL
Having played exactly 1 game, change won't impact me much. I am an Empire player so I am intrigued as to what they will do for this faction. All my theory crafting includes lists with two bounty hunters so I hope they maintain two operatives in this manner. I have a few Separatists pieces as well. Would love to see Durge come to the game. And of course, it wouldn't have been a clone army without Jango but he would be CIS.
As with many AMG offerings, I’m keeping my miniatures, ditching their rules, and switching to One Page Rules to play a skirmish. AMG has clearly lost their way.
Changing rank count feels like an overly fiddly way to tweak factions, and one that, the way you outline it seems like it would juste pidgeonhole factions, ngl? Also lol at the général idea of giving clones more love.
sorry, but clones need zero help currently in legion. Rebels need all the help. They gave clones every single trait in the game, including pierce that used to be exclusive to rebels. Sure rebels will finally get 12 black 6-unit dice sleeper cell units but that’s not going to be enough to win games against clones with red defense dice all through their line. I’ve tried to make rebel lists with as many red defense dice units as possible. It has made a small difference but not enough to win games.
Hello, Tim! Many of us were hoping your family was safe after the weather events of late. Glad to see you back on UA-cam!
That was a good interview by GSG. It could definitely make things interesting if they make the com & opt slots faction specific counts.
Right off the bat, AMG has to learn from the X-Wing/Armada debacle.
Thank you for the video!
exited to see these changes and how they end up working

Please give Rebels some love.
Please give Shadow Collective some units.
Thank you for being my main news feed for legion updates 😁

Yeah, I do not like that at all
I'm excited for this.
Just starting out with legion, seems to be a good time to do so!
Can't wait until Adepticon to hear all the upcoming changes
Stay safe during this hurricane, Crabbok!
Can't wait for mounted Obi Wan on that Boga monster
I’m thinking it will be something like you have to have at least one commander and then you can have 2-3 other commanders or operatives. So you could have 4 commanders in one list. I’d be good with that

I like this idea and I think it makes sense lorewise. Maybe tac droids don't count towards commander totals?
Awesome idea!
Count grievous as organic though,

Man I have high hopes for the impact of these potential changes on rebels. They need a more robust identity so badly.
Seppies are still missing Jango Fett, obvious operative right there, and present at the battle of Geonosis. I'm wondering if they are going to change any existing commanders to operatives or vice versa.
Whatever lets my rebels continue to improve I’m on board for.
maybe mercs will a their own slot? Or will not occupy a rank limit?
Great idea!
I am soo lost with legion, I need a new core box soo bad, I know the rules are up online but I need me a physical book

I think thematic but not necessarily canonical battle forces would be cool. Like the one you described where there is a kind of metagame going on
I would love to be able to run all the bounty hunters in empire with vader as a commander
I haven't seen the interview yet. Do we know when these changes will happen? Rebel love!
I would love more Shadow Collective support
NIght sisters should be added😢
I like the idea of faction identity but I also enjoy teach the game. having all factions the same makes it easier for new players to grasp.
I think if rebels had better ways of getting rid of suppression they would be pretty competitive. Rebels really need every unit to have 2 actions to make sure they get that good action economy working for them. Without dodge tokens they melt really fast.

Always an interesting decision to be made, what main character can I, should I take.
Hey good stuff.
Did we watch the same interview? I didn’t get that the ranks were getting changed at all.
I think if they reduce the ability to play at least the same number of leaders and operatives that can already be played, people will get upset about not being able to play with all their toys.
Interesting 🤔

I hope they don’t make this a game of heroes with troops and vehicles only as side pieces. That would be really sad
As with many AMG offerings, I’m keeping my miniatures, ditching their rules, and switching to One Page Rules to play a skirmish. AMG has clearly lost their way.
I've just stayed playing the FFG rules before AMG changed things
ATOMIC MASS GAMES!! MAKE PLO KOON FOR LEGION, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!!!
Changing rank count feels like an overly fiddly way to tweak factions, and one that, the way you outline it seems like it would juste pidgeonhole factions, ngl? Also lol at the général idea of giving clones more love.
I like your ideas, but I honestly feel that it should be a blanket change. Otherwise, Legion is becoming more like 40K......
We need back real legion …
Watch the Empire get 4 OP Slots😂
I hope it will not happen especially with CIS
