- This is just a quick video showing you how to remove the cylinder head on an XR650L. As always, feel free to comment below if you have any questions!
FYI: This video was made to work alongside my video on how to remove the valve cover, so if you didn't follow my guide there, you might need to follow a few more steps!

Great video series!
Thanks! I appreciate it! :)
Are you rebuilding your motor? Great video i just added a sutton cycle oil cooler and adjusted my valves. Mine is young 2016😂
I am indeed! 😁 Throwing in an XR600R piston in it, big fin kit, and having the cylinder Nikasil coated 💪
That sounds pretty fun I cant wait for ya to get it done . A bike only belongs one place riding!
I need to add one here in Phoenix. But can't find a easy good install video.
@@walkerfamilyoverlandingpho4826 I wish I was able to make an install video, but shortly I'll be headed off to basic training for the air force and I needed my XR back together quickly 😔. However, install was very easy between the Factory Service Manual [FSM] (has torque specs), and the Clymer Manual (has the tips and instructions with real pictures). The FSM is actually free via the XR650L Facebook Group under the 'Files' Section.
Excellent videos, I just subscribed.
In this video, I noticed right away that you installed a sweet-looking oil cooler + guard to the immediate left side of your 650L's engine. Do you have a video on buying and installing this nice piece of equipment?
Where did you obtain your oil cooler from?
It's a Sutton Oil Cooler. Unfortunately when I got it I did not make a video, but the instruction manual Mr.Sutton provides is arguable better than a video as it is THAT clear. It has pictures too! Would definitely recommend that!
@@one_terrabike3151 muchas gracias!
On re assembly of the cylinder head were you able to torque the 2 top head bolts or just snug them down?
The cylinder head has 6 bolts. Are you referring to the two located in the center?
@@one_terrabike3151 the 2 small top head bolts on the side that you used a small closed end wrench .
sorry I meant nuts
Those I just tighten down snug 😁
great work
I appreciate it!
Where can I find someone to check my bike because it only smokes when accelerating and changing gears
If it smokes on acceleration, you're likely due for new rings. I'd recommend you find a free copy of the factory service manual, a clymer manual, and use youtube to rebuild the top end yourself. the parts and tools will be much cheaper than a dealership even if you do a full overhaul.
I know someone really well, that will do a cylinder change on my bike for the right price..... 😁😂
Sir...your bike should not need a cylinder changed out 😂
