Basically: - An even better feeling of exploration, as in the original Zelda game (for example, finding dungeons in any place and not been signaled to you). - The game doesn't need to be afraid of being different and not being like the other Zelda games including BotW. - A parallelism between two different worlds, as did A Link to the Past with the light and the dark world. - A feeling of mystery like in Link's Awakening. - A big "plot twist" or difference in the story and gameplay like in Ocarina of Time with Young Link and Adult Link. - Amazing side-quests. - A relation with Breath of the Wild, as if some aspects of your game were also in the sequel (tunics...). - A new villain. - A better exploration of the sea. *Seems right to me.*
On the 'difference in gameplay' aspect: a simplistic but defined difference would be to have whatever mechanic repopulates the monsters (like the blood moon did in BotW) not kick in until Ganon is found and resurrected and for him to be found partway through the game. Probably wouldn't be enough for everyone, but I think it would be interesting.
Plot Twist: The real villain this whole time was actually an Ancient Shieka/Sheika, who manipulated Ancient Ganon, and now Ancient Ganon teams up with Link and Zelda to defeat the Ancient foe, but Ganon is too weak and you need to help him regain his power.
It would be really cool to find dungeons randomly while exploring but I feel like it could be too frustrating if you were missing a dungeon since you may have overlooked an area, maybe if you could find them before you are told about them but npcs in the region would give you hints if you were struggling.
I think hidden stuff is great, but they should always give you a resource to rely on if you're not sure where else to look or what to do. I think too many games try too hard to EITHER hold your hand and mark everything right away, OR tell you nothing, even if you're willing to accept some help. It's like in Morrowind how you can wander on your own and find crazy stuff if you look in the right places, or you can take on quests and you'll be guided to interesting places. (Unless you're getting directions from Mehrunes Dagon. That guy's terrible at giving directions. XD )
YES! Like in the original, when you are told, "There are secrets where fairies don't live" to help you find the next dungeon, but not telling you exactly where or how!
@@ConFlow247 Like if they had dungeon quests! A dungeon quest wouldn't be required, but it could have its own boss and theme and you could get a new heart container at the end like most dungeons.
Dude, I want that whole save file transfer thing you were talking about so bad! That just makes so much sense, I had wondered how they would handle that for a while now. Great video!
I really want it too! I don't want my countless hours of completing all 120 shrines and collecting the Tunic of the Wild to be wasted in Breath of the Wild 2 haha xD
I so agree being able to link BOTW & BOTW 2 would be so legit!. I think that would definitely add a new dynamic and more game play all that grinding was hella painful for the Master cycle...like Wth!!!!!!
As someone who owns the Wii U version instead of the Switch.. I feel like I'll be left in the dust because I've almost 100% completed the game on there.
I respect peoples opinion but saying The “memory” storytelling arc was a mistake i think is wrong. I thought it was different but fit very well with the open world and freedom feel of the game.
Also I'm 80% certain they'll keep it that way in the sequel despite the complaining. After all its a bunch of dlc ideas they wanted to do but couldn't due to how many they had. The ghost of Kakariko (a sheikah woman, already theorized to be dorian's late wife), might make an appearance. There was also talk of the aliens from MM reappearing and stealing cows...far as I know off the top of my head, there _is_ a stable or two that actually has cows and would be perfect. Them or poes would be good in the overworld. Poes around ruins, and the aliens in the open fields near the stables with cows and the ranch ruins. I really want them to put Epona in the game, not as amiibo, but have a group of horses nearby that have a chance to spawn Epona. _Something._ instead of rupees, they could've given out more exclusive gear or something. The mini game on Eventide could've given us the option to change our paraglinder's color--given we have materials.
@@mariachaib7026 I'm gonna guess it has something to do with people wanting to experience a story AS IT HAPPENS, rather than... well, remembering it, which I can understand, to be honest. I personally felt little attachment to the characters shown in those memories because I didn't interact with them very much. It was mostly just Link remembering the time he'd spent with them. And this is honestly why I may even recommend people start with that new Hyrule Warriors game which takes place 100 years in the past.
Jojoida Momoida Ooh i see, yeah it makes sense, i just think remembering all felt very mysterious and made me more intriguided to know what happened but thats just me, its good that hyrule warriors is coming out so we will get more info about what happened !!
Remember when you left the reply to this comment? *Now read your reply assuming there is one.* Memories just bog things down when every NPC speaks about how Link fell, Zelda was sealed, Zelda and Link failed. Those memories literally can be summed up in to 4 memories, Zelda, Zelda 2, Link, Link 2. This is why people hated it. Memories are used to create HONEST contradictions, new reasoning, and questioning what you know. When a memory plot or subplot doesn't do that it tends to be disliked because it did literally nothing.
Yeah, as someone who played BotW on the WiiU, that was the first thing that came to mind. Not to mention I ended up resetting my save file to lend the game to my mom, who used to be a huge Zelda fan, but she never ended up playing passed the Great Plateau. x.x All-in-all, no matter what, I'd be screwed there. X3
Indeed, that would be a bit of a problem. At the same time, it would also kinda suck for people who went through all the lenghts to collect the Tunic of the Wild, Master Cycle Zero, and other time consuming extra's... only to have all of it be gone in the sequel.
@@MonsterMaze I know it's the direct sequel to BotW, but I don't think giving the armor sets (for free) only to people who had them on the previous game is the best idea, specially considering that you're only giving advantages to more experienced players. But I do agree some kind of reward would be nice, like one special armor set. Although I'm sure they have already thought and done something about this.
@@DMG. i don't have a clue how they can fairly implement this, unless, if you can locally connect a wii u to the system, which is really difficult to do.
@Ana Pie Aww... yeah I know what you mean. My best save file for BotW was also on the Wii U by the way. I do have the game on Switch now (I sold my Wii U copy), but that file is nowhere near as complete as the one I had on the Wii U. That one was almost 100% with the exception of the Korok Seeds. In my Switch file I'm still missing multiple armor sets, DLC stuff, and haven't even completed all 120 shrines.
It would be cool to have a blacksmith in Breath of the Wild 2 that could repair player weapons. You often felt like you could not use your good weapons cause they would break, but you can't use the weak ones, because they don't do enough damage. It would be awesome to have a way to repair weapons, the repair cost could be equivalent to the type of weapon, rank of weapon, magical properties, and how damaged the weapon is.
Edit: Overall, absolutely fantastic list that I can mostly agree with for once. - - (I’d argue that BotW’s use of memories to tell the story of Hyrule’s fall was absolutely brilliant-it told a much more complete story than the franchise typically does, and BotW’s Map made the utter ruin of the kingdom much more impactful. In most games Ganon(dorf) or some other villain takes over, but other than a change of leadership and maybe the castle and/or castletown getting destroyed, the peoples’ daily lives aren’t affected at all. But that simply isn’t the case in BotW, and you’re constantly reminded of the Ruin and failure Link’s struggling to remember, even after being told about it directly and indirectly. The memories still have a different impact. (It’s quite honestly one of the very few times I’ve seen the Amnesia Trope used well and following how ACTUAL amnesia works in any source of media, and it complimented the NonLinear Approach of gameplay perfectly to tell one of the best albeit still simple stories in the franchise (and competing with top storytellers like MM, LA, and LBW). So in a way, BotW *did* have a Mystery in that it’s via memories and intentionally seeking out journals and listening to various NPCs vs speeding through their dialogue that we learn HOW Hyrule was destroyed so utterly)
thats a great perspective on it. It if of course at the end of the day a matter of preference. I didn't mind the meories. But I feel like there could have been more story present in the present day, and not have everything confined to the past. But thats just me ^^
Monster Maze I think LBW handled a good compromise in terms of storytelling, despite having a very nonlinear approach as well: Specific Events and Cutscenes were activated by how many pendants or sages Link collected or rescued. I think something like that would be a great compromise for BotW2
I like a lot of the ideas here. Although I will say I honestly enjoyed the memory bit from BOTW. That itself brought the element of mystery you want to take from Link's Awakening. I enjoyed finding out what the heck happened beyond just the obvious stuff. How did Link interact with the other characters and Zelda? Piecing together that relationship was a great drive for me to keep exploring and looking for the next memory. Obviously wouldn't ask for them to do that again. But I do appreciate it doing what it did.
was thinking on a theory on how, link and Zelda might be back in time in the first cutscene, trying to prevent the calamity from happening by finding the source they've learned about. but in their attempt doing so they awaken the source itself, being Ganondorf. might be the reason for the shrines not being above ground and hyrule castle, though from a distance, looks in better shape than it was in BOTW. (again, as far as the eye can see). perhaps the hint of the music playing in the trailer, sounding like it is in reverse no matter which way you listen to it ( reversing the theme still sounds like a reversed version and vice versa.... try saying that 3 times...). again its just a thought but to me it kind of fits.. seeing as the Zonai structures seem a bit less old within the location where Ganondorf is kept. ah well
Indeed. NBC did a great theory on that one. And I guess in many ways it does make sense. The only thing that debunk's this theory is that we still see some ruins in the overworld seen in the trailer. The wall of the great plateau for instance still looks as heavily damaged as it did after the Calamity.
@@MonsterMaze yeah I noticed that too, but which calamity is the question, seeing as the Great calamity of 10 000 years ago, though won, was a fight also. and according to the scripture/image of the previous hero and princess versus the calamity, it appears to be taking place in the midst of Hyrule field. so even then some damage couldve been done you know?, and if we go by other theories that great plateau is old castle town etc. it might've been partially ruined already seeing as its ancient.. its too bad you can't spot any settlements around in the footage. they would've given a bit more confirmation
my one wish for this sequel would be to link save files from the previous game SPOILERS FOR LIFE IS STRANGE: it would be so awesome if before you start the game it asks you if you've recovered all of the memories or not just like how in life is strange 2 it asks the player whether or not if they saved arcadia bay. i'd imagine there would be different dialogue choices/cutscenes... little things that let the player know that their decision to find them all impact how minor story beats playout. it would only make sense for a direct sequel...
I really hope the Zelda Team takes inspiration from that epic 4 stage Boss battle against Ganondorf in Twilight Princess especially from the one on one sword fight at the end because the Calamity Ganon fight was a bit weak.
The rest of these I could probably argue with but the one about majora's mask with the npc quests and the sensation that the people actually matter and are living in the world as the player is, is spot on.
Time travel in Botw 2 would be great. Going back 10 000 years ago to kill the source if Ganon to prevent his ressurection in the future. The maps geographical structure is still the same but is diffrent in many ways with towns, hyrule castle and the fields not being a wasteland. Thus still giving us the joy of exploring something new when exploring a place we have already explored in the previous game.
That's a great one! My old age makes me loyal to the original gold cart (it's actually the game that made me a gamer at 7yo) but TP was freaking awesome!
The save transfer idea reminds me of Golden Sun and its sequel on the GBA. The things that were transferred were: - Your inventory and stats, but I think that wouldn't work well for a Zelda game - Wether or not you completed certain sidequests: this would give you a few bonus unique items throughout the game, which were good but didn't break the game. I think that would actually fit well for Tarrey Town for example - It allowed you to access a bonus dungeon if you had found all (or almost all) djinn which were some sort of rare collectibles (roughly equivalent to heart pieces in terms of rarity and usefulness). I'm not sure if locking away an entire dungeon to people who haven't, say, completed all shrines for example, would be a good idea, but getting some sort of powerful unique item could be great
I would really love to see more of the plot during the actual course of the game, as well as stronger side quests with more personality like in Majora’s Mask. Gonna check out part 2 now!
This is an awesome video! I agree on every point, but you forgot one point shared between Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask, as well as Twiglight Princess! Atmoshpere! I originally had 3 things I missed in Breath of the Wild. 1-A secoundary, personal villain (I.E Vati, Zant, Ghirrahim) 2-The Hook Shoot or Grapling Hook.(Would make climbing in the rain a lot better) 3-The dark atmosphere.(This is the big one) When I play OoT, MM or TP I have the feeling that, while things look fine on the surface, if I where to look deeper into it all, I'd quickly discover that something is very wrong with the world. Like Kakariko Village from OoT, a happy vibrant town that hiddes a mind scarring darkness. Yes, you have a thin layer of niceity and wholesomeness, but once you look back at what drives you, you see how all of that with come crashing down if you don't do anything! It's like a large lake, it's shores are beautifull and vibrant, the shallow parts are clean and clear. Then you go out to the middle, and when you look down you see nothing but a deep dark abyss that contains something that will break the tranquility of the lake. That cold, deep dread of what is unknown and laying in wait at the bottom of the deep. Hope I didn't lose you in the allegory... But that's the best way I can explain it!
The more I think of it, then more I want this: Game-spanning "politicking/questing" (with Zelda) with the various Tribes of Hyrule to rebuild Central Hyrule - player ability to "barter/bargain/mediate" between the races results in different quality/size/composition/richness of city quarters, etc. Example: Who do you have rebuild Lon Lon Ranch: Hylians, Zora, Goron, Rito, Sheikah, or Gerudo? 1-Hylians neither exceed nor suck at rebuilding & running the ranch - Average in every way, 2-Zora have no idea how to ride horses, but they are business savvy and will introduce specific mini-games to play on horseback, 3-Goron also have no idea how to ride horses, but they can sure tame those wild stallions for you (they terrify the horses), 4-Rito are the exact opposite of the Zora: they can ride of all things, but they need a lot of help/player attention figuring-out how to run the place , 5-Sheikah are very adept with horses but have absolutely no clue how to operate a ranch in the open, may have to fight them tooth-and-nail depending on player choices to keep them from "hiding the ranch away", 6-Gerudo are absolutely excellent at running the ranch (and can even give toss-backs to the little teaser of wearing the Gerudo mask to Talon or Nabooru), but no-one initially trusts them so they're the slowest/hardest to rebuild the Ranch with. --Now, combine that concept with the various little village & garrison remains around Central Hyrule where the player can decide how to divvy-up Central Hyrule between the peoples in both sections and sizes (which reflects on Hyrule Castle Town or vice-verse)...maybe even some light resource management (who gets certain resources first, what resources to give out, etc., which effects both rebuild speed and quality for those specific peoples), politicking when it comes to disputes (like discovering and then having to deal with ancient rivalries between the peoples like the Rito & the Zora, for instance), things like that. Other things I want to see / see return from past games: Zelda as a guide (or even playable) character Classic/Updated dungeons, explorable caves (if not a full-fledged "Underworld"), etc. Return of ("ruined") previous dungeons (Level 1, Eastern Palace, Snowpeak Ruins) Expanded Overworld Upgradable Items (like a "Legendary Bow" that starts weak but upgrades & is unbreakable) Customizable combinable Weapons (Two words: "Bomb Spear". Three Words: "Boomerang Electric Hammer") Magic (BotW kinda did this with the Champion abilities, but Bombos) Sword Skills (like in Adventure of Link, Minish Cap, SoulCalibur II, etc.) Greater variety in enemies Diving Quality Subquests. BotW subquests were meh as the NPCs were mostly one-and-done while the rewards were lame. Gimme higher durable weapons/shields, Heart/Stamina Pieces, Treasure Maps, Clues to dungeon locations/access - and make the NPCs memorable! More weird abilities like shield surfing & "pot-lid time" (like walk on water as in AoL)
@Manek Iridius Oh, I dunno. It's more Zelda than Hyrule Warriors, that's for certain. This is, after all, a world-building/Kingdom re-building concept. Not like you wouldn't be doing the normal Zelda gameplay, as what I've suggested would simply be side content to go along with the full game. You know, like the second part of my suggestion of what I'd like to see return.
You mentioned a better sea-faring mechanic, but I'd love to see a complete overhaul of swimming to include diving. If the waters became expanded downward rather than outward, that adds the option of new creatures, secrets, and dungeon locations just the same.
I love that video! I felt very very good while watching it. All the heartwarming music in it made me feel so happy and calm. I'm not very happy with my life right now and that includes my gaming experiences. But somehow this video showed me why i love gaming! Thanks! Keep up the great work!
A link to the past was my first zelda game, I got it only a couple of year ago and I loved the game. I miss playing it, I hope they take inspiration from a link to the past. It was much more challenging than botw. Also keep up the amazing work! Your theories are always so thought out and interesting.
It's only challenging because of the limited movement you can do in that game. Also you constantly get hurt because you aren't invincible while being hit but for what seems to be for only half a second. And the damage adds up fast because of that. Also things just hurt.
I want breath of the wild 2 to learn from majora’s dungeons because they are easily the most consistently good dungeons in the series with 3/4 being in my top ten. Woodfall fell a little short and the great bay temple is my favourite dungeon in the series.
I really want the games to be linked through saved files. I spent so much time on Link, getting the house, getting the outfits, and getting the Spirit Orbs to increase his health and stamina. I want to be able to keep that.
It would be awesome to have to find the Dungeons yourself, I never finished it but one of the many Zelda style maps I tried to make in Minecraft, that's how I did it a lot of them were hidden and you might find some hint to where they were and the outside usually had some kind of statue or something outside it the idea being you'd see something out of place and find the entrance near by. Maybe one day I'll go back and finish at least one of my Zelda worlds in Minecraft because making the Dungeons puzzles and music was a lot of fun just kind of abandoned them. Anyway sorry for that off topic rant.
I would like it if they put detail into enemy camps like: this one is a armory, look at all the weapons here. This one is a village, they have huts and shacks here. Etc. like that would be cool they should add stuff to the overworld.
It’s been accepted at face value that Aonuma’s quote about the sequel means that the map will be the same one we had in BotW, however, that kind of detail of their plans has not been confirmed. The translation is: ‘we wanted to revisit the same world’, but that doesn’t meant they will reuse the same map or areas. It simply could mean that they wanted to continue the story in another location.
From Majora’s Mask (my all time favourite Zelda game), I would like towns in the sequel be like Clock Town. A fully realised town where everyone has a complete schedule that changes from day to day. That’s what I would like to see. Oh. And Tingle
"Zelda is at its best when it embraces its less traditional side" Though I agree with that, using Zelda II as the best example of that and not Majora's Mask is straight up insulting :S However I love how MM was referenced as the pinnacle of world building (incl. secondary characters).
____ ...there’s really not much you can say about ZeldaII other than that. Maybe the spells? But...that’s honestly it. (Which yeah, Handheld Zelda and Direct Sequels definitely did Weird with gameplay and story better in all regards.
I think the Majora's Mask's characters feel the most alive in part because their mortality is actually relevant in the game's story. Not only that, people's lives are greatly changed by some of your actions. People in Breath of the Wild have lives that don't really change, which at times can even be frustrating because you keep bumping into them randomly when they're in trouble again. The only exception is Tarrey Town, where people actually moved to somewhere else permanently and even experienced major life changes there. In that vein, I think it'd be awesome if Breath 2 had a major mechanic with rebuilding Hyrule and changing the world instead of having all enemies regenerate endlessly. It would give more purpose to the combat too since you'd have battles that permanently change things on the map. :) Just maybe avoid things like generic 'settlement attack' quests and stuff. We don't need Preston Garvey coming to warn us about another settlement that needs help every 20 minutes. XD (I also think Link and Zelda wandering Hyrule rebuilding peoples' lives and homes is really cute. :) )
"BOTW is the first time we've seen a direct sequel taking part almost straight after" umm really? Link's Awakening is the sequel Link to the Past, Majoras Mask is the sequel to Ocarina of Time, Spirit Tracks and Wind Waker......direct sequels with the same Link, happening right after the events of the previous game....
These are sequels in name only. They take place after the previous game, but aren't continuations in story or theme outside of the tiniest of hooks, like Link being on the search for Navi before being sidetracked into Termina. BotW looks to be a direct extension of the plot, setting and antagonist of the previous game, which isn't something we've ever seen before.
DYWYPI that is not what was said originally though. These were not “sequels in name only” they were continuations of that particular Link’s story, his next adventure. While BOTW2 is a continuation of BOTW’s story, which yeah, is the first time.
What to pull from Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask: massive underwater locations, or the ability to dive underwater in general. I'll never forget the feeling of putting on the iron boots for the first time and it taking 10 seconds for me to reach the bottom of the lake.
You can actually transfer some info over in "Infamous" and "Infamous 2". Simply from save file, "Infamous 2" can decide to continue your story if you completed the original. Or else it would start fresh. Maybe BotW 2 can do something like that to connect your info from BotW
1. Traveling to Lorule, Twilight Realm, Sacred realm or something else 2. Remembering the events of past Links & Zeldas, like the hero of men, or Downfall Ocarina Zelda, or the 2 Zeldas of Zelda 1 & 2! 3. Great Character designs & personality 4. new/returning villains 5. Mystery, including hidden areas 6. Shift in tone 7. Sea exploration, World of the Ocean King, New Hyrule over the sea!
Love your vids 👍 I also understand the frustration of mostly only finding shrines or koroks in botw I love exploration in botw but there wasn’t that much of a surprise most the time
I think the biggest issue I’ve noticed of this video is the fact what you guys are claiming to be lacked in BOTW is simply a negative. These things aren’t negatives, they are additions. Each Zelda game has been distinctive and different but you guys are asking that BOTW be a culmination of all the games. I’m gonna be honest and say it’s overly ambitious. It sounds good but when something is overly ambitious. There’s more room for mistakes. It’s taken cd projekt red forever to make cyberpunk 2077. That’s a huge example of overly ambitious. Nintendo Switch still has to be able to run and handle the game without the size being to massive. My point is, these things in the video are not negatives. They are welcome additions but it didn’t make or break BOTW because the game has its own identity just like the other Zelda games.
I think some of the biggest wishes I have for BotW2 is to be able to explore underwater and in caves, to have at least some permanent upgrades from quests and secrets, and alongside that, items and such that are totally unique and optional.
@@j_jbeast7874 oh yeah right... still tho, my hope is starting to fade, i mean it will release for sure, but we haven't gotten any news whatsoever since E3 2019. Also i wanted to thank you for righting me without being toxic, people like you are getting quite uncommon...
BoTW2 needs time travel and epic dungeons a la OoT, a sense of impending doom and an intricate tactic to avoid it along with an interwoven plot a la Majora's Mask (also love the mask abilities dynamics), a rewarding storyline and super interesting side quest locations like Windwaker, a dark-esque alternate world and GREAT non-generic terrain like Twilight Princess, some level of freshness and engaging gameplay like Skyward Sword, and an open world feel with lots of weapon choices like BoTW. I'm partial to Majora's Mask, OoT, and Twilight Princess, so if you take the best elements of all 3 and blend them, you'd get a fantastic result.
It would be sick if the game started with you beating Dark Beast Ganon and the game carry’s on right where you left off. And there are clear effects from the battle with DBG. And right from the get go there are odd signs of zombie ganondorf. First segment would be solving problems that still had leftover problems from Ganon. And suddenly you end up stumbling upon the cave beneath the castle
The one disagreement I have with this list is the Oracle style transfer of data between BOTW 1 & 2. It sounds cool in theory but really punishes anyone who played it on Wii U (like me), played it on an old console and got a new one for whatever reason, or never played it at all.
Now that I think about it, I almost wish that Nintendo *didn’t* reveal Ganondorf’s corpse in the trailer. I guess it depends on how the story actually plays out, but imagine how awesome it would be to play through half of the game having no idea that Ganondorf would return. Imagine if Nintendo kept it secret and didn’t include him in any promotional footage. Oh well, maybe they’ll have something else up their sleeve. I still think that white-skinned and white-haired villain teased in Age of Calamity could be Ghirahim wearing Ganondorf’s cloak. If that’s true that will be a HUGE twist, even if a few people may already be speculating it.
It reminds me of the last Star Wars movie. It would have been so much better if they didn't spoil Palpatine's return. The audience would've gone nuts in theaters...
I played a little of the original zelda game on my switch online virtual console and by "all the more satisfying" do you mean by "ooh i found a new thing!" or "Jesus H Christ i have been wandering around these screens for the past half hour looking for this goddamn dungeon this wiki is useless!" because i felt the ladder a lot more.
Of this List more than anything i want inspiration taken from Majora's Mask side quests. In a game the size of BOTW having interesting things to do and memorable people to meet are as integral to the overall experience as is the main story. Ps. I would love to hear your thoughts on what a post game could look like in BOTW's sequel, or about expanding upon the idea of multiple endings to the game.
As of right now, it's a bit hard to predict anything about the ending to Botw2, since we don't even know what the beginning is hehe. But perhaps they will once again reward players with a longer ending by completing a certain task.
My friend has been trying to get me to play ocarina of time again. Im that lucas and I will indeed play it again. I got the game back after not playing it for years. When I was younger I got frustrated an gave up, had a lot goin on. Now Im on a mission to fuffil my destiny an beat the game. Wish me luck friends
I honestly really liked the motion control combat of skyward, if that were an option that'd be great, in my opinion. I just think it added a level of difficulty and pride to winning a battle, like you actually deserve to have won the battle rather than enemies just absorbing hits for no reason and dealing out massive ammounts of damage.
Wonderful vid, as always! To be honest, there is one mechanic i would like to see, with a weak link to Majoras Mask. :) I would like to see Link expand his connection to the other champions in botw 2. Maybe (might be cringe) he could get stronger mentally and manifest Ravioli, urbosa, daruk and mipha like a JoJo-Stand! Would be nice to see them again. Because it doesnt seem to me that they found their peace at the end of botw. Have a nice week!
I think that it'd be cool if for botw 2 in the last fight for the final blow link gives, all the previous hero's spirits give link the strength to deal the final blow.
I wonder how it would work if Link & Zelda spend the entirety of Botw2 together. The only sort of companion you had in the first botw was your horse (and Wolf link with the amiibo) If so, I think it would be neat if you could switch between Link and Zelda. Each could have their own unique move sets which would surely open up more possibilities for combat and puzzles!
Id say just utilize the map more proficiently. I noticed after I beat the game. All quest and most side quest, minus like 5 or so, plus most shrines minus like 8 or 9. A vast majority of the map was unexplored. Got too focused on the task at hand, and once beat there was really no drive to even explore. Also, staying wierd would be for the first time Zelda not changing anything, just a pure expansion of stories and side quests
I want missions in BOTW 2 that go back to the past, like the illusory realm, Link has to win this time to pass these super difficult missions, there even could be a mission where you have to fight an infinite amount of guardians, just to see how long you can last before you collapse, that would be amazing.
My feelings on the matter- trying not to copy your list. LoZ: Open exploration but with limits. Too much freedom takes away from the essential Zelda experience. AoL: Link's original appearance. I know we won't get this, based on the trailer, so at least give us early access to Link's original green tunic. His new design sucks. LttP: Non-essential items like the canes of Byrna and of Somaria. LA: A menu screen with music. Seriously. OoT: A more interesting and varied inventory and items. MM: Nailed this one, I need say no more. Oracles: More directly useful (or just fun) collectibles like the rings. WW: A magical musical instrument. FS: Is the Four Sword too much to hope for? Maybe as an amiibo reward? FSA: Dark Link as an actual character. MC: Kinstones! These are a great collectible which have an awesome variety of effects, some event altering the course of events in the game in small ways. It's so sad kinstones have never made a return! TP: More substantial ties to previous games. Lore is better than Easter egg references. PH: A well fleshed-out companion for your travels like Linebeck. Linebeck does not get enough love. ST: Zelda as a straight-up playable character. I want co-op or at least switchable character control, like with Gongoron in PH and Kafei in MM, but specifically for Zelda. SS: What you said, but to add something more general, an unbreakable Master Sword. HW: Linkle ALBW: So much I want to take from my favorite game in the series, but to name just one: More varied puzzle-solving, that uses more than just the items in your inventory. TFH: A kickass soundtrack! 90% of BotW's soundtrack can go suck on a cucco. TFH has one of the best in the series. Take notes! BotW: Ruins to explore and theorize about!
"Its also the first time we've seen a direct sequel to a game that takes place almost right after - and stars the same link and zelda" Phantom hourglass: Am I a joke to you
As much as I like the concept of transferring your weapons from the first game, I don´t think it´s gonna happen. The new game most likely won´t come out on WiiU, so it would be really unfair for those who didn´t play the original on the Switch.
It's not like you can't play it again on Switch. For example, you don't have to carry your save file over on the Witcher series, either, but you can. It's just a nice bonus. Console players can't even do it, but pc players can. Is that also unfair? It'd be interesting to play it both ways. One with a previous save, and one without.
Basically:
- An even better feeling of exploration, as in the original Zelda game (for example, finding dungeons in any place and not been signaled to you).
Great summary ^^
On the 'difference in gameplay' aspect: a simplistic but defined difference would be to have whatever mechanic repopulates the monsters (like the blood moon did in BotW) not kick in until Ganon is found and resurrected and for him to be found partway through the game. Probably wouldn't be enough for everyone, but I think it would be interesting.
I hope they actually do it
Really hope our saves on BotW doesn't affect 2, i barely have anything done on the Switch version
I really hope it’s like a more open game like BotW but with great story and dungeons like all the other Zeldas. This could really be the best one yet.
It would be really cool to find dungeons randomly while exploring but I feel like it could be too frustrating if you were missing a dungeon since you may have overlooked an area, maybe if you could find them before you are told about them but npcs in the region would give you hints if you were struggling.
Basically shrine quests but better
Yeah, it would be bad if they are too hidden. I wouldn't want them to put a lot of work into a dungeon most people will not find.
Like you get to keep your hearts and stamina, and maybe even champions abilities.
...nah
As someone who owns the Wii U version instead of the Switch.. I feel like I'll be left in the dust because I've almost 100% completed the game on there.
If breath of the wild sequel gave us seasons. I’d love to watch Hyrule Field covered by a blanket of snow.
The mini game on Eventide could've given us the option to change our paraglinder's color--given we have materials.
i thought the capturing memories and finding out about the stories in pieces was honestly so smart and cool, idk why people didnt like it :/
@@mariachaib7026 I'm gonna guess it has something to do with people wanting to experience a story AS IT HAPPENS, rather than... well, remembering it, which I can understand, to be honest.
*Now read your reply assuming there is one.*
Memories just bog things down when every NPC speaks about how Link fell, Zelda was sealed, Zelda and Link failed.
I just subbed what a perfect timing

I like the idea of your BotW save influencing things in "BotW Sequel", but it would be a bit unfair for people who played BotW on the Wii U.
Yeah, as someone who played BotW on the WiiU, that was the first thing that came to mind.
Not to mention I ended up resetting my save file to lend the game to my mom, who used to be a huge Zelda fan, but she never ended up playing passed the Great Plateau. x.x
All-in-all, no matter what, I'd be screwed there. X3
Indeed, that would be a bit of a problem. At the same time, it would also kinda suck for people who went through all the lenghts to collect the Tunic of the Wild, Master Cycle Zero, and other time consuming extra's... only to have all of it be gone in the sequel.
@@MonsterMaze
I know it's the direct sequel to BotW, but I don't think giving the armor sets (for free) only to people who had them on the previous game is the best idea, specially considering that you're only giving advantages to more experienced players.

(I’d argue that BotW’s use of memories to tell the story of Hyrule’s fall was absolutely brilliant-it told a much more complete story than the franchise typically does, and BotW’s Map made the utter ruin of the kingdom much more impactful.
But thats just me ^^
Monster Maze
I think LBW handled a good compromise in terms of storytelling, despite having a very nonlinear approach as well:
Specific Events and Cutscenes were activated by how many pendants or sages Link collected or rescued.
My favorite games in order were Botw, Ocarina Of Time, Windwaker, OG Link Awakening and Twilight Princess, etc...
I’d like to see an ocarina style, well ocarina (or similar). Something musical which you can use for multiple purposes in the overworld.
my one wish for this sequel would be to link save files from the previous game
SPOILERS FOR LIFE IS STRANGE: it would be so awesome if before you start the game it asks you if you've recovered all of the memories or not just like how in life is strange 2 it asks the player whether or not if they saved arcadia bay. i'd imagine there would be different dialogue choices/cutscenes... little things that let the player know that their decision to find them all impact how minor story beats playout. it would only make sense for a direct sequel...
My favourite Zelda game was twilight princess, the memories
Definitely the best Zelda game, storywise and gameplaywise
Mines gotta be Majoras Mask. Top tier.

@@cond.oriano3264 for you.
I hate being a typical joe but OoT was Sex in a N64 also nostalgia gets me
Great stuff! I also like how this video was organized and presented.
The save transfer idea reminds me of Golden Sun and its sequel on the GBA. The things that were transferred were:
- Your inventory and stats, but I think that wouldn't work well for a Zelda game
- Wether or not you completed certain sidequests: this would give you a few bonus unique items throughout the game, which were good but didn't break the game. I think that would actually fit well for Tarrey Town for example
- It allowed you to access a bonus dungeon if you had found all (or almost all) djinn which were some sort of rare collectibles (roughly equivalent to heart pieces in terms of rarity and usefulness). I'm not sure if locking away an entire dungeon to people who haven't, say, completed all shrines for example, would be a good idea, but getting some sort of powerful unique item could be great
Production quality has just increased exponentially since the first vid. Great stuff, man
Video: "get to explore more about the 100 year war....."
Nintendo: I'ma stop you right there....
Great video Monster Maze and Xenogamer! Loved it!
1-A secoundary, personal villain (I.E Vati, Zant, Ghirrahim)
2-The Hook Shoot or Grapling Hook.(Would make climbing in the rain a lot better)
3-The dark atmosphere.(This is the big one)
When I play OoT, MM or TP I have the feeling that, while things look fine on the surface, if I where to look deeper into it all, I'd quickly discover that something is very wrong with the world.
The more I think of it, then more I want this:
Game-spanning "politicking/questing" (with Zelda) with the various Tribes of Hyrule to rebuild Central Hyrule - player ability to "barter/bargain/mediate" between the races results in different quality/size/composition/richness of city quarters, etc. Example: Who do you have rebuild Lon Lon Ranch: Hylians, Zora, Goron, Rito, Sheikah, or Gerudo?
1-Hylians neither exceed nor suck at rebuilding & running the ranch - Average in every way,
2-Zora have no idea how to ride horses, but they are business savvy and will introduce specific mini-games to play on horseback,
3-Goron also have no idea how to ride horses, but they can sure tame those wild stallions for you (they terrify the horses),
4-Rito are the exact opposite of the Zora: they can ride of all things, but they need a lot of help/player attention figuring-out how to run the place ,
5-Sheikah are very adept with horses but have absolutely no clue how to operate a ranch in the open, may have to fight them tooth-and-nail depending on player choices to keep them from "hiding the ranch away",
6-Gerudo are absolutely excellent at running the ranch (and can even give toss-backs to the little teaser of wearing the Gerudo mask to Talon or Nabooru), but no-one initially trusts them so they're the slowest/hardest to rebuild the Ranch with.
Other things I want to see / see return from past games:
Zelda as a guide (or even playable) character
Classic/Updated dungeons, explorable caves (if not a full-fledged "Underworld"), etc.
Return of ("ruined") previous dungeons (Level 1, Eastern Palace, Snowpeak Ruins)
Expanded Overworld
Upgradable Items (like a "Legendary Bow" that starts weak but upgrades & is unbreakable)
Customizable combinable Weapons (Two words: "Bomb Spear". Three Words: "Boomerang Electric Hammer")
Magic (BotW kinda did this with the Champion abilities, but Bombos)
Sword Skills (like in Adventure of Link, Minish Cap, SoulCalibur II, etc.)
Greater variety in enemies
Diving
Quality Subquests.
Oh definitely. I have a whole episode about underwater stuff. I think it's probably one of the most important things missing in Breath of the Wild.
Monster Maze truthfully, I'd even settle for just better regular swimming. It's one of the worst mechanics in the game, in my opinion.
I love that video!
I felt very very good while watching it. All the heartwarming music in it made me feel so happy and calm.
I'm not very happy with my life right now and that includes my gaming experiences.
But somehow this video showed me why i love gaming!
Thanks! Keep up the great work!
I have thought of the linking save files thing before and it is cool to finally hear one of my favorite chanells bring it up.
I still think we will visit hyrule 10K years in the past. They can still use the old map and adjust some stuff
I would love it if they made the side quests longer and more elaborate! More like that shrine quest in kakariko plz :)
What a great video! Hope to watch soon part 2 💪
I don't remember collabbing for this. hee.
These are pretty good traits it could take from these games. Looking forward to part 2
Two Major fixes:
- Better durabillity system
- Harder/more Limited perfect dodging
And a Coop with Zelda on one console would be nice ;)
I want breath of the wild 2 to learn from majora’s dungeons because they are easily the most consistently good dungeons in the series with 3/4 being in my top ten. Woodfall fell a little short and the great bay temple is my favourite dungeon in the series.
My personal favorite is Stone Tower. :)
great work as usual. id hope that they nail ganondorf in the sequel. I don't want him to act like a mindless zombie like his design suggests.
Etc. like that would be cool they should add stuff to the overworld.
busting out that content i love it! great work, keep it up!
one thing i found lacking in botw was the iconic soundtracks. they're so subtle you can barely tell they're there at all
Awesome choice for the thumbnail
It’s been accepted at face value that Aonuma’s quote about the sequel means that the map will be the same one we had in BotW, however, that kind of detail of their plans has not been confirmed. The translation is: ‘we wanted to revisit the same world’, but that doesn’t meant they will reuse the same map or areas. It simply could mean that they wanted to continue the story in another location.
From Majora’s Mask (my all time favourite Zelda game), I would like towns in the sequel be like Clock Town. A fully realised town where everyone has a complete schedule that changes from day to day. That’s what I would like to see.
Oh. And Tingle
"Zelda is at its best when it embraces its less traditional side"
Though I agree with that, using Zelda II as the best example of that and not Majora's Mask is straight up insulting :S However I love how MM was referenced as the pinnacle of world building (incl. secondary characters).
I mean, Majora's Mask was still quite similar to Ocarina of Time, so...
@@JadeJuno Visually yes, but in its themes, characters, story, world building, and gameplay mechanics.. very far from it.
@@thisisfyne in gameplay it's quite similar at least compared to Zelda II and the other games of the franchise (?

...there’s really not much you can say about ZeldaII other than that. Maybe the spells? But...that’s honestly it.

Gølder06
Other than the ocarina (which MM did SO much better) and the shared art style... the two games really couldn’t be any more different
XD
(I also think Link and Zelda wandering Hyrule rebuilding peoples' lives and homes is really cute.
Linking the two games would be so genius!!
(Also.. "*Link*ing.." ha)
You can actually transfer some info over in "Infamous" and "Infamous 2". Simply from save file, "Infamous 2" can decide to continue your story if you completed the original. Or else it would start fresh. Maybe BotW 2 can do something like that to connect your info from BotW

2. Remembering the events of past Links & Zeldas, like the hero of men, or Downfall Ocarina Zelda, or the 2 Zeldas of Zelda 1 & 2!
3. Great Character designs & personality
4. new/returning villains
5. Mystery, including hidden areas
6. Shift in tone
7. Sea exploration, World of the Ocean King, New Hyrule over the sea!

Love your vids 👍
I also understand the frustration of mostly only finding shrines or koroks in botw
I love exploration in botw but there wasn’t that much of a surprise most the time
I think the biggest issue I’ve noticed of this video is the fact what you guys are claiming to be lacked in BOTW is simply a negative.
Ahhh so much to think about!
I can't wait for this game.
I think some of the biggest wishes I have for BotW2 is to be able to explore underwater and in caves, to have at least some permanent upgrades from quests and secrets, and alongside that, items and such that are totally unique and optional.
Or... they could make prequel with Hyrule Warriors 🤯

This is good, but I think they’ll do alright. The only thing I have as a preference is an actual hard boss.
Maybe they could add something like going back and forth between an old link and a teenage 100 year old link. We need a breaded grey link
Yes, gimme gimme. It's about time we have an old man Link
Hello @MonsterMaze I am about to watch your video
I just wanted to say hi and to thank you for putting your time and effort into your content.
I know. He’s really underrated. Keep up the great work! 👊
@@PHO3N1X_28 he is getting bigger tho, i mean he got like 50k subs in 3 months
Thanks! I gladly put in the time and effort
Nice vid 👌 keep it up!
“Having both traveling between dimensions AND time travel would perhaps be too much”
Netflix: laughs in Dark
Studying can wait, monster maze just released a new video
My friend has been trying to get me to play ocarina of time again. Im that lucas and I will indeed play it again. I got the game back after not playing it for years. When I was younger I got frustrated an gave up, had a lot goin on. Now Im on a mission to fuffil my destiny an beat the game. Wish me luck friends
Good luck, and have fun! Destiny awaits you Lucas ^^
You should probably play zelda bro
I honestly really liked the motion control combat of skyward, if that were an option that'd be great, in my opinion. I just think it added a level of difficulty and pride to winning a battle, like you actually deserve to have won the battle rather than enemies just absorbing hits for no reason and dealing out massive ammounts of damage.
Wonderful vid, as always! To be honest, there is one mechanic i would like to see, with a weak link to Majoras Mask. :)
I would like to see Link expand his connection to the other champions in botw 2. Maybe (might be cringe) he could get stronger mentally and manifest Ravioli, urbosa, daruk and mipha like a JoJo-Stand! Would be nice to see them again. Because it doesnt seem to me that they found their peace at the end of botw.
Have a nice week!
Dude, the gods of zelda listen to my plead, at least partially *-* can we expect a hyrule warriors vid? :D
I'm picturing Zelda either being a playable character, or a companion. Actually fighting with her and protecting her would be sick for a zelda game.
I think that it'd be cool if for botw 2 in the last fight for the final blow link gives, all the previous hero's spirits give link the strength to deal the final blow.
Time travel is now pointless in BotW 2 as Age of Calamity was announced
i think a musical instrument should make a come back from OOT
I wonder how it would work if Link & Zelda spend the entirety of Botw2 together. The only sort of companion you had in the first botw was your horse (and Wolf link with the amiibo)
If so, I think it would be neat if you could switch between Link and Zelda.
The linking idea is fucking amazing. That would be awsome
What I would like to see is the ability to control the seasons again. THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!
13:14 But I ALREADY play zelda...
Good!
I want missions in BOTW 2 that go back to the past, like the illusory realm, Link has to win this time to pass these super difficult missions, there even could be a mission where you have to fight an infinite amount of guardians, just to see how long you can last before you collapse, that would be amazing.
I just want music to be a core mechanic again, bring back the ocarina!!
HW: Linkle
ALBW: So much I want to take from my favorite game in the series, but to name just one: More varied puzzle-solving, that uses more than just the items in your inventory.
TFH: A kickass soundtrack! 90% of BotW's soundtrack can go suck on a cucco. TFH has one of the best in the series. Take notes!
BotW: Ruins to explore and theorize about!
They just anounced the Prequel lol
I first played BotW on Wii U, but I'm playing it again on the switch in the hope that might be some save game compatibility in BotW 2.
imagine watching this after the botw prequel was announced
That's what I'm doing, I hadn't watched this yet
Imagine that!
"Its also the first time we've seen a direct sequel to a game that takes place almost right after - and stars the same link and zelda"
Phantom hourglass: Am I a joke to you
Great video as usual man!
Thank you for mentioning flaws in BotW's game design. Way, way over hyped Zelda game, IMO
Getting special equipment is one thing I miss in botw. Hook-shot, spinner,
Ooh, can you imagine a spinner-esque item in BotW's open world setting?
On the note of sea exploration, I want to see pirate bokoblins
Yargh!
we... we weren't supposed to burn all the bushes? ... *shuffles lit torch under the rug*
