Fernanda Torres delivered the best performance in cinema this season!
Demi Moore too
Great review... thanks for watching our movie; Brazil is so proud of this movie.
Fernanda Torres performance was simply amazing!!
Another cool detail: as a teen, Walter Salles himself was a friend of one of the daughters in the Paiva household, so he was actually part of that circle for a while and could rely on his own memories to help make the movie.
l'm still here is my favorite movie of the year and Fernanda Torres is amazing...she deserves all awards for this role! 💯👏
Espero que os votantes da Academia te ouçam
The sniffling around... Man! So true. Same thing here: sold out, not one dry eye. And I keep watching reviews and It all comes back to me and I start crying again
I'm glad that you enjoyed the film ^-^ As a brazillian I'm really happy that people are enjoying it and to hear that the seats were all sold out!
I really think it deserves all the three Oscars it was nominated for, not to dismiss the others.
I'm just a bit bummed that Walter Salles wasn't nominated for Best Director, or even Best Editing. He's a wonderful person and a really talented director/editor/writer
Wow, 10/10.
Great!
It's amazing how a surprise nomination can bring so much publicity, a very deserved one
I'm going to add a little more context to the film:
All of of the songs that the family listens at the house are musics from musicians that got censured during the dictarshiop and the songs that we listen on the radios are popular songs, but from artists that were complict with the regime.
When the military come to kidnap Rubens you can see them lurking around, looking at their vinyl collection and books, they were actually looking for "subversive" material.
Also: the helicopter thar flies by them at the beach, were used to drop bodies at the sea. We only found that about that decades later.
Walter was very clever about that, but again: you have to be brazillian to know that
I really dont know why it didnt got nominated for adapted screanplay :(
Num sabia disso mas amei!!!!
Angelique, desculpe perguntar, mas você existe mesmo ou é sonho meu? Até sobrenome a gente compartilha.
@BokoMoko65 hahha serioo? Qual?
"Adeus Paris tropical, adeus Brigite Bardot
O champanhe me fez mal, caviar já me enjoou
Simonal que estava certo, na razão do patropi
Eu também que sou esperto vou viver no Piauí"
Kkkk O Walter foi MARAVILHOSO
Ele pensou em tudo
Merecia muito roteiro adaptado e melhor diretor
I’m Still Here best and Fernanda Torres top 🇧🇷🇧🇷😍
I’m still here ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻‼️‼️‼️‼️
Thanks for your beautiful review! One detail: she became a human rights activist and lawyer only some years after her husband's disappearence.
So I thought I did say that it happened after, but I guess I forgot. Sorry about that. Thanks for the note!
I was about to tell that
WOWWWW. 10/10? Thank you so much!
Great review! i’m still here represents brazilian movies and history so well! O love it
I hope it wins an Oscar!
Amazing reviews! Congratulations 🎈🎉🍾
Ainda Estou Aqui é monumental🥹🧡
Wow, 10/10. I totally agree, the minute I left the movie theater I thought "this is the best movie I saw this year", and it was the end of 2024.
Wow! I didn't think I was going to get emotional again but just as you start describing the movie I did... It's been a long time since I've seen a film that could do this to me. I don't see a movie this year more powerful than this one.
I'm sure many foreigners (to us Brazilians) thought all the buzz in Brazil was just passionate, like a soccer crowd! But the thing is, the movie is truly incredible-the kind of art that’s subtle yet deeply moving. So it was more like saying: "Watch this movie, I’m sure you’ll love it!" Fortunately, people are watching it, at a time when the story of an authoritarian government, told from such an intimate and familiar perspective (in every sense), really hits heart.
Thanks for covering it
"I'm Still Here" and Fernanda Torres deserve Oscar recognition! With the resurgence of authoritarianism worldwide, this film's powerful story of resistance against dictatorship is more relevant than ever. It serves as a crucial reminder of the fragility of democracy and the importance of fighting for human rights and justice. The film's exceptional script provides a compelling narrative, while the masterful direction brings the story to life with impactful visuals and emotional depth. Fernanda Torres delivers a nuanced and complex performance, capturing the strength, vulnerability, and unwavering determination of a woman facing unimaginable challenges. Her portrayal is both captivating and deeply moving, resonating with audiences on a profound level. "I'm Still Here" is not just a film; it's a powerful testament to the human spirit and a call to action against oppression, making it a crucial and compelling cinematic experience that deserves to be celebrated.
Thanks for the review! Let's spread the word about this amazing movie! 🇧🇷❤️
As a Brazilian, I'm very proud of this movie! I'm glad you liked it!
I understand that this movie was doing some buzz when I watched an American review that cited a Pakistani article about the story behind. Was like “ok, we reach the entire earth now”
Glad you like it. I cried a lot, specially in the ice cream scene.
a correction: Eunice Paiva wasn’t a human rights activist at the beginning of the film. She became a lawyer after her husband disappeared, when she moved to São Paulo with her family.
Fernanda 💛💚
thank you for this review! It would be a dream if this movie won an Oscar! its a masterpiece and Fernanda Torres is a such star
Fernanda❤❤❤
It is my favorite movie of the year! Fernanda is out of this world
I totally agree. That's one of the best movies of the year. A masterpiece!!!!!
Great review! I loved this movie so much!

Agree 🎉. Good enough.
I agree, Fernanda is phenomenal. The movie is also incredible.
Great review! We brazilians are so proud of this movie and all the recognition It’s getting. #imstillhere
Oh my God 10, it's fenomenal
10/10!! thank you very much for this great review!!
10 out of 10 sounds about right, it was the best movie I have seen in a long time. Emotional, great performances, especially by Fernanda Torres, and the direction is on point.
Glad you love the movie!
Amazing movie and your review was great!
Fernanda Torres was the best actress of the year. But the giants of movie industry are playing dirty against her and the film. Unfortunately, money will win not the art.
Great review!
SOME INFORMATION
💎 I'm Still Here is the first Portuguese-spoken movie to be nominated to the Oscar of Best Picture and the sixth that was nominated to Best Foreign Language Film (the fifth representing Brazil).
💎 Fernanda Torres's mother, Fernanda Montenegro was the first latin actress nominated to the Oscar of Best Actress (Katy Jurado, Rita Moreno and Norma Aleandro had already been nominated as Supporting Actress) and, to date, she was the only Portuguese-spoken actor nominated to the award, but her daughter just repeated this. That was in 1999, with the movie Central Station, also directed by Walter Salles and nominated to Best Foreign Language Film.
💎 Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro played in Four Days in Septemper, brazilian movie nominated to the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film in 1998, also about brazilian dictatorship period.
💎 Fernanda Torres, aged 20, won the award for Best Actress at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival by the movie Love Me Forever or Never (tied with Barbara Sukowa, by Rosa Luxemburg). She was the first brazilian actress (of two) to win an award in Cannes. The second one was Sandra Corveloni that, coincidentally, was directed by Walter Salles.
💎 Fernanda Torres was the fourth brazilian actor nominated to Golden Globe, but the second with a Portuguese-spoken performance. The first one was her mother. The other nominees were Sônia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Moon Over Parador and The Burning Season) and Wagner Moura (Narcos).
💎 I'm Still Here is the fourth movie of Walter Salles to be nominated to the Golden Globe of Best Foreign Language Film (Central Station won, and the other nominees were Behind the Sun and Motorcycle Diaries) and the second nominated to the Oscar of the same category (Central Station was the first)
💎 Fernando Torres, father of Fernanda Torres (yes, they got the same name), played in Kiss of Spider Woman (4 nominations to the Oscar 1986, William Hurt won Best Actor)
💎 Fernanda Torres gained a pop star quality in Brazil because her performances in the sitcoms Normal People and Slaps and Kisses.
We are honored with your analysis, you understand well what we Brazilians are trying to show the world! Could you do an analysis of the film Central Station?
I cried so much at the cinema that I even bothered others. I didn't live through the dictatorship but I see that there is an escalation of fascism and Nazism again and that is devastating. That's one of the reasons why this film is so current and important.
Thanks 4 the review.
Fernanda Torres delivers an extraordinary performance in I’m Still Here, demonstrating her mastery of nuance, depth, and emotional intensity. With every scene, she captivates the audience, balancing raw vulnerability with a quiet strength that lingers long after the credits roll. Her ability to convey complex emotions with subtle expressions and precise timing is a testament to her artistic maturity and deep understanding of the craft.
What makes her portrayal truly remarkable is the authenticity she brings to the role-every gesture, every silence, every glance feels deeply lived-in, as if she is not merely performing but embodying the very essence of the character. This level of commitment transforms the film into an immersive experience, making it impossible to look away.
Her Golden Globe recognition is well deserved, not just as an acknowledgment of this singular performance but as a celebration of a career defined by excellence, fearlessness, and an unwavering dedication to storytelling. Beautiful movie, a masterpiece. Hats off to TORRES. Congrats Brazil 👏👏👏
You're review is spot on. You summarized very well what makes this a great movie and Fernanda Torres's performance. About the reaction of the audience, I was one of the many that had tears rolling my eyes. As a Brazilian who lived throught that time, I assure you, that period in our history is portraied faithfully to every detail. For those who haven't seen it, go! This movie was made to be watched at a theater.
I think that 'I'm Still Here' is the best movie of 2024.
FERNANDA TORRES ❤ I'M STILL HERE!
Enjoyed your review. Thank you. 😊
It's great that you liked it. It's a film in an unknown context (Brazilian dictatorship) and for a specific audience (adults). It's really cool that it's having a good reception there.
O filme se tornou um fenômeno aqui no Brasil. Mais de 4 milhões de espectadores já foram assistir. É maravilhoso ver o reconhecimento de Hollywood.
Torres deserves to win! 👏👏👏
If Sonny had made a bigger campain sooner I'm pretty sure Walter Salles would've been nominated for Best Direction. Rightfully so.
Né? Faltou ele e o melhor roteiro adaptado também.
Obrigado pelo video review!! 🥹🇧🇷
Fernanda is fantastic. Great actress
Thanks for your review, this movie needs to reach as many people as possible. It is an amazing piece of art.
The million-dollar question…
Is Fernanda’s mother also going to the Oscars? 🎉🎉
OMG! It would be amazing!
Thank you so much for talking about it💚💛
My favorite film of the season, Fernada performance is certainly the best
Thank you for your review ❤
Amazing Fernanda
Thank you for pronouncing Salles correctly ❤
Fernanda Torres is superb in this film. She deserves to win, without any doubt. And for those who love a movie with the whole package, I'm Still Here is the best this year.
I’m glad you enjoyed the story of Still Here; I share the same feelings and experience as you! Walter’s direction is brilliant, and Fernanda Torres’ performance is simply impeccable. As David Fear wrote for Rolling Stone, "To say that Torres digs into the role of Eunice Paiva would be an understatement." It’s a film that has so much to say and says so much with so few words...
Thank you for your review
The movie kind of stays with you.... I still see myself thinking about it, and I cried a bunch during the movie
I’m still here needs to be seen
The film The Substance has the same premise as the Brazilian TV series "The Formula".
I'm still here is a great movie. Fernanda Torres delivered an Oscar-worthy performance. She and the movie deserve an Oscar.
Do you know what is most incredible about this film? Hollywood doesn't have the capacity to make a film like this. It's authentic, touching and powerful. It should be valued for that.
This movie is really important for us here in Brazil because it deals with a theme that still haunt us to this day. That's why we are so proud of it ❤
Awsome Review!!! 10/10!!!
Be careful, this comment contains spoilers.
Thank you for the review, this film is very important for us Brazilians, a film that rescues a memory that was being lost, a memory that shows us what we should never return to. Eunice Paiva was an extraordinary woman who made her difference in the world, graduating as a lawyer at the age of over 45, fighting for human rights and the rights of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, Brazilian indigenous people owe a lot to Eunice who helped create several reserves that today protect the Amazon and the forests of Brazil that still remain. Fernanda performs in her gesture, her gaze and her contained pain. It shows the strength of this woman who, despite everything she went through, remained standing and raised her children and formed them with dignity and resilience. Fernanda didn't need to dishevel her hair to convey the feelings she wanted and that for a performance is something complex. Eunice died with Alzheimer's, her memory in life is gone, but in history her memory will remain alive forever.
Thank you so much!
Very touching, powerful and beautiful.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 great review
Have you seen Auto da Compadecida (the original, not the sequel) ? Give it a try.
Fernanda's perfomance is spectacular 🎉
Thank you for it 😊
The extra information in the end credits is sweeping, knowing that no one has been punished after all this is heartbreaking.
Nice review
Fernanda Torres and this movie broke me ❤️🩹
"I'm Still Here", this film showcases the strength of Eunice Paiva, whose family was attacked by the bloody military dictatorship, which was supported, financed, and maintained by the US at the time. It wasn't just Eunice Paiva's family that was affected, but many families were destroyed by the military dictatorship. The cruelty of the military dictatorship was so great that they didn't hesitate to torture and kill those accused of being communists.
The military in Brazil, with some exceptions, kidnapped young girls, still children, to rape and then kill, and the well-known young women who were arrested were raped and tortured. Imprisoned parents saw their children tortured, and if they were girls, they were not only tortured but also raped. Brilhante Ulstra, who was friends with Bolsonaro, "a friend of the current US President, Donald Trump," tortured innocents, raped children, killed, and disappeared bodies.
The Brazilian Navy threw people alive into the sea, without even bothering to tie them up, leaving them swimming in the open sea, to die exhausted trying to reach a dry spot that they never reached. The Air Force threw political dissidents from their planes and helicopters, without parachutes, and thus more than 30,000 people were officially assassinated by the military dictatorship... But even today, clandestine cemeteries are found, nameless remains, without identification, without family, without anyone... The military dictatorship was a curse in Brazil that brought death, hunger, despair, and delay to society...
such an incredible movie, brilliantly done!
Thanks!
"im still here" is a masterpiece of cinema!
Brazil is still here!! Ditadura nunca mais! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
