    “Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome: A 10-year retrospective review of cases at Norton Children’s Hospital”
    Target Audience
    This activity is targeted toward all general pediatric physicians and pediatric subspecialists in the community.
    Statement of Need
    Pediatric grand rounds provide physicians a continuous update on emerging trends in caring for the pediatric patient, including new scientific discoveries that provide the underpinning of current pediatric practice. This activity will inform physicians about other issues involving professionalism, socioeconomic issues, and topics related to the ACMGE core competencies.
    Objectives
    At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
    1) Discuss the pathophysiology, timeline of events and prognosis of typical hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
    2) Identify how to prevent or decrease dialysis requirements in children who present hemolytic uremic syndrome.
    3) Define the major epidemiological factors, risk and prognostic factors, short and long term complications of children who presented with HUS at our institution in last 10 years.
    4) Discuss what was learned at Norton Children’s Hospital in last 10 years while taking care of children with hemolytic uremic syndrome.
    5) Identity from a general pediatrician’s perspective, what the long-term follow up and monitoring focus on in children with history of hemolytic uremic syndrome should be.
