The 280z is very special to me. My cousin who passed away from LGS had a 1979 z and a Grand National but the z was his favorite. We had a lot of memories cruzin in the z. Thanks for restoring it and looking forward to the final product!

Good job! Learning as you go. I have been a mechanic for quite a few years but I still buy shop manual for any particular car that I am going to do anything to for the information that pertains to that make, model and year. The manuals also will help you know if you need any specialty tools for the project. Good job, looking forward to seeing you doing the next thing.👍👍

The stock intake is actually a cold air intake even though for some reason it sucks air in from the headlight lol. A cone filter will definitely give the engine a more aggressive sound, however.
You’ll have to watch the second video to find out if the air intake changed anything (:

Make sure you put anti seize on the plugs! I’ve broken a couple off before. Not fun!

The 280z is definitely a car id color code the wires just because it would be easier to see what im looking at when doing work.

80s model...did not run on ethanol gas...which is in all grades of gas now since 2008...either use nonethanol ..or use 93+.octane...
The reason why the distributor cap doesn't go 1,2,3,4,5,6 is that the engine has a specific firing order that the distributor has to follow, which in the case of your engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4
And the specific firing order helps in balancing the engine so it runs as smoothly as possible
Haha I am aware. But at the beginning of the process I did not know! The theme of my channel is to follow my learning experience! So there will often be things I do not understand at first but I learn as I go. If you refer to my first video you will understand that I am new to the scene and want to document my progress. Rather than jumping in and pretending I was born with this knowledge like every other enthusiast does. Thanks for sharing!

Why not just take out one by one wire and the order in which you take them out does not matter also you cant get electrocuted if the engine is not cranking

@@SenCityOfficial the idea behind a cold air intake is to get colder air into the engine. You want cold air because cold air has more oxygen, it is dencer than warm air. More air in the engine means you can add more fuel before you ruin your plugs and you can make more power. But adding a pod filter and a run of pipe in your hot engine bay is counter intuitive. You might gain some flow moving away from the factory box but you intake air Temps on average will go up if you don't have some sort of barrier between your new pod filter and the hot engine/engine bay parts. Dose that make sence?
@@SenCityOfficial lean means you have more air than you need, rich means you have more fuel than you need. Those explanations are over simplified but that's the basic idea.
@@sobeh20 EFI L28's run pig rich as it is. The extra airflow will be compensated for by the AFM, and will maintain the AFR to the factory range.
Girl, this is a good project, but don't waste your money. Instead of replacing your wires, troubleshoot them. Nissan plug wires last forever. They really do. Keep the stock air filter. The cold air intake adds nothing to your NA L28 engine. You got 135-145 HP under the bonnet now and if you have a 3.90 in the rear and a 5-spd, you've got all the power and fun that you need. If you're going to spend money replacing stuff, spend it on exhaust and suspension, and you'll have one solid Z.
I’m not keeping the engine that long. So I have no desire to change exhaust. Suspension comes later. Everything on this car hasn’t been touched in 30 years... so I’m replacing. But thanks for your input.
@@SenCityOfficial Hey no probs. As you like. Its your car. These old Z's last forever. They're pretty much bullet proof, except for issues with rust. Their quality is impeccable, especially compared with the crap quality of many modern cars. Enjoy the build!
