@Dominicanbulk Dude 4 hours is nothing. It goes by like that *snaps fingers*. I used to do residencies at clubs and parties and whatnot, it was 5-6 hours minimum. Sven Vath is well known for doing 16 hour sets. to be allowed to DJ for 4 hours is a dream for a DJ. Can really get a groove on. Check out how much more relaxed D looks here after 2.5 hours or so. First couple of hours, man's just warming into it innit :)
For those who don't know, Derrick May was friends with Thomas Barnett, Blake Baxter and Eddie Fowlkes and had them come over to his place to use his equipment and record tracks. Derrick then stole their tracks, including Nude Photo and released them under Rhythm Is Rhythm. The piano section from Strings of Life was performed by Mike James and although he was credited, Derrick May has never paid Mike any royalties. I've seen conversations between Derrick and Mike where Derrick promised to pay Mike and nothing materialised. Chez Damier introduced Mike to Derrick in to 80s and in a later conversation, Derrick promised on their friendship to pay Mike his portian of the royalties. Again, nothing materialised. There's also women coming forward internationally to speak about their negative experiences with Derrick. We're talking about some serious allegations. Derrick's career rode off those tracks, which weren't his. Mike's exposing Derrick and a book is due to go on sale with a full expose. Coincidentally, Mike has started to receive threatening calls and messages.
he spins old, he spins obscure, he spins gospel, he spins detroit chords, he mixes fast, he uses snippets of tracks, stings, bass, soul, funk....he doesn't prepare his sets like the weak. He is the last artist. I told him 10 years ago. Legendary!!!! Nobody can touch his style!
True James. You have said a mouthful. I always say to people they need to enjoy Derrick May, DJ Bone and the likes because I believe DJing will eventually die whether we like it or not. I hope DJing culture does not die but technology, mediocrity and greed are killing this great craft. Anyone can become a DJ due to advances in technology and what's even more shocking is that despite the advances in technology some of these so called great DJ's can't even get it right or DJ properly and some of them get paid way too much money.
I saw him once on Berlin, co-incidentally I was in town for work but made my excuses on the Friday night and headed to the Watergate club. It was amazing. A total artist at work. Nothing else like it

You reflect the true U.S. underground House scene that was HoTT in the early 90's
Correct me if I'm wrong but a great amount of this is techno... right? Just the Detroit style though, which is more soulful/funkier. Defs a lot of House though. But by all means correct me if I'm wrong, however that's what I love about Derrick.. the way he mixes the two genres (among others) together so well. Every track suits the previous so well, can go inbetween house and techno like they're the same thing! My favourite mixer.

This would've been heavenly perfect had it not been for the frustrating 4-minute sound dropout at 1:20. Wish there was a way to stitch that hole shut. Otherwise, I can just put this on and forget about the woes of the world for four hours!
Is THAT what that was? I thought it was machine error! I didn't even know that was a thing you could do with live mixes. What song or songs couldn't be allowed to play in a mix? What a buzzkill for a party! Thank heaven the rest of the mix makes up for it, but it's a shame that hole has to be there.

Derrick likes to play long sets and he is very good personal friend with the local Macedonian promotor. First time the two met was 15.07.2000 when Derrick was booked in Macedonia for the first time in Ohrid, Gradishte. And he keeps coming back regularly because he likes the Macedonian crowd. He even says that in the documentary `Hi-Tec Soul` where he compares the Japanese and Macedonian crowd as being bit different in terms of response and he is right in saying that. Every time Derrick plays in Macedonia it is more than just a party. www.mixcloud.com/mkundergroundmusic/derrick-may-live-from-ohrid-2000-part-1/ www.mixcloud.com/mkundergroundmusic/derrick-may-live-from-ohrid-2000-part-2/ ua-cam.com/video/nMSsGczrSac/v-deo.html
Maybe i'm crazy, but it wouldn't be better to cut from the video the time that youtube, anyway, take the sound off because of copyright?? I think it's very weird that sound goes off 3 times for some minutes. Just saying!!! Anyway, 4 hours of master piece of techno.
After a while, UA-cam releases the copyright claims on the music in the videos, and if I cut the video now, later I will have to do it again, after the copyright release. Maybe better solution is to upload the whole set on some other platform, any suggestions?
Crowd bang into it as always. Honestly it's a shame, DM is dropping some bombs on these people and they remain resolutely unmoved. Wrong venue perhaps? Although I see this a lot watching recent sets. What is it with today's party people, are they all on mogadon or something?
I bet SID would of been a first class choice for this night . But I don't do drugs anymore . Lucky this set makes me feel like I'm tripping anyway . Sweet . Make us a brew love .
i know a record should be wiped so that the needle don't get all dirty from dust and it sounds better, but you shold do it gently and with clean cloth, not with that sweety towels and tshirts and i don't know what . I see Derrick do it all the time also on cds. But i think , he does more harm than good with that. Because when he wipes cd with that sweety towel , laser get dirty from it. So does the needle from a record.... It really hurts me when i see him do it. But don't get me wrong, big respect to the man. I am listening to him for almost 20 years now.
