I think I echo most Cubs fans. Hoerner yes. Steele only for a king's ransom. We are talking 200%+ value. Very few teams can trade for him. They'd have to have a top 50 pitching prospect in all of baseball, another top 100, then 2 more of a teams top 10.

This team is very good - at finding ways to lose. Seiya’s fielding has been bad for quite awhile. Many misjudged balls and as you point out he takes bad routes and lets too many balls fall in front of him. He’s a DH and that’s all.

I hope Hoyer has been watching and goes scorched earth like they did in 2021. This team has quit on the fans and on themselves. You can't have players like that and expect to contend.

If I am not mistaken, I mentioned getting Bobby Witt Jr on locked on Cubs like 2 years back, because I saw how good of a player he was and the Royals were awful at the time. They went and got Swanson, then Cody. Well look at the Cubs have now? Bobby could’ve been cheaper and Jed could’ve kept Nico as a shortstop, got ride of Wisdom, Bote, Mastro, kept Wilson, and added better offensive players. What a different Cubs team this could’ve been. But hey, what the hell do I know?
I agree. They could have signed Freddie Freeman instead of Dansby. Freeman was more money but that dude is a legit MLB star caliber player.
Why does Counsell play the better OF as the DH instead of Suzuki?
The 3B coach is highly questionable.

I'm sick of hearing about how "unlucky" Kyle Hendricks is. He's been toast since the start of the 2021 season.
He had a sub-4 ERA last year after coming back from an injury that could've ended his career. He was awful at the start of the year, but he's been solid since he moved to the bullpen. Is he the pitcher he once was? No. Has he had a lot of had luck lately? yes.
@@EpicChickens1916 Hendricks made his first relief appearance this season on May 23rd. Since that date he has a 4.68 ERA. Since returning to the rotation, his ERA is 5.14. His ERA since the start of 2021 is 4.85. He's allowed over 1.4 HR per 9 innings since the start of 2021.
It's OK to admit Kyle Hendricks is simply bad and not ""unlucky". He's not a family member or a sacred cow. No one's going to take the 2016 trophy away from us.

Good rundown, Setup Man. Hard to watch. 2016 KH has a special place in Cubs' fans hearts, but 2024 KH has to be perfect on every pitch to be effective. That just isn't going to happen very often, or at least not consistently enough to warrant him having a regular spot in the rotation. Fans tend to love PCA because of his speed, but his approach at the plate isn't "big league level". He chases both up and down, which results in weak pop ups to the left side and ground outs to the right side. Let's face it, this team isn't underperforming and they aren't just unlucky. They have an undependable bullpen, substandard hitting at the bottom of the order, no real answer at third base, etc. If there is a root problem, it's in their ability to develop talent at the minor league level to the extent that young players are ready for the "bigs" once they're here. There is no value in "blowing the big league team up" for young talent if you are not going to be able to ready that talent to play successfully at the next level.
I don't understand defensive runs saved. They showed a graphic that PCA leads outfielders with 12. I watch every game and not once have I said " PCA just saved a run with that play"
Very convincing analysis, especially the psychological take on failure to score from 3rd with no outs. But it's not just Hoyer having given up. Nobody really with any spine in this whole organisation

The first step for an outfielder IS ALWAYS BACK!!! That is basic knowledge.
They can always create their own luck by scoring at a clip of over 1.3 RPG coming out of the AS break.

I know Hoyer is bad, but how much can you blame him instead of the team? They have been half effort since late May. Hoyer can’t do anything about the dumb lack of effort from this dead beat cubs team. They should be so much better if they actually cared
The players weren’t good to begin with, that’s the problem.
@@nenecastillo7497 I argue that they were. Hoyer needed to do more work, but Horener, Swanson, Morel, Bellinger, and basically the entire bullpen was completely different from 2023 to 2024

Went to this game and left in the 7th after Swanson hit into the double play. Waste of time and money going to a game to watch this uninspiring Cubs team and there were a lot of Cubs fans there to witness this embarrassment.
Couns4l should have pulled him when he had 1st&3rd it was clear he was done
This team is simply HORRIBLE and COUNCIL is even worse there is absolutely no accountability from anyone in this organization from the OWNERSHIP down to the equipment manager.

I am so sick of hearing how good Suzuki is going to be by the media, its bullshit. He has had three good months in three seasons and he's the worst rightfielder in the MLB. This team has quit and I don't care who they trade, I just don't want to see the majority of these guys back next year. They are a direct reflection of their manager: boring and lifeless.

3 good months in 3 seasons? Every month he had this year except May which he just came back from IL all have WRC+ over 138. And he ranked 13th best WRC+ among all OFs in baseball
