Inherited my 2nd Gen Woodsman from my stepmother. Mine also made 1948. My favorite gun. Still have the box, original instructions and initialed test target from the factory.
I found Triple K magazines work fine with a little smoothing of the stamped feed lips with fine sandpaper. Keeps the wear off the original mag.

About 25 years ago I purchased a 2nd generation Colt Woodsman match target 4.5 inch barrel in excellent condition at a gun show here in Portland Oregon at a great price. Based on the serial number it was manufactured in 1951. The trigger pull is crisp at little less than 3 lbs, but feels much lighter.
Accuracy is excellent and I don't recall it ever having it jam up with even the cheap 22 LR bulk ammo I purchased at Walmart.
The workmanship is superb, and built to last so my great grandchildren and perhaps beyond may have the pleasure to shoot it.

That’s a 2nd series target. The 4.5 inch barrel is the sport. The heavy barrel version is the match target. I’ve got a 1949 Woodsman sport that I like. Thanks.

My Match Target, circa 1952, is a true "nail driver" when I do my part. The only other .22lr target pistol I really depend on for killing bullseyes is a High Standard Supermatic Citation [1968] and the S&W mod.41. Love those target punchers, all!

I don’t have a sw 41 yet but I do have a supermatic citation from 63 & a browning medalist from 62 that do my bullseye bidding

Why someone isn't making a copy to this day is beside me. Slim, ligtweight, accurate.

I own one from 20/30’s, says woodsman on it, what a beautiful gun to handle and shoot, mine drives tack, coming from a bullseye shooter also. Makes my Ruger mark series pistols feel like cheap junk. Also have a nice hi-Standerd from the 50’s same quality feel to it.

The Browning Medalist pistols are extremely accurate handguns but can be somewhat difficult to find the proper ammunition which will preform as needed. My particular Medalist seems to digest with accuracy, the CCI standard velocity. Any of the hyper velocity ammo runs well, but does not deliver top quality, tight groups at 25 yards match target bulls. The Browning Challenger III do not impress me as their quality in manufacture leave me wonder as to quality. Certainly no where close to the original Belgian FN product and accuracy capability.
