      You might thinking that because I am a cook, I am not facing other people. In the kitchen there are food prep, food server, etc. I am cautious with the people surrounds me. Just trying to be safe from this covid. Even we know the person arounds us, we never know if he or she has a covid. Since there are people who are positive in covid that don't have symptoms at all. That is why, even if I am wearing mask, for additional protection, I am using air purifier.

    They are bad if they produce ozon, like smog in the cities. This is measured at lab. Ions in it self has no harm. Then again, it's better to get out for a walk, or a swim in the ocean, playing in the rain, or just simply, get a shower.

    Hi, I hope you can help me since I’m new to air purifiers. I have asthmatic sons and want to buy purifiers. But most of the brands you featured on your channel are not readily available here in our country. We have a popular brand of purifier here and saw this on the description i dunno what this means - “Negative Ion: 20 million pcs/ cm3” they also use uv lamp. do you think its safe to use? Thank you.

    • @HomeAirGuides
      @HomeAirGuides  3 роки тому +3

      Our recommendation is to not get an air purifier that emits negative ions if you have asthma. If the air purifier allows you to turn the feature off, then that is fine. The production of negative ions can cause asthma symptoms to flare in some individuals, that is why it is not recommended. What you want is an air purifier with a True HEPA filter. That filter produces zero byproducts. Try to stay away from ionizers, negative ion generators, and ozone machines.

      @The King I have a pollution meter and it detects no levels of ozone in my rooms from either bipolar or negative ionization.
      I have used actual ozone generators in the past. They obviously do produce ozone and its unmistakable. But the ozone produced by needlepoint ionizers is insignificant. The amount of corona discharge is just too small with most of these ionizers.
      The older Ionic Breeze models which do generate significant ozone through high corona discharge: they have large negatively charged wires and positively charged plates in close proximity, making them electrostatic precipitators, not ionizers.

    • @HomeAirGuides
      @HomeAirGuides  3 роки тому +4

      Some people don't react well to ionizers, like those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Therefore, you can turn it off if that is the case for you. But if you don't have any issues with the ionizer turn on, then we suggest that you leave it turned on. The ionizer will help the internal filters do a better job at collecting particles.

      Leave it turned on all the time and it will take more ultrafine particles out of the air. If it produces harmful levels of ozone, you will be able to smell it. Most don't.

    Bottom line it is known to be a lung irritant. I found out about it after me and my brother got both sick.
    I used it first, one time it fell down it irritated my throat immediately, I didn't want to admit it was caused by the machine so I gave it to my brother, he got sick to. The room he used the machine was very hard to breathe in, the exact opposite of it supposed to do 🙃.

      We can't comment on the type of ions produced by LED Tvs, lights, etc. That's not our area of expertise.

    Do all ionizers produce Ozone? I found one that looks reasonable. Does not claim to produce Ozone. Is is not safe. No Oz ratting for it.

      The best thing for you to do is contact the manufacture and ask. It may produce ozone at a very little amount.

    I won't be buying any brand other than Sharp with their Plasmacluster technology. Does not produce ozone as a byproduct. Plus, it's not a negative ionizer, it emits both negative and positive ions which is better than negative ionizers only.

      Its not good i use the sharp plasmacluster too but it makes me sick my asma got worsen and mostly difficult to breathe but if i turned off the plasmacluster i don't feel that anymore
      Postive ions are obviously dangerous for lungs because its charged ions

    I have a very nice air purifier from Costco that has always worked very well and has a UV-C button and a button that says ION on it and think thats to negative ion generator i believe. Last night was a fearful night, i thought i heard a static or continuously sparking noise or something and never noticed that before and am wondering if i should be worried or just ignore it? I am fearful that it could mean that something inside the unit could be making ozone. The other thing nowdays is more things either come from China or are made in China and after everything China has done its nowdays hard to fully know what to believe and what to trust anymore including everyones everyday health and safety. Sometimes you get lucky when buying a product that looks very nice and so fancy and that did not come from China and not made in China but usually nowdays its very hard to fully avoid it. I am not saying that everything that is made or comes from China is bad but nowdays it is extremely hard to fully trust anything from China anymore and you never know for sure.

    From experience. Never buy one. If you have asthma, it's a no no. Ionizers can help, but in small amounts in a short period of time. If they have the option to be turned on or off and use HEPA, that's your best bet. But sadly, these tests are done in a lab with outdated tests. Never tested in real homes in the worst or most polluted areas in the world for long periods of time.
