I used to travel all over north America because o my job. Been to most states in this great country and Kentucky was one of my favorites. The landscape and the good people there made it that way. Saddens me so much to see this happen to you fine folks and you are in my prayers every day.
Same. They love ❤
Thank you.
@Jay Yoyo Tons. KFC for one, and I’m not talking about just the restaurant chain, but it will do in a pinch. The Kentucky Hot Brown is another. Bourbon whiskey, of course! Poke salad. Bourbon ball candy. Soupbeans & Cornbread. 😋 (I cook my soup beans with a good size piece of fatback or a big ham bone. The flavor is so good.) Derby Pie. Beer Cheese. Also spoon bread. There is BBQ mutton, Burgoo and also Red Eye Gravy. Leftover cornbread in milk. Sorghum. Fried hand pies. We are also the home of Ale-8-One …a delicious ginger and citrus ale soda that has been made & sold here for over 100 years. We have the pizza rolls everywhere too. A store not too far from me makes 3 different kinds of pizza rolls….pepperoni, meatball, and supreme.
Thank you for documenting. It's so hard to see the devastation! The people need so much help!
Most of the coverage has been around towns and that is completely understandable, but this flood affected so many people that live off the main roads.
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving Exactly!
Neighbor, we drove down yesterday from about 30 miles north. We stopped thru Jackson. Tried to help w what we could. Lost creek and 15 was bad and then went to troublesome creek Some of these areas are completely wiped out. Water is still off so cleaning up is tough in some od these hard hit spots. We just gave out water snacks an offered what we could. Gonna try and make a trip down a week to try an help. Thanks for your posts Todd. Hang in there guys
Thank you so much. Every charitable contribution means so much to these folks.
Thank you for updates. My heart is so broken seeing the devastating destruction of people’s homes, vehicles and lives spread all along the way. I love the people of Kentucky. My husbands family is from there.
It is a sad time.
You may be discouraged and disheartened because you'll like to do much more, but every little thing one does is not untoiced by our Heavenly Father. Thanks for caring. Prayers and support to you all!
Thank you.
Hey Todd, going to take a long time to get back to normal, great video man, you guy's stay safe...
Take care neighbor.
I was watching this. Not really sad but a one big tear just started rolling my down my face. I seen the makeshift stretcher and that reminded me of my EMT days. Just lots of damage and total annilation in Eastern Kentucky. We are thinking of you all down here in Western Kentucky. Praying for strength and courage.
Thank you.
At 11:09 of the video it shows the concrete ramp leading up to the store and post office to old Harvey's Grocery there in Hardshell up 476. That was my grandfather and grandmothers place. I grew up therein the store-house and by father helped build that place with them. It breaks my heart to see it in this video like this as I have been searching for 5 days to try to find something or reach someone that could tell me if my two aunts that still live there survived or not. I fear the worst now seeing nothing left but the ramp up to the porch and the building gone from the foundation.
That is so sad. I do hope your receive welcomed news on your aunts whereabouts.
I remember that store. I was trying to remember your grandfather's name because I had talked to him on several occasions. I lived up the holler behind the old Caney School for ten years..
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving Hey Todd my Grandfather's name was Wiley as is mine and my grandmother was Georgia Josephine. You likely remember my two uncles as well Donald and Randal. Randal was in a wheelchair his whole life as he contracted polio at three.
My since past father also helped build that store/post office/restaurant along with a host of other fine mine from the lost creek community. My aunts Nora and Becky were still living in the blue house across the road from the store and they too lost everything in this flood last week.
@@WileysShenanigans any report if ur aunts are ok? Prayers for you all

Thank you.
Wow, Mother Nature can be wicked for sure! Thanks for sharing Todd..........take care
She put a whoopin' on us. Take care.
Yea man. Probably passed you on 476 yesterday. Carnage. I dont even know where these people begin. They need physical labor Hands to clean strong backs to move stuff. Heavy equipment Unreal out there. Really really tough. You did better capturing some of it in your videos than i did. Hopefully people are gonna step up. Im making time to come back each week as i can bro
We may have. It's just a sad time.
The State of Kentucky Legislators and FEMA need to bring in some tiny homes or FEMA trailers especially for those with health issues or small children. They could set up a small community with wifi, cell service and portable utilities. You need access to the internet or phone service to even start the FEMA process.
Thank you for your channel and sharing you and your wife's personal journey. Stay safe and God bless.
Seems like there dragging there feet. We pay out the ass for our tax dollars for Ukraine but they can’t help us.
Fema is on its way...friend of mine got deployed and flying in to Kentucky in a few hours.
@@susanmoriarty9900 I sure hope so. The people need help. They not going to get on TV and do all that crying like other states do. This is Kentucky pride. They'll help themselves before they ever do that. I know that much.
Thank you.

In all your traveling have you been able to find any lost animals ? Do you have food for animals also your handing out ? My prayers are with all these folks I know what flash flooding can do to one’s life and this just brings back memories that I have blocked out . God Bless you all
Nobody's talking about the animals. I'm sure some people are mourning their pets & livestock?!
Yes. We handed out dog food.
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving ty God Bless you folks ,I know what you are seeing and hearing is hard on you , I was on the VFD squad in 1998 and the nightmares that I still have from our flooding . I just keep praying that you don’t have a replay of it , we are facing the same yet again if it does rain for these 7 days , I was out today in1/2 hour our small creeks was swollen but I hurried home to be with my animals, Thank God it isn’t happening as they said , May God be with you folks in your travels
I’m from Morgan county Kentucky and we got some heavy rain but nothing like this.. my prayers go out to you all…god bless you 🙏
Thank you neighbor.
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving not a problem brother…be safe out there…
Thanks for sharing Todd.
Take care Jim.
Bless you brother for what you're doing. Is there a place we can donate to that you're aware of??
Thanks my friend. I haven't had time to post any links. If you can donate, find one that you trust and go with that. Thanks again.
Kentucky governor website has the link.
@@luv2luv720 thank you
I don't know what to say except that I am heartbroken. Are there enough prayers??
I feel the same way. I'm just grateful to everyone who has tried to help.
Thank you.
You're welcome. It was tough to film this, but there needs to be a record of this destruction.
Does anyone know if Loretta Lynn's old childhood home in Butcher Hollow get damaged with the flood ? That's like 2 or 3 mile a skip and hop from Van Lear and close to near Garrett tooo ...
Todd heard anything about Mayking KY my family lived up Kram Creek iam retired and live in Chicago now last time I was down there was 2016
I'm sorry, but I don't know if that area got flooded or not.
I Hope People Send Homes
I wish someone would do an update as to the progress of the cleanup. (10/2/22 request)
I would like to, but I've been busy helping various flood victims with rebuilding and estimates. I'll try to do an update soon.
any update on the status of many washed out septic tanks, cess pools and leach fields?
that SH!T went EVERYWHERE mixed in with the water that also went everywhere into the places and stuff that are still wet . .
it's a toxic health emergency, on top of all else,
ask the governor about how that's addressed . . .
In some places, you could smell it in the water. It's definitely a health hazard.
Is David and Martin areas okay ?? Or much damage there ..think their in Floyd County ..if I'm right ..or could be Knott County??
I think David is okay. I'm not sure about Martin.
I am working on getting Todd and neighbors help and I pray 🙏 it doesn't go wrong because the state of TENNESSEE DOES CARE ABOUT THEIR NEIGHBORS ***** AMEN!!!
They need people searching that place I don't understand why no one has been back in there
A lot of these places have already been searched.
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving I sure hope they don't find another person that's passed away
@@joshbrown5938 3 are waiting to be named. I'm not sure if they were already included in the 37 total.
Just wanted to let you know that the bridge with the car over it, you were in Perry County. Not Knott
Okay. Thank you.
Due to the flooding, the landscape of our childhood homes have forever been changed. Please drive slower. for those of us have moved away, it's very difficult to recognize where you're filming...It's difficult to recognize the homes in our community's that we used to know so well...so many of us want to go home but it's difficult due to illness, disability, etc...Please be mind of us that miss home and can't be there...Thank You for the video's.
You're welcome.
Does anyone have any film of Crafts Colly in Isom/Neon?
I seen Floyd county got it awful as well as perry county. Praying for yen’s
Thank you neighbor.
It so crazy at how deep the flood got
I know. It's hard to believe.
Praying 👏 In JESUS name for ya'll there too those floods ..I know it's gonna take lot of time to clean everything up and rebuild and get back to like it was there ..so much destruction done all through those back mountain hollar areas ... but it'll get better once everyone works together and I know Kentucky folks are strong and help one another and relief funds and help kicks in and all of the foundations bringing in supplies and help to make things get back good again ....
Thank you!
Just unreal ‼️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
So much devastation. It's hard to wrap your mind around what you're seeing even on video.
Definitely.
At the beginning of video you where in breathett co
I know. I live in Breathitt.
I grew up on 476, the old Hwy 15, I don't recognize anything you've filmed...
I lived on 476 for ten years and this flood changed it a lot.
So sad💔
It is. I am a 58 year old man who has seen a lot. I cried when I was driving home after delivering what we could to these folks and seeing the despair in their eyes.
@@ToddWittenmyerBackwoodsLiving Im so sorry that your community was destroyed💔
Wish I could help
Thank you.
Where's the national guard?
They were active nearly everywhere I was.
Where is all the help for these people? Where are the cleanup crews, electric companies, etc.....
Why is it that because these people live in rural areas or hollars that they are left to deal with all of this alone. You better believe if this were Louisville, the Federal Government would have sent in the Calvary.
There were a lot of crews out working. I didn't film as much activity as I could have because we were out helping as well.
It's all gone .the rest of the country carries on.we don't need Yankee help we will go on.
We need all the help we can get and more.
The eeriest part of beginning of your video, and I noticed in other videos, the silence in the background. No birds, no squirrels, no chipmunks, no frogs, no crickets. No animal sounds. Dead silence.
You're right.
OM GOD
I know.
Stop what you're doing please stop gather what you can to donate and take it to these people do not wait for the government to assist
We're doing what we can.
You say you want to help but all I see is you filming all their misery. You didn't stop once to see if anyone home & needed help. SHAME ON YOU.✝️🙏👑❤️
Glad you spoke up.
You are wrong. Me and two friends of mine have been going door to door and dropping off water, food, cleaning supplies and anything that we can give. I filmed along the way.
I’d like to know how you or anyone else expects to spread awareness of what a humanitarian crisis this event is without some kinda of photo or video documentation. The only things Todd, myself, and one other friend have done for the past three days has been to help people move furniture and deliver food and supplies to areas where there’s not much outreach by volunteer groups. My fathers house got wrecked by feet of flood water and Todd spent the day helping him load and unload two truck and trailer loads of items. He’s a fine human being and a model citizen.Shame on you for saying that to such a great person who’s done nothing but help the community throughout this tragedy.
@@quicksandoutdoors6538 Many people do not understand life beyond the blue screen. You do, tho. Thank you guys for everything you have done today, yesterday and prior.
Make sure you take time to pick up some Duracell batteries at the pickup points. Let me know if you need locations.
Edited typo LOL 🙈
@Jane Simmons @Carolyn Bell Todd isn't bragging about his good deeds. However, do tell us how each or either of you have contributed to the Eastern Kentucky flood crisis or any life other than your own. We all want to be inspired. Please, know it is insulting to the person you wanted to be when you place shame while referencing all which is holy. Let us know when you arrive to volunteer. You will be loved on! 🤗
Edited to correct typo
Mother nature can be a bitch at times.
