If he had been installing a Lexus OEM cabin filter in the video then yes, the filter should be installed with the arrow on the filter pointing up. However, he’s clearly using an after-market filter as the arrow on the filter has “air flow” written beside it. Therefore he installed the filter upside-down in the video as the arrow should be pointing downward, as that’s the direction of the air flow. Other than that, the video is helpful in that it clearly shows the location of the cabin filter, how to get to it, and how to replace it.

The "up" arrows on the Lexus parts and the OEM filter do NOT indicate air flow direction. They merely indicate which side goes up. It doesn't say "air flow" next to those arrows. It just says "up".
All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter will have downward air flow direction including Lexus and Toyotas. Air is drawn downward through the filter and into the center of the blower and then blown out the side into the duct work. So if the brand filter you buy says "up" next to the arrows then the arrows point up but most aftermarket cabin filters will have arrows that indicate air flow and should point down.
Think about it, if dirty unfiltered air came in from the bottom then any dirt would be trapped inside the blower and under the filter.
Also your HVAC system is designed to either recirculate the air inside the cabin or it can also use incoming fresh air. How would fresh air come in from the bottom? It comes in an intake vent under your hood and at the base of the windshield. Open your hood and have a look.

Actually, i was confused about that one because i know that the airflow has always been downward and i don't know why manufacture would have an arrow there. Well i messed up this one lol. Thanks for correcting. Cheerz

A lot of folks make the same mistake including mechanics.

Lexus did that in purpose. So stupid. They could’ve said airflow arrow and that’s it but they decided to confuse us so we can just go to the dealership and have it change with their very expensive filter and labor.

@@mike60169very expensive is no joke. $75 for a freakin’ OEM filter???? Never again.
*edit….and that’s just the part. Going to do the labor myself.

The arrow on the filter or air flow indicator points down. You installed the filter upside down.
