Anyone wanting to do this should also research what kind of squash and beans grow best and also look at the TIMING of planting. (Corn first then beans when corn is about knee high and the squash after the beans have sprouted and are climbing) Also a fourth sister is optional (sunflowers or another tall flowering yet edible plants like amaranth) which attract pollinators and distract birds from eating up the original 3 sisters) whatevers left from the 4th circle u can also harvest and eat but their main function is to distract crows lol. This technique has been used by my fam in mexico for generations. Theyre mostly ranchers but its good to grow our own veggies.
Thank you. I was thinking of adding this to my garden next year. I saw this a long time ago on a PBS channel and was interested on how to grow these plants together.
The 3 sisters also provide all nutrients for a human to live. The most important reason to grow. Learned that info while touring the Etowah Indian Mounds.
@@lucykelly7152 You get free nitrogen by spreading diluted human urine in your property. Do not over stress the importance of nitrogen. Whatever is prolific should be planted. That means TREES always have priorities, if they don't block all sunlight, that is.
Sure it contains urea, but that takes time to break down into a bioavailable nutrient. Pee also has salts in it that will kill plants if not diluted or applied to regularly.

I tried it and it was impossible to harvest around those stupid squash. You guys aren’t showing how it was originally done I’m sure! Maybe they had different varieties that you don’t know about. I couldn’t find the beans in the corn and also they didn’t do too well. I don’t want to hear from someone who doesn’t have a clue!!!
@@plantvibrations …OK, maybe the apology is mine! I live in the high desert of New Mexico. I dug a deep hole and put the three seeds in at the same time. I have researched this method and other Early American planting methods. I did it in the spring and the corn grew fine, the beans didn’t ever climb up the corn and the zucchini was out of control. I have ways now of controlling the worms that took my corn and I know now that you can control the zucchini bye just cutting off the excess leaves… I just don’t know how to grow the beans. My soil might not be what they need. Sorry for the ugly comment. Please forgive me….

Thank the Native Americans who by observation, intelligent thought and understanding, gave us this amazing system. God is good. Genesis 2:15

I've never heard of this method! I love this return to Native American practices, a culture which truly listens to the earth.🌿

thank you for sharing your experience and expertise!!
Should I plant the fourth sister around the three sisters? or all of them be planted mixed together on the garden bed.
@@sarayasanchez839 I guess when and with the corn.
i’m so excited to try this method that i learned about in braiding sweetgrass! thank you for the explanation of when to plant what!
Happy gardening!
Thank you so much for the clear, detailed explanation of this very important topic!
I hope you have a chance to grow one!
Great acknowledgement of a cultural tradition.👍
I'm excited! I just got my three sisters and I'm going to plant 🤗
yayyy!! excited for you
Great explanation!
Thanks for watching!

Wonderful Three Sisters Planting Method. I learned something new today!
Great video. Very informative 😊
Glad it was helpful!

love hearing that!
Native Americans are quarantined in the universe
👍
Could i substitute the squash with like cucumber? Im allergic to squashes.
Could be worth trying. You’d just need to start the cukes pretty late which may be tricky
@@plantvibrations any suggestions of something else?
Potatoes maybe?
Interesting but are there any other combination for different seasons?
Great question, I’ll do some research
How can you harvest the corn if the beans are wrapped around the stalks and ears without damaging them both?
the beans will be harvested first, cutting the stems and unraveling them
Won't the squash also climb up the corn and maybe kill the corn?
I don’t think it will damage the corn
hello fellow enlightened soul
🙏🙏🙏
I have a hundred sister system, meaning I interplant everything. I plant vegetables right underneath trees and shrubs too. LOL
Ohhhh snap!! I bet you create quite the bounty of produce
I think it would be a good idea to plants legumes everywhere. Why not, if plants want nitrogen?

Lots of assumptions in your comment! God is everything, Mother Nature is a manifestation of God
If you love plants so much why do you eat them?
Yep!

Contact an Indian org. They could probably tell you.
