  • Our hike to Cascade Pass and Sahale Glacier was one of those experiences you'll never forget. We were fortunate enough to hike it with family, including Cupcake's sister, Amanda, her husband, Jonathan, and their son, Kamerun. We did the hike in early July, but it was still chilly and the snow and ice on the way to Cascade Pass certainly presented a challenge.
The hike to Cascade Pass and Sahale Glacier is about 11 miles round trip (from the trailhead) and you'll gain nearly 4,000 feet in elevation. Plus, there are over 30 switchbacks in the first 2.7 miles of the hike before the trail straightens out until you reach Cascade Pass. As you start the trail you'll feel like you've been absorbed into the mountainside, with evergreens blanketing the slopes. The trail is easy to follow and the views are incredible (when you catch glimpses of the mountains through the trees).
Just before you reach Cascade Pass the trail goes over a mass of rocks on the mountainside. This was made especially challenging as there was still a good amount of packed ice and snow on part of the trail. Once past that, you reach Cascade Pass and then it's on to the amazing views along the Sahale Arm Trail. Kamerun thoroughly enjoyed the hike and you can certainly see it in his reaction when reaching the glacier.
