Sugar was utterly amazing. In the early 1970s we would come back in the summer every year or every other year and I'd stand by the main pool. After about 1/2 an hour, Sugar stopped what she was doing as if she was startled, then turn around, look at me and bolt over to where I was standing. Then she'd click like crazy and motion with her head over and over. Every year, it was the same routine. After the first day, sometimes when we'd walk up if she saw me, she'd zip on over and click for a little while and then I'd just watch her. Nothing else for me except standing by the pool or playing mini golf. She was a pretty amazing animal, who certainly was a thinking creature who knew what was going on around her that's for sure. It was nice to know you Sugar. As a kid, you certainly changed my life. Thank you.
This brings back very "GOOD" memories of days gone by, I worked for this wonderful family in the 70's in the kitchen, some terrific times, and felt like family, I was young and just starting out, this was my suffragette family, and will never forget them all, that was 34 yrs ago, thanks for a Blast from the past, Nothing but good memories of the whole place. Those were the days, Thanks Sugar, Dolly, & all who posted -Donna Montoro James
Brings back memories when this place was in it's prime. My grandfather managed the place back in the 50's and 60's. I was 4 or 5 years old and had the great opportunity to take part in the dolphin show and also swim with Sugar and Loafer in the off times. Wish I realized how cool that was back then. It seemed like normal stuff, just something else I did.
I had lunch at the restaurant and noticed the dolphin in the cove. (several years ago). I walked over to the dolphin and we looked at each other. I had no idea how or why the dolphin was there. It was one of the most magical encounters of my life. I could sense the intelligence behind those eyes. One eye did not work and the dolphin swam sideways. I am so sorry to hear that Sugar has gone to the great play area in the sky. Thank you Sugar for that magical afternoon.
I remember working the morning shift in the restaurant and we would break up the left over bisquets and sprinkle them to the fish in the lagoon. Sugar would swim up and crunch them up. I started making her wave, etc and she would. They made me stop! I loved that dophin!

great memories of fun times. sunday breakfasts with sugar
Sometimes late at night, you can hear her clicking, waiting in the dark to exact her revenge on rowdy tourists. To love sugar is to respect her power.

I used to work the morning shift too! Do we know each other?
Things seem to be spoken in the past tense in this video. Do you no longer have her? I think about her often and wonder if she's still at the Lodge.
Sugar passed away in 1997 at the age of 45.
Why d I remember " Kiwi"?
